<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

offramp: 1957 imagine! So that problem is 60 years old.

Still guaranteed to bewilder people at the chess club or even in a pub.

Blimey! So it might have been partially ripped off?

You have the old acts playing stuff everyone has heard 1000 times, The Who, Petty, Springsteen, Stones, U2, etc. Fine, but no new ground broken. Then you have the current stuff, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars (shudder),>

I am just curious - what do you have against Bruno Mars?

I am not here to debate. I am just curious why you would "shudder" about Bruno Mars?

OhioChessFan: Just got back from the local bakery. I like to read the paper and drink coffee and just relax in the morning. While there, a woman came with a kid maybe 6 years old. She kept asking the kid what he wanted. The kid kept asking for a pink doughnut. Apparently he'd gotten one on Valentine's Day. Mom kept saying they didn't have pink, kid kept saying that's what he wanted. Now there are 2 people in line behind them. Mom tells kid to pick something or she'll pick for him. Kid refuses, starts to get louder. Mom says "You're tired". I'm thinking, "No, he's a brat." Now there's 3 people in line. Mom says (and of course, I know this is an idle threat) that if he doesn't pick she'll just leave without him getting something. Kid begins to <stomp his feet>. Mom says "You're tired." I'm still thinking, "No, he's a brat."

Now there's 4 people in line. Mom picks something she thinks the kid will like. Kid says he doesn't want that. Now there's 5 people in line. Mom finally says "Let's go" and walks out. Kid stays behind and <stomps his feet> some more, and begins the fake cry that kids are wont to do. She gets in the car and he realizes the gig is up and runs out. There are 6 people in line at this point, people I can tell are on their way to work. Worker says "Whew, sorry you had to wait. Too bad you can't spank kids any more." to the first person in line. I said "Dad would have dealt with that as soon as I stamped my feet."

Then the worker's jaw dropped open and she said, in disbelief, "She's bringing him back in." Yes, this idiot mother <let her kid win>, acting the total fool, the total brat, wasting the time of 6 other people. I expect to see that little brat's picture in the newspaper in 15 years or so.

saffuna: I have a guess about that kid. I wonder what you think.

I suspect there is at least one grandparent deeply involved in raising that kid. Either with the parents' approval or without it.

OhioChessFan: The President remark was rather humorous. I noticed mom didn't have a wedding ring on, but that doesn't seem to matter much these days. Parents are in general just horrible in raising children.

saffuna: Sorry, I dropped it because I did want to ask a real question.

I will agree with you in many cases. And letting grandparents make decisions on a regular basis, especially in presence of the child, is one of the biggest errors parents make.

(Yes, there are good grandparents, of course. The majority. But they give their children space to raise the grandchildren.)

And I hate, hate, hate waiting in line. Actually if it's moving it's not so bad, but if it just stops...

OhioChessFan: The Idle Threat just drives me crazy. "I'll give you until the count of three, blah blah blah." With her it was "Pick now or you're not getting anything." Everyone there knew that wasn't going to happen.

The Dinette Set had a hilarious take on that once that was dead on. I hadn't thought of the grandparent issue but it wouldn't surprise me.

saffuna: As you know I have been living in a different culture, where grandparents typically take a daily role in raising children.

Grandmothers often live in the home acting in effect as a nanny. With results you can imagine. Or maybe beyond that.

What's a "paper?"

Mar-07-17

OhioChessFan: A paper is something old people buy for an extorbitant price. It's sort of like a HuffPo news compilation in book form.
Mar-07-17  User not found: Put me back on ignore. You complained "It's not faiiiirrrrr. I can't ignore UNF!". Well Daniel opened my forum so you could ignore me so.. Well ignore me, lol.

Mar-07-17  User not found: Well okay. No problem with that I just don't want anyone getting involved in what's currently being discussed on the Rogoff page. That's my family. You can defend your friend all you want but if you do it wherever I'm posting I'm going to say something, because like it or not he was <very wrong>. Let's just see how this plays out and then we'll see who the liar is.

Peace out.

OhioChessFan: I am not defending it and I would not have done it. To equate it with pedophilia is far beyond reasonable.
