   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

   Jan-06-19 Anand vs J Fedorowicz, 1990 (replies)

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <al wazir> - It's not easy to go back through past Holiday Present Hunts and discover useful information. Very few people have played regularly over the years -- even the players who are acknowledged as best, <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <MostlyAverageJoe> have now ...

Domdaniel: Wesley is a man of his word. Once again, I am impressed by his willingness to stick to commitments.

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

But that's over now eh?

Jun-10-07  whiteshark: <JFQ> You bought your <last boyfriend> in a <used bookstore> ?? Lowered exspectations, young lady, heheh?

Domdaniel: <Jess> I'm envious. I live in an actual city -- and one which seemingly used to pride itself on its book trade, new, used and otherwise -- and there are no chess books anywhere. Apart from maybe one token copy of 'Chess for Retards'.

In living memory -- even when I moved here ten years ago -- the bookstores used to have chess sections. But the best shops have closed down, and the others fill their 'games' sections with poker. An awful lot of poker.

What's this about a *last* boyfriend? I trust you mean 'most recent' rather than 'terminal'. Wouldn't want you turning into a <chess nun> or anything, would we?

<Whatever you find in books, leave it there.>

The testing was necessary, btw. A major deletion took place. Sharky knows, but he's under instructions to dive deep and eat anyone who approaches.

Domdaniel: The CG game of the day, meanwhile, is the superb Hjartarson vs J Nogueiras, 1988.

A French Winawer Poisoned Pawn, no less. A superb Black win. And in "What would Jesus do?" perhaps the best title since the praxis began.

And they accuse *me* of blasphemy?

"I should have shot him in the back -- that's what Jesus would have done." - John Cale

Jun-11-07  cheski: This is a very confusing forum:
<tidbits>?
There was me all these years thinking it was <titbits> Wrong newspaper obviously.
Choice morsels wearing a titfer?

And then the new books, old books and a third category, which I can't quite envisage.

All way over my head.

Domdaniel: <cheski> Titfer, over your head, heh heh, very good. You should prosper here. Welcome aboard.

Domdaniel: <Jess> -- <(she said for the 400th time even though she keeps typing <the dog's nuts> over and over.)>

But the dog *is* nuts.

Surely They can't nail you for speaking the truth? Gotta go now, there are some fairies at the bottom of the garden...

Domdaniel: <ragh> I forgot this point, re the scandal before last: if you really *did* work out the connection from stylistic traits and first principles, well done.

And if you already knew about <offield>, then you're a cheatin', lyin' rabble-rouser. Either way, we could do with more of your sort around here.

Jun-11-07  whiteshark: <Ragh>, I noticed that you like <prime numbers> in some way. Maybe you like <magic squares>, too ??

Here is a simple 3x3 one, consisting of nine consecutive <!> prime numbers:

1 rank: <1480028201 <1480028129 <1480028183>>>

2 rank: <1480028153 <1480028171 <1480028189>>>

3 rank: <1480028159 <1480028213 <1480028141>>>

I'am still trying to understand the magic of these numbers. As I usually try to avoid numbers bigger than 10 it will take some time....

jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> I read every post that comes in here, what scandal happened after the last one? None of mine were deleted.

Would you consider emailing me with the details? I need to know. Well I'm nosy.

No chessbooks in Ireland? Good gravy.

Can you take "the tube" to Londinium?
There's bound to be some there, but I heard they make you pay a toll now to enter the City Walls.

re: <The Dernier Metro-Boyfriend>.

No point starting up now when I'll doubtless be marrying the Leader of <North Korea> sometime next year.

If you look in mirror at midnight and repeat the Magic Square numbers three times, the Government will send you <Cheese and French Wine>.

It's a fact!

Jun-11-07  Ragh: <Dom> My *starting* point of investigation was when I stumbled upon your home-made word of icosatriophile (google the word and see yourself).

Since I don't have access to search kibitzing feature (of which Eyal is an expert at), I didn't come across your previous references/admittances on this site of having a sockpuppet. So, you can fairly assume that I am no less than Sherlock in this regard ;) Back to kibitzing on the holy site after a weekend break..

jessicafischerqueen: Hey <Ragh>!! Brilliant work. As you know, <Hitman> and <Eyal> supplied the hard evidence, and <Dom> had to confess, even without torture!

What conspiracy will you investigate next?

  jessicafischerqueen: <Ragh> Hey! My forum's a <holy site> too, as in:

"Holy crap, this forum is an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!!"

Jun-11-07  Ragh: <What conspiracy will you investigate next?> J, How about the <scandal before last> that Dom mentioned.
Jun-11-07  WBP: <Dom> Good day, sir. Caught you kibitzing this morning at that dreadful game (Don't know what happened to Kamsky in this match; maybe he should consume a dozen double-espressos prior to his next game, so as not to spend an hour and a half on the first ten moves).

Howdy <Jess>. Great to hear of your book acquisitons, and also nice knowing there are still little bookstores 70km into remote Sasquatch territory that cater to the hiker/Sasquatch hunter/chess player food groups.

<Cheski> Have a better idea of this forum since your last post? I'm still trying to figure it out myself!

Domdaniel: The juxtaposition of <What Would Jesus Do?> and <They can't nail you for speaking the truth> was, believe it or not, an accident. But a strangely redemptive one...

<I don't even know the name
And, if I did, well really, what's it to ya?
There's a blaze of light in every word
It doesn't matter which you heard...>

Hallelujah.

Jun-11-07  Ragh: Or, even better, the latest scandal after the <scandal before last>.

jessicafischerqueen: WOB: I see you have been enjoying the games!! So how exactly do you get permission from the "trouble and strife" to get up at 5 in the morning to watch Chess for six hours???

Is your school work finished yet?

Will you be going on vactation?

Best,
JOB

Jun-11-07  WBP: <The juxtaposition of <What Would Jesus Do?> and <They can't nail you for speaking the truth> was, believe it or not, an accident> Jesus walks into a Bed and Breakfast. He tosses three nails on the front desk and asks, "can you put me up for the night?"
