   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <al wazir> - It's not easy to go back through past Holiday Present Hunts and discover useful information. Very few people have played regularly over the years -- even the players who are acknowledged as best, <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <MostlyAverageJoe> have now ...

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Domdaniel: <Ohio> - I try not to have an opinion of Mr. K. West.

That said, his comments on slavery seem to be idiotic. I can understand, just about, what I think he was trying to say -- but (1) it's completely wrong, and (2) it was clearly going to infuriate a lot of people. Either of which seems like enough reason to stay quiet.

The line about slavery was a real head scratcher. The rest of his screed was okay, out of character, maybe meant to stir people up, but I think people could see a point in it. But the slavery comment......whew.

On a much more important note, the only crab related foodstuff I care for is crab rangoon.

Aha. As in the former supergroup, Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Gifted & Black & Decker ... ?

I once had a large collection of movie stills. But they faded away.

Domdaniel: Don is POTUS and I'm not. Nor, unlike Don, would I want to be.

There's also Don Corleone, of course. I don't want to be like him either.

Don McClean isn't too bad, I guess.
