<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

  OhioChessFan: ** Final Recap **

The World Chess Championship Moves Prediction gold medal winner is the Legendary <WinKing>! The publicity hounds of New York City have besieged <Winky> and he's trying to hide from the mobs. He is hoping that most chess fans will be leaving the NYC area today as this contest was the main point of interest, although some are staying to watch the essentially irrelevant game tomorrow. Despite the distraction of the beautiful Laurie Hernandez, <WinKing> was able to lay claim to the most important crown in the world of chess. He kept young Miss Laurie well hidden and tried to focus only on this competition. Well done, <Winky> and here's hoping your relationship of 2 gold medal winners continues. As Laurie didn't show up here, it will have to suffice to show a link of her at the Olympics:

http://images.eonline.com/eol_image...

The World Chess Championship Moves Prediction Contest silver medal winner is <SwitchingQuylthulg> <Switch> was the only strong challenger to <WinKing> and held on for a silver medal. He deserves a gold medal for protecting the Carlsen camp's computer files from Russian infiltration. Congratulations to <Switch>

The bronze medal winner is <alfamikewhiskey> He scored 7 points in the last 2 games to surge to third position. <amw> attributes his success to writing in a ballot with Hillary Clinton for President and Donald Trump for Vice President, to cover all his bases. Congratulations to <amw>

In other news, the hosts of this contest finished in the bottom two spots. <chessmoron> finished next to last, blaming the overwhelming crush of media attention for his poor performance. "There's only so many hours in the day and having to hand out all those press passes kept me from focusing on my role as contestant.", he said. <OhioChessFan> was thoroughly humiliated to be last for another contest, although he was greatly relieved he did score one point. "Hey, I scored as many points as Carlsen and Karjakin have wins so far!", he whined.

Thanks to everyone for playing. We hope the fans who meant to leave today will go ahead and watch that meaningless game tomorrow. A good crowd there would mean a lot to the players. We'll leave you with one more picture of Laurie Hernandez:

Nov-28-16  alfamikewhiskey: Thanks a lot for hosting. I like the summaries.

One more prediction, though:

- Carlsen will win the 12th game

Nov-28-16  WinKing: Thanks to <chessmoron> & <OhioChessFan> for running & hosting this contest for the WCC.

Congrats to the medal winners! Judging by the fact we all picked this to end in 11 rounds or less GM Karjakin has shown us he definitely belongs here in this WCC match.

Hope to see you all in the next prediction event(s)!

SwitchingQuylthulg: Congratulations to <WinKing>, and thanks to <chessmoron> and <OhioChessFan> for hosting!

The scoring system discourages picking a game 12, even if you do think it will happen; maybe the 5-point penalty is too heavy.

Nov-28-16
Premium Chessgames Member
OhioChessFan: Yeah, it's steep. If you knew you were the only one, it might be worth a shot. I don't like the thought of reading all the other entries to influence your own picks anyway. In this case, I am pretty sure I'm not alone in that I just didn't think it'd get to game 12.
Nov-28-16  WinKing: <SwitchingQuylthulg: ...maybe the 5-point penalty is too heavy.>

Yeah <Switch> 5 pts. seems a bit much. Maybe 2 or 3 pts. might be better. Next time around perhaps we could petition <chessmoron> to consider lowering the penalty just a little.

Nov-28-16
Premium Chessgames Member
OhioChessFan: Maybe. I still think everyone just played it straight and thought the match would be over already.

One nuance that makes me think the penalty should be heavy is if someone picked all draws. It's hard in the normal contests to pick a decisive game, because if you miss, you're giving the whole field a free shot that game in that round. It's doubly hard in a match in that you're giving the whole round away if you pick a decisive game and miss. I saw some logic to the decisive games selected by the contestants, I think I can defend my choices, but it was still hard to pull the trigger, knowing I was giving a round away if I missed, and probably another round if I didn't pick a decisive game when it finally did happen. I'm sure some people thought of just punting and picking all draws. If they did, they'd have to pick a round 12 since they wouldn't have picked a winning score of 6.5 for either side yet(It's my understanding that is required to not pick games in the later rounds). I wouldn't mind much seeing someone choosing that safe route paying a big price for it if it got to that point. I don't know. It didn't really enter into it this time, but I guess we can look at it.
