<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

  OhioChessFan: ** Final Update **

<OhioChessFan> managed to escape the evil clutches of his employer at 4AM and discover that <WinKing> has won a Triple Crown. He took a silver in the other ranker, won by <Switch>, who added 2 silvers and a bronze. <offramp> had 2 silvers, <Penguincw> had a silver and a bronze, <sea otter> had 3 bronze, and <wordfunph> had a bronze.

<chessmoron> and <GE> waited until the last round to hit a #1, so they got rid of the remaining 0's on our scoreboard, which had become a bit of an embarrassment.

Thanks to <GE> for scoring and all the contestants for participating.

Penguincw: Woo, I got 2 medals. Anyway, thanks to all for making this contest possible, and hope to see you soon (Dortmund, Biel or Sinquefield I guess).
Jun-17-17  WinKing: Thanks for a well run contest <Golden Executive> & thanks to <OhioChessFan> for hosting this prestigious event.

Congratulations to all of those fortunate enough to win a medal! I had the opportunity, once again, to duel it out with <SwitchingQuylthulg> one of the best players in this 'moves prediction' contest. This time I was the one lucky enough to get the better of it. Next time, if there is one, it may have a different ending. I salute you <Switch> on a great contest!

Look forward to seeing you all at the next event!

Jun-17-17  WinKing: <chessmoron> if you can find the time it would be great if you could update the Hall of Fame stats. I'm trying to keep up with everything in my forum but the stats I have are pretty outdated - thanks.

Fusilli: Another useful endgame concept, which shows up in actual play more than most people think, is that you can't win with king, a bishop and rook pawn versus king if the bishop does not run on squares of the same color as the pawn's promotion square and the defending king manages to reach the promotion square.

I benefited from that fact in this game (not in this database):

Benedict Smail v Mariano Sana, US Open 2009

White has winning chances with 52.Bd8 or even something like 52.Bb1 or 52.Bc2, but exchanging bishops was too tempting and he played 52.Bd3:

Black has no choice but trading, which fortunately suffices to draw:

56... Kd7, just in time! 57. Bxb8 Kc8 58. Bf4 Kb7

Jul-02-17  cormier: <OCF> God is a very good judge, the best of best, if he has to judge, we live a day at a time therefore we may be judge one day at a time, yet the church won't be judge, it will not be necessary ... live long and prosper ..... ths G

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

“For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? For ye are our glory and joy” (1 Thessalonians 2:19, 20).

OhioChessFan: Way behind: Thanks for The Who tune, <Travis>. Interesting ESPN article <WannaBet>. One of those endgames that really aren't "logical" but important to know, <Fusilli>, of course the middle game must be played with one eye on that possible ending. Thank you <cormier>.
Jul-12-17  chessmoron: <OCF> Let's do Dortmund.
Jul-13-17  Golden Executive: A belated thanks to <OCF> for hosting the show, a great one as usual.

Also, a belated congratulations to all the medal winners, particularly to <WinKing> on winning an amazing Triple Crown!.

See you gals and guys in a few days for Dortmund 2017!
