| Jan-29-08 | | achieve: <Dom> We'll have to consult Jess about Short's appeal (funny word), but, in shorts, I reckon Hort, appeal-wise, is MORE than a capital "S" short of Short's... |
|
| Jan-29-08 | | achieve: 300 pages coming up...
NO mercy!!
You were right when you said: "Jess, meet you at 400" |
|
Jan-29-08
 | | Open Defence: actually 290 of those would be jess' kibitzes I bet |
|
| Jan-29-08 | | achieve: Yeah, but <dom> will remain "cool" under the circumstances... Only a very few can get behind the front. That's why we have met Frogspawn in all its different layers... (Whoooooo....)

Jan-29-08
 | | Domdaniel: <Layers> Layers, layers, layers. I'm *sure* that's a pun. I am the Eggman? Or, as the world's worst joke (official) goes:
Q. What's a Hindu?
A. Lays iggs. |
|
| Jan-29-08 | | WBP: <Dom> I'm a lay person on the subject of telephone books, but that shouldn't matter, given that the experts on the subject whom I've encountered (intentionally or otherwise)are otherwise despicable human beings. (Sorry to repeat "otherwise"--a dreadful stylistic gaffe.) But my question would be, if I ever possessed the momentary courage to pose it: if carrots are so good for your eyes, how come I see so many dead rabbits beside the highway? |
|
| Jan-29-08 | | achieve: Layers.. forget layers.
Facets is better... Facets.
Btw Jess has kibitzed over 60 pages in here... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: <Niels> accounts for 16 pages of <Frogspawn> <Deffi> accounts for 11. Who the actual "accountant" is, however, I couldnt' say. We can only hope it's not <Jake "Greasy Thumbs" Gidzik>... BTW that is a real historical accountant-- maybe the most famous in history. OR, rather, he was the accountant for a guy who is as well known in America as <Jesus> (IE 100% of Americans will know about him). 100 Burritos to whoever tells me who's personal accountant was <Greasy Thumbs>... NO GOOGLING OR BOOKS. memory only. and wild guesses are encouraged. Mrs. Smoot

|
| Jan-30-08 | | Boomie: <JessieKim: 100 Burritos to whoever tells me who's personal accountant was <Greasy Thumbs>...> Burritos...mmmmm. My vote for Al Capone who clearly was snubbed in the Coolie Man contest. |
|
| Jan-30-08 | | Boomie: <Dominator: show me a belief system that *isn’t* bizarre> I'd be an atheist but my belief system isn't strong enough. |
|
| Jan-30-08 | | achieve: I liked this one:
Q. Why do bagpipers walk when they play?
A. They're trying to get away from the noise.

Jan-30-08
 | | Open Defence: <Who the actual "accountant" is, however, I couldnt' say.> that would be Moi ... geez I said it ... I AM an Accountant.. the worst type of accountant is the Chess playing Accountant, imagine we actually take a break from Balance Sheets and Cash Flows to play Chess... whooohooo! there is a Corresspondence Chess Tournament that would take 1/2 a year to complete! that's almost exciting at the 75 basis point rate cut announced by the Fed.. Yes Sireee! we are the life of the party!!!! |
|
Jan-30-08
 | | Domdaniel: <Boomie> -- <I'd be an atheist but my belief system isn't strong enough> Mine is, thank God.
However, your belief system passes the Bizarro test. I'm still waiting for one that doesn't. PS. I also believe in the fairies in Richard Dawkins' garden, though I'm an Afairyist on most matters. |

 | | Domdaniel: <Deffi> Can you do accountancy or even arithmetic by correspondence too? - Three.
- Uhm. Decimal point.
- Eight!!
*months pass*
- Ah, Zero? |

 | | Domdaniel: <Frog History>
"One of the forms of moral suasion by which Pharaoh was besought to favour the Israelites was a plague of frogs, but Pharaoh, who liked them fricasees, remarked, with truly oriental stoicism, that he could stand it as long as the frogs and the Jews could..." - Ambrose Bierce
(But did Pharaoh know about their chessplaying ability, is the question ...) |
|
| Jan-30-08 | | Red October: <Can you do accountancy or even arithmetic by correspondence too?> unfortunately yes..... but one rule of thumb... move the thumb out of the way when hammering a nail... no that's not it.. yes.. anything divided by 0 is infinity .... so infinity multiplied by 0 can be anything you want... also known as the Genie Postulate |

