Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Thank you for proving it with Marco.

Oct-15-12  mckmac: Goodmorning Pepper Hill, Tasmania!!

Oct-15-12  mckmac: ...and that dedication was for Susan Of Herne Bay from her paper-boy, Alf. Thank you Alf, you're here with Marco and it's high time the Reverend Al Green sang a few words.

Oct-15-12  mckmac: ...you're back with Station Radio, and thank you, for once again, proving it with Marco.

Oct-16-12  mckmac: ...Gidday pals and princesses, my name is Betty and I'm back! I'll tell you all about my big trip later on, I had a great time, but it's still good to be home, and back with the team on The Afternoon Nap. You're back with Betty, and this is Station Radio.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1DJ...

...that beaut was from Paul Simon's often overlooked 'You're The One". Released in 2000, it is his tenth studio album, and without doubt, one more gem from a master storyteller. You've been listening with Betty, and this is Station Radio. Back later on.

Oct-16-12  mckmac: Goodmorrning Copenhagen!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9nQ...

Gidday, puppets and punks, you're back with Betty, sitting in for Marco69, who was filling in for Serge. You are listening to Station Radio, here in bytes and bits, on the famous Domdaniel Page. We are coming to you today from the Smiley Dairy, Station Square, Newmarket. The Smiley Dairy, where we have all sorts, but are still waiting for our Fairy.

Oct-16-12  mckmac: ...and you're back with Betty, the time is 10.19. Serge called from his Aunts' and asked me to play that song for Niels. Gidday Niels!

I'd like to dedicate this next one to the engineer of this digital wonderland. 'on ya Dom!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64of...

Oct-16-12  mckmac: Well. I just popped out for a menthol, only to return and find some mad woman solidly perched in my seat, shutting down my windows. When I politely, but firmly, enquired as to the nature of her 'endeavours', she told me, " there's no need to perform"

Sweetheart, I a'int even stripped down yet. Serge said play this for Paul Rose, Simon Grigg, and Tommy Sampson. Best Wishes Tom.

Oct-16-12  mckmac: We're going to dead air right now folks. This joint is a dump and I'm going to put it right. Talk amongst yourselves, go for a walk, or something.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2yG...

Oct-16-12  mckmac: ...and we're back, just a couple more things to sort out, and then the Express will be cleared to leave the Station. This is me now, saying sorry, to Kate, and Sylvia.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXCZ...

Oct-16-12  mckmac: So Mrs marco walked in here this morning, took a wad of moolah out of the till, stuck it in Marco's fist, walked him to the door, and told him, quietly, not to bother coming home tonight with even so much as 10c in his pockets. Classy Dame that Mrs marco. Got a txt from Marco telling me he had already spent half ofit at Real Groovy on Luther Vandross vinyl and a Dylan box--set. He was now off with his mates to the dogsto put the rest on the number 8's.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv7y...

Oct-16-12  mckmac: Ladies and Gentlemen, Mrs Marco and I have had a talk. We have some problems and we need a bit of time to sort them. Mrs Marco has shut the shop for the day and we are now sitting outside in the sun watching the dogs and little ones play.

Station Radio will be off air, in all formats, for at least a week. But we all will be back.

Lads, it's time to step up now. Mrs Marco has given her blessing to me, over a cup of tea, and now I'm going to let you have it. Perhaps our kind host, might, in the future, spare your blushes, and delete this post. Right now, I don't care. Things are getting out of hand 'round here. Here's a song while I go take a mild sedative.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fxok...

Oct-16-12  mckmac: Bit of a technical folks. Back later.
Oct-17-12  mckmac: ...and you are finally back with Betty, though closing time is near.

Marco, you have to cut back on work for a while. The shop is established now, let momentum pay the bills for you. You slot right in here with your groove thing. We all hope that you will join the collective. But Marco, you've got to let 'the Luther thing go'. Luther has been gone a good six years now. It's time you moved on. Listen you woodpecker, it matters not one jot that Luther was gay. It is sad that he had to conceal his identity, but that's a discussion for another day. Some of the greatest people in history have 'batted for the other side'. What only matters, in the end, is the strength of the desire, and the acknowledgement of the Divine within the body of another.

So loosen up Marco, and oh, try a thumb up your bum sometime, you might like it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tc1I...

Oct-17-12  mckmac: Serge man, You know I love you but you are a munter. I've read what you said and can't believe you are still crazy for that beautiful Witch Caitlin. Get a grip man. She is too young, too educated, too committed, too hard working, and far, far too nice for you mate. Fix your teeth, join the gym, make and save some money...at least give yourself a fighting chance you wombat.

And that's all folks. You've been batting it with Betty, here at the Smiley Dairy, Station Square Newmarket. See youse later...

Oct-20-12  mckmac: 'evenin'all, this is Phil, filling in for, er, Phil. You are with Station Radio, broadcasting here on the Domdaniel dial.

As you probably know, we are off--air right now, but Mrs Marco has asked me to drop in and do some Housekeeping.

The winner of the peanut slabs is Mr Jon Toogood of Wellytown. Well done Jon.

Serge called with this following message.

" Please, no more communiques calling for the return of jessicafischerqueen and the 'Good Gravy Hour'. It is not our place to entreat, invite, or suggest that Her Majesty does anything, in any way, at any time. If it was, we would be a Democracy, and we all know where that leads".

Nov-01-12  brankat: Peace.

perfidious: < Domdaniel: This a case of MVS - Missing Verb Syndrome - which usually accompanies a deep reluctance to undertake activity of any kind. The chessic equivalent is naturally related, and a Dirty Rat could well be a symptom....>

As in, '.....you shot my bruddah, you dirty rat'? Good old Cagney....or not.

<....As a World Champion of Inertia, I know the turf -- though actually I only reached the Inertitude Interzonal before I was defeated by a combination of ennui, tedium, kinetic inertia, hyperstability, supersaturation, anomie, obsolescence, stuckism, anti-tory conservatism, and the shock of encountering cultures where 'maƱana' was seen as hyperactive....>

As Napoleon had his Waterloo, Alydar faced Affirmed and Lasker ran smack into the brick wall that was Capablanca, you must have been up against it that cycle. Take consolation in the knowledge that you had to have run into a talent of epochal proportions, for surely it was only such which could have defeated a player of genius.

Domdaniel: Well. heh, I had to take what some might term extreme measures, but I've managed to continue my sabbatical. By burning most of my house down. Seriously. I even got taken to hospital -- one look at my shrivelled and blackened frame and the students next door began to run round the road shrieking instead of calling a fire engine.

Don't ever think your 'stuff' is 'backed-up-, boys'n'girls, unless the upbacking is professionally done. I had, eg, original MS copies, scans of same, copies on 2 laptops, copies on CDs & thumb drives and misc media .... but all were in two adjacent rooms on the 1st floor of my house. Where I'm told the temp reached 900 degrees C. Hot enough to ignite paper twice?

Thought at first I'd lost up to 20,000 books, including all chess stuff (as well as several sets and boards). I can't go on. It's been a few weeks and every day I recall something else.

But I am allegedly alive and this may well see an eventual Dom.2.0 ...

Queimada.

Domdaniel: <A> Thank you, m'dear. Based on last known location, however - all still in the original box - I fear those sf books are beyond repair.

Sorry about that. But I myself should regrow the relevant organs in time.

;)

Nov-19-12  dakgootje: Sorry to hear that dom :(

All those lost memories.. I'd highly hate my room burning down - and I'm still fairly new in the memory-department.

Although it's often starting to fail my already. Which is a tad odd - and slightly unsettling.

Heh, I actually starting using an agenda recently. Marvelous invention that.
