Cackle queenside, king fischer. Your collection of crows is murder. |

<Tim> well done on knowing that a group of crows is termed "a murder." Now for a burrito to be mailed later, can you tell me the zoological term for a group of bears? NO GOBBLING. |

<Tim,Matt>
Those are two of the best, if not the best, ornithological numbers ever. I wonder why there aren't more bird songs than there seem to be. Possibly <John Keats> ruined it for everyone when he wrote: "And no birds sang." |

May-10-19 | | mckmac: <Jess: Tim, well done on knowing that a group of crows is termed "a murder."> I thought you were jesting, but that's an actual fact. Awesome. I also discovered that a flock of flamingos can be called a "flamboyance", and a bunch of frogs, an "army". |

May-10-19 | | Boomie: <a group of bears?> That would be a nudist colony, eh?
Grin and bear it. |

May-11-19 | | mckmac: Ok. 1. <Diademas>; 2.<Count Wedgemore>; 3.<OhioChessFan>; 4.<HeMateMe>; 5.<Check It Out>; 6.<JessicaFischerQueen & WhiteShark> 🇮🇪 Proposed Scoring Plan 🇫🇷 (i) Only the entrants can vote.
(ii) Voters to rank top three games in order.
(iii) 3 points awarded for best game; 2 points for runner up; 1 point for the bronze medal. (iv) Each entrant is assumed to have chosen their nominated game as the best game, so everyone *starts* with 3 points. (v) Therefore, the entrants only vote for two games. 2 points for second best overall, and 1 point for third. (vi) In the event of a tie, whichever game has more second place votes will be declared the winner. (Voting to open on the 24th May and close on 31st May) |

I'd like to vote for 2.Ohio and 3.Wedge. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
Good heavens I didn't read the instructions again... Ok I'll be back with my votes on May 24.
For now, please cancel that order of Ohio Wedges. Interestingly, "Ohio Wedges" are the most popular shape for french fries in the city of Ohio. |
|
May-11-19
 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Matt> Can we still nominate more french fries up to May 24? |
|
May-11-19
 | | OhioChessFan: I'd like to forgo voting and determine the winner by pointing to a random page in Gravity's Rainbow and all the contestants guessing how many e's are on that page. |
|
May-11-19 | | mckmac: <Jess: Can we still nominate more french fries up to May 24?> I would vote no on that. Could be complicated. One scoop of fries per punter. <Ohio> Thank you for your suggestion. If you can garner any support from your fellow entrants, we will, of course, do just that. |

<Ohio> Great idea, but now that books only exist on computers, I am worried about getting greasy fingerprints on my screen if I try to point at a page. Also, another problem: Really, on a computer there is only one (1) "page", so this means all of us will point at the same page and come up with the same answer. I counsel a lengthy and pointless discussion about these teething problems before we proceed any further. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Ohio> I just tested your theory. I pointed to your "post" and sure enough I got a finger print on it. Luckily a lightly soaped ACME towellette did the trick. MY SUBMISSION PERTAINING TO THE CONCEPT OF ANSWERING YOUR TEST QUESTION: I guess that there are several "ees" on your post. PROBLEM: it is impossible to convey the concept of multiple "ees" without bastardizing the integrity of the letter "e." You can see there that punctuation also cocks up the integrity of "the letter in question." Further to your concept, I suggest we type "the letter in question" to refer to the letter "e." This should avoid any confusion.
Pardon my French. |

<Tim> what a remarkable video. First, who knew <Traffic> did a country western song, and even wore the gear? Second, the uploader did a brilliant job of making the words appear on various parts of the screen. PROBLEM: I still don't understand the "rules."
And I'm not just talking about the new game you have unleashed. The other night at chess club, I was not only halted in my attack, but roundly (and loudly) ridiculed for not knowing the "en passant" rule properly. I tried to get out of it by saying "pardon my French" but they were having none of it. |
|
May-12-19 | | Boomie: <Jessie: I tried to get out of it by saying "pardon my French" but they were having none of it.> We are chess players. We use words like "en pissant" and "jadoobie". To them these are punch lines at cocktail parties. Traffic had a bit of a split personality. "Poppy" songs like the one I posted were written by Dave Mason. The rest preferred a more jazzy genre. I'll admit I was a big fan of both faces. They inspired me to learn to play John Barleycorn Must Die, which has become topical of late since he's been stalking me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYM... |

Rules are overrated.
Here is Traffic's great first album, "Mr. Fantasy". Winwood was 18 or 19 then. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZm... |

<Tim> AWESOME I am listening to <Al's Bum> right now, thank you. I have to say <Al's Bum> is a great name for a record eh? It's also a great record so far. Very good pick. This record is surely experimental, if not actually mental, but you can still hear the bucolic English romanticism all the same. According to a documentary I saw last year, <Steve> spent every second stoned in a house they rented in the country. They were meant to finish writing and recording a record, but it took a long time, if you catch my drift. The doc is on youtube but predictably I can't remember the tittle. |

<Tim> Man I really like this record eh? It reminds me of <Genesis> waaaay back in the day, or a <Syd Barrett> composition when he was still with <Pink Floyd> Jazzier, but still could be considered prog rock. Or frog rock, which <Dom> would no doubt appreciate. |
