   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Annie K.: <G> I don't care about those books. I want to know how you are doing.

Send me an email, dammit. :p

Nov-19-12  Thanh Phan: <Domdaniel> Sorry to hear of your troubles, we have lost a house to fire before along with all we brought to Alaska, yet were fortunate enough that all survived.

I am glad you are well enough to let us know how things are going for you. Take what time you need, take care of yourself and best wishes -Thanh, friends and family

Nov-19-12  Tomlinsky: Good grief Dom. Be more careful with that chicken paraffindaloo recipe in future will you?

Hope that you're on the mend and have a house under your roof for the winter. You'll replace the things that really matter even if 'only' in spirit.

Stay well.

Nov-19-12  Alien Math: Your return :) Sorry to hear you had needs of hospital, are well now?

A book lost can replace at store or borrow when able, peoples have different warranty, here are online bookshelf if need a read http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Categ... Many luck <Domdaniel>

Nov-19-12  hms123: <Dom> I am glad you are alive and ...well.
Nov-19-12  mckmac: < Dom > Almost unbelievable news. I can't see you ever topping this one. I am also glad to hear that you are alive and well.

  SwitchingQuylthulg: <Domdaniel> :(

Take care of yourself and try to get back on what remains of your feet. There are some things in life even more important than books.

Nov-20-12  amadeus: Get well soon, <Dom>

And don't worry. We'll get you a couple of ebooks in the next few days :)

moronovich: Best wishes for your recovery <Dom> and good to see youre back !
Nov-20-12  twinlark: <Dom>

I'm so sorry to hear of your nasty misfortune, old son.

Get better, my friend, and know that that we're all wishing and willing all the best for you to rebuild your life.

Nov-20-12  mworld: :(

That brimstone smell and the reckoning and the smoting, doesn't make me happy to hear about it all.

Repent?

chancho: I'm sorry to hear about your troubles Dom.

I hope you have a quick recovery and don't worry about the material things.

Those you can always get back.

Your life is what's important.

jessicafischerqueen: <Dom> terrible news, despite your stiff upper lip. I hope you come back here to cg.com more often as well.

Love, Jess

Nov-21-12  achieve: I second the sentiments worded here by the previous posters, and dear <Dom, since you in the past informed us of being a myopic, thick-skinned old son, I am optimistic that you, with the help of your friends, can overcome this unfortunate tragic series of events, and will rebound. I know you can- and will- do it.

My best sincerely,
Niels

Nov-25-12  waustad: Wow. I just saw that there is another tournament in Ireland and wondered if you were commenting so I stopped in. I hope you are doing a lot better and everything works out for you.
Nov-26-12  frogbert: *speechless*. i hope for a speedy recovery and little permanent damage (although the loss of your cultural savings surely must hurt). i thought i was going through a rough patch, but on second thought i'm probably fine.

see you around, dom.

  Domdaniel: Thanks, everyone.

Hey, I rendered Frogbert speechless ... is this a record, or have I croaked?

Heh. It becomes increasingly clear that loss of possessions -- even, sigh, rarities carefully assembled over a 30-year-span -- is nothing when compared to loss of life. And everyone came thru the trauma alive.

Thanks, Annie, Switch, Thanh, twinlark, frogbert, achieve, waustad, dak et al. Much appreciated.

I can't send emails yet. *Just* got a new PC but have yet to set it up properly. But meanwhile I have occasional use of a comp which - thanks to CG's universal platform-friendliness - is much easier to get going. I also got a new cellphone with the old number, meaning that anyone (hi, Morgan) who preferred this mode of communication can continue as b4.

Whip crack away.

Regards to all. *That* time of year approaches and I'd better be functional by then, eh?

Annie K.: <G> can I ask Morgan for your number?

<*That* time of year approaches and I'd better be functional by then, eh?>

Absolutely. I figured this would tell us whether you are in fact alive. ;)

Domdaniel: <A> Re number, yeah, of course. Thought you already had it, ackshully. But <mack> tends to send me texts from various obscure parts of the planet. This one, usually.

;)

Meantime I'm trying to get properly online. There's a comp and a dongle and it's largely a matter of launching them in the right order.

Or asking for help. Not my strongest suit.

Nov-27-12

Annie K.: <G> good luck with that. ;)

Nope, didn't ask for it before - not my fave medium, as I've told you. But I'll call you once I've managed to chase <m> down. :)

Nov-28-12  crawfb5: Glad to hear things are slowing coming together. I hope life becomes more and more "normal" as time goes by. Enjoy the upcoming season of NuKlu. I couldn't get interested last round, but this is another year...

Maybe a new avatar is in order. A phoenix? :-)

Nov-28-12
Premium Chessgames Member
Domdaniel: <crawf> A phoenix? Well, hmmm ... what does an eye look after close contact with the lake of fire? A burned-out case or a roasted retina?

Last time, I made the cardinal error of trying to use *books* to combat Nuklu ... pointless, obviously. This will not be an option this year - I'll have to use online resources like everyone else.

Not too propitious, rilly.

<Jess> Sorry for leaving you out of the last thank-you list. A clerical error. The clerics responsible have been terminated.

<Annie> Yes, pls - fire ahead. A bit later ... couple hours, maybe, if that suits you?

Domdaniel: Yet another strange Coincidence ... yesterday, the captain of my chess team called. I'd lost his tel number and email with my old machinery, and imagined he'd spent the past month trying to get in touch.

But it transpires that the season is starting late - and the 1st match is on Saturday. Can I prepare without chessy stuff? Not much choice, now ...

Nov-28-12

  Annie K.: Will do. :)

<The clerics responsible have been terminated>

With extreme prejudice, I hope.

Good news on the chess front. Yes you can!

OhioChessFan: Glad you're in one piece. There was a rumor afloat that you'd been the victim of a successful ban campaign by a certain Floridian. I guess not afloat, I just made it up, anyway.
