<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

OhioChessFan: Thanks <tps> :o) When are we going to get you entered?

18 entries, lots of work for <chessmoron> <Penguincw> will be on the prowl to help, but we'll miss <WinKing>

Nov-08-14  PinnedPiece: I think my 12th prediction should be counted as part of my set.

Maybe the best strategy is to predict 7 or 8 wins for Magnus then stop!

....everyone else would stand a chance of point deductions with too many predictions --unless of course the match goes all 12.

I think it was already decided that it won't be included.

< chessmoron: <OhioChessFan> I'm not going to count <PinnedPiece>'s 12th game since by game 11, Carlsen already scored 6.5 by his prediction. >

But again, it's still early, so it's not like one draw is going to decide the entire faith of the match...

Nov-08-14  chessmoron: <Round 1 Recap> Congratulations to <bubuli55> (7), <siamesedream> (6), and <PinnedPiece> (5).

I can confirm that. There were 4 predictions of 0-1 and 14 of 1/2-1/2, but no 1-0.

< OhioChessFan: Ummm, I think I did but somehow it got deleted from the forum. Let me repost it now. >

Really? My records (which I did on Saturday morning) say that you predicted a draw in 45 moves. I also checked the forum for deleted posts, and although there were some, I doubt they were yours...

  OhioChessFan: ♔ Rounds 1-3 Recap ♔

As expected, this is a very hard format to score points in. 2/3 of the entrants don't have a point yet. For 3 games, the maximum score possible would be 72 points. We have reached 1/3 of that with 24 points. <WoolyBully> has the lead but the contest is wide open. <Penguincw> hasn't figured out <OhioChessFan> is pulling his leg or flipper or something about a supposed predicted Anand win. 9, or fewer, rounds to go.

keypusher: <OCF> Thanks for hosting this.

I have to say, I'm surprised -- even if I got a point just for predicting the right result in a game (which would make this contest a little less depressing for all of us down at zero), I'd have only a point from four games right now.

Nov-12-14
Premium Chessgames Member
OhioChessFan: <key> yeah, it's brutal sometimes. I think the record is 8 rounds before someone scored, and that was with 3 or 4 games a round to hit one. I won't be surprised at all if some people don't score a point in this format. It amounts to only 4 rounds of a typical 6 man tournament, 12 games to score. We have people shut out that long all the time. I always hope people do get <something> because a 0 by your name is pretty depressing.

<The Ohioan>

Just "thinking" out loud- why not let an actual Monkey choose the "range parameter"?

20-90 sounds good to me, but the I'm only a Womenkey.
