<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

OhioChessFan: 15. Rd1 is a wasted tempo. I assume White was trying to outnumber the defenders of d5 but missed the skewer Qc6. In any case, as <tsv> said years ago, the Rook needs to stay on the f file.

OhioChessFan: Oh dear. I hope I didn't come off as one of those insufferable twits who cries for attention by a Woe is Me routine. Maybe I've falsely attributed such an agenda to other posters in the past. Thank you for the responses.
Oct-13-11  Hugin: Sorry to hear you'r having problems King, i hope that change fast.

Oct-13-11  Benzol: I'm sorry to hear that too. Hope things work out OK for you.

<OCF> Thanks for your reply, there is no big deal, we can bring the topic again at the next contest.

p.s. My best wishes that your personal things get fix soon.

OhioChessFan: I'll have a look <GE> I am really the typical ignorant American when it comes to music. I have taken to grabbing 3 or 4 CD's at my weekly library visit to broaden my horizons. Not sure how long I've been doing that, maybe 6 months. I try to focus on the areas I have listened to least, which would mostly be jazz and classical. My ignorance knows no bounds, as this week I have started my first ever listen of Firesign Theatre. After listening, I will do a search of this site of that person's name and learn a little more. Amusing the number of times someone asks what chess player would be Stravinsky. I think the best answer posited would be Korchnoi.

As for the music, I note this comment on the link you dropped: <I always seem to find that no matter how many times you listen to Stravinsky's music, to really and truly see how amazing it is, you must watch the ballet.>

Oct-16-11  crawfb5: <OCF> Here's what's in the car CD player today -- Bill Evans <You're Gonna Hear From Me>:

Here he is doing the Thelonious Monk classic <Round Midnight>:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Qwi...

Here he does the Disney song <Someday My Prince Will Come> that has become a jazz classic:

Oct-17-11  Shams: Beethoven, Hamlet, Kasparov's Immortal, Elvis. That's a pretty good cross section.

Mammals can <feel>, though, and exhibit <compassion>. Whereas there is no such thing as a "pet iguana", in my opinion. Cheers.

jessicafischerqueen: Are you gentlemen under the impression that humans aren't mammals?

That's just a label used to distinguish one group of organisms from another according to a set of physiological characteristics.

If the mommy has BAZOOMBAS, you're looking at a mammal.

Here is a visual aid:

Oct-18-11  Shams: <jfq> Are you really going to force us to write "non-humanoid mammals" every time!?

Mammary shots always welcome, but there's a secret boys-only forum, and you can't tell on pain of shunning. Doll

I'll erase the link in ten minutes. Moscow Rules on this one.

jessicafischerqueen: <Shams> have you read LeCarre or seen the two excellent adaptations of his work on the BBC, with Alec "Pint O" Guiness as <George Smiley>?

That's where I first heard about "Moscow Rules," having to produce half of a ripped up photo to prove identity.

<moronvich> if you're going to talk <Big Bazoombas>, you're going to want to talk to <Big Crawdaddy>.

He's both an expert and an afficianado, as the Major will confirm.

You can find him here: crawfb5 chessforum

Oct-18-11  Shams: <jess> Yes, I got into le Carre when I lived in Japan, actually. He and Philip Roth were decently represented at the Osaka Public Library. :)

I'm too annoyed about the casting of Gary Oldman to be that excited for the new "Tinker", though Colin Firth as Bill Hayden is a great choice.