Jan-30-08
 | | Domdaniel: <Bill> Hmm ... phone book *experts* I'm not so sure about. But, like chess databases, phone books perform an invaluable service for literature by acting as a source of odd names. I know that for instance JG Ballard wrote 'The Generations of America' with the help of a Los Angeles directory. Which is why it takes the form "And Sirhan Sirhan shot Robert F Kennedy. And Robert F Kennedy shot Ethel Merman. And Ethel Merman shot William P. Zanzinger ..." and so on for some pages, in the style of biblical begats. It's all virtual now, of course. A telephone book is like a computer scroll. Hang on, my computer *does* scroll ... |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | achieve: <Dom> I found this little gem of a bio... < I´m from Brazil and I play at ... I´m young, but I guess I have knowledge about a lot of things relationated with chess. I can always talk to everybody, and my favorite chess players are Tartakower, Steinitz and Pillsbury. Sorry about my bad English. I want to make friends here, and talk a lot about... chess, of course! Send me an e-mail! Let´s be friends! > "relationated" & "I can always talk to everybody" - (I love it!) Does it get any better than this? Caissar Nominee for best Profile, dacht ik. |
|
Jan-31-08
 | | Domdaniel: <Niels> Yep, that's nice ... I've a nagging feeling I saw it before, but can't remember where. Must be Larry Alzheimer coming to stay. As Ronald Reagan said, "Things sure have changed since old Larry Alzheimer moved in ..." Speaking of movie stars, maybe there should be a separate section for 'short' profiles, distinct from feature-profile makers ... like us. |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | achieve: <Dom> Now You're over-reacting... I don't even know at which gamepage I saw the boy's commentary an hour or so ago... *YIKES*
You're right! It's sinking in now... Maybe Heimers are conspiring... I DEMAND that Jerry Bruckheimer will "send someone over" to have the chip that he put in my head last night, removed. heh - while we're going nuts at least we can talk to eachother... (I will check the nick of that kibitzer in a moment - he hasn't posted in 5 years I believe, so your memory is OK) |
|
Jan-31-08
 | | Domdaniel: <Niels> Thanks, but. Something horrible has also happened to my ability to play chess ... I've started losing to all kinds of people ... my rating is being broken up for scrap and the bits handed out to anyone who wants a chunk. And I'm due to play in two more club matches this weekend. Argh. |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | achieve: User: Danilomagalhaes He has this adoring rant at this gamepage -- S Volkov vs V Nevostrujev, 2002 in which he stresses the importance of endgame study and at the end gets bored of himself -- in a sort of Jessican way... It may not help your chess but it's a fun read.
Are you sure it wasn't because you were so sick before the previous tourny that you said you were having soup for the first time, a day before it started? Anyhoo, Jess told me a while back that she hates chessplayers whining after losses, so maybe she'll have a word with you (which is not too bad a prospect, normally) |
|
| Jan-31-08 | | achieve: <Dom> For the record, I'm not saying you're whining btw... on the contrary, I think it is tough to see your age climbing and your rating going the other way, but I think you can still play as you used to, because you can not have de-learned regarding Insight... but you can be dealing with loss of confidence for all sorts of reasons.... S. Hendry is 39 and 7 times W champ, but he can't win a freaking game in a ranking tournament anymore, let alone a tournament... I wouldn't worry about it if I were you... although it is tough-- I HATE losing, too... Maybe that attitude can provide some energy. |
|
Jan-31-08
 | | Domdaniel: <Niels> Yes, no whining. Verboten. Taboo. Even worse is *whining in advance*. I just had a temporary (5-minute) relapse but I've got my confidence back now. I played through Unzicker vs Larsen [excuse absence of link] and decided to (a) add it to my 'Spirit of Saint Nimzo' collection, and (b) try to play like that. |
|
Jan-31-08
 | | Domdaniel: <Niels> Yep, a definite find. I guess you saw the post about "a duvidous move" as well. Not that I can write so well in Portuguese, mind you. Six years ago! Bog almighty, he's probably a grandmaster by now, or prime minister, or something. |
