<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

  OhioChessFan: ♔ Round 7 Recap ♔

A bit of a shakeup after a tough round. <Karposian> and <WinKing> both lead 2 categories. <OhioChessFan> not only didn't score any points, he didn't predict a single game outcome correctly. Rest day tomorrow for most of the contestants to lick their wounds. 2 rounds to go.

Jun-11-14  WinKing: Some fun facts

A breakdown of the Norway 2014 chess tournament:

Round 1 - 41(1/2), 39(0-1), 32(1/2), 40(1/2), 48(1/2) Avg. - 40 moves

Round 2 - 39(1-0), 60(1/2), 55(1-0), 36(0-1), 36(1/2) Avg. - 45 moves

Round 3 - 63(1/2), 40(1-0), 43(0-1), 67(1/2), 42(1/2) Avg. - 51 moves

Round 4 - 53(1/2), 54(1-0), 45(1/2), 28(1/2), 41(1/2) Avg. - 44 moves

Round 5 - 49(1/2), 93(1-0), 52(1-0), 38(1/2), 43(1-0) Avg. - 55 moves

Round 6 - 48(1/2), 42(1/2), 38(1/2), 44(1/2), 31(1/2) Avg. - 40 moves

Round 7 - 131(0-1), 66(1/2), 74(1/2), 63(1/2), 23(1/2) Avg. - 71 moves

Avg. # of moves in just the twentyfour 1/2's = 46 moves (The shortest draw was 23 moves while the longest was 74 moves)

Avg. # of moves in just the seven 1-0 games = 53 moves (inflated because of the 93 move game by Carlsen & Aronian in Round 5) if the 93 move game is discarded the avg. drops to 47 moves

Avg. # of moves in just the four 0-1's = 62 moves (inflated because of the 131 move game by Giri vs. Karjakin in Round 7) if the 131 move game is discarded the avg. drops to 39 moves

Games with 20-29 moves = 2
Games with 30-39 moves = 8
Games with 40-49 moves = 13
Games with 50-59 moves = 4
Games with 60-69 moves = 5
Games with over 70 moves = 3

<This tournament has one of the highest move averages that I can ever remember. Nigel Short made a comment during Round 7 that he thinks "because the prize fund is so high that the fighting spirit is greater because of this" - I tend to agree with his comment. They seem to be staying at the board a little longer.>
