<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

  OhioChessFan: ** Round 13 Recap **

The crowd is in a frenzy, as we prepare for the final round. The leaderboard is hopelessly close. In Moves Ranker, <amw> <Switch> and <wordfunph> remain tied for the lead. In Bonus Ranker, <chessmoron> and <Count Hedgemore> are tied. In Moves+Bonus Ranker, <chessmoron> has a little bit of a lead over <WinKing>. And in #1 Ranker, <amw> leads by one pick over <Switch> and <word>.

Meanwhile, <lostemperor> apparently thinks you get bonus points if you make the same picks today as you did 2 years ago. Not to be outdone, <GE> plans to pick Svidler/Anand to draw this round. <Penguincw> is pleading with <WinKing> to find some more random points to add to his score. <chessmoron> is glaring at everyone. <juan31> is high on raw coffee beans. <Count Wedgemore> is hoping to call on his inner reserve of objectivity ability to make a strong move. <offramp> has incurred the wrath of Mamedyarov and Karjakin by conceding the tournament to Caruana already. They have resolved to fight hard to make sure his picks don't score points. <Fiona> is still cursing 11 picks in Bonus Ranker going over. <OhioChessFan> is hoping for a ridiculously lucky round like Ding needs to win, figuring that if he only hits 3 perfects and another first under, he might sneak his way to a gold. <Robin01> just hopes to avoid a Quadruple Clown.

This is it. Bigger than the Indy 500, more exciting than the Kentucky Derby, a bigger spectacle than the Super Bowl, more captivating than the Final 4, more tense than the World Series, more dreams smashed than Amen Corner, we have reached the end of this passion filled contest. The contestants are all showing the strain, except <lostemperor>, who said "Won't help your efforts into a frenzy working yourself." And here we go. The crowd rises.......

OhioChessFan: As we anxiously await our results, a few notes. Thanks to our starters, <WinKing> and <Penguin> and <word>. Thanks to <WinKing> for the impossible job of trying to keep <chessmoron> honest and for his annoying halftime speeches. Thanks to <chessmoron> for putting on the show.

Be patient for the results as he is on the other side of the world and they tell time wrong over there. I think he gets up at 3 AM 2 days ago or something to give today's results. Thanks everyone, for playing.

Mar-27-18  Ceri: I've been following the Thematic Challenge as an interested observer, using my mobile from various exotic locations.

The game has moved in a different direction to that which I had previously envisaged.

I would have played differently from move 34.

I think that White can still win but to be sure I would have had to have used end-game databases which is not allowed in the actual game.

Should I wait until the game is over before publishing my comments?

Cheers,

Ceri

Of course, I would not have mentioned the possibility if my ideas had any relevance to the current position.

Cheers,

Penguincw: Alright, I got 2 medals.

Great contest. Thanks to <chessmoron> for running this thing and <WinKing> for double checking. (that one point was the difference between a silver and bronze for me ;) ). Also thanks to <OhioChessFan> for providing colour commentary.

Congrats to all the medalists (highlighted by <wordfunph>'s double crown) and hope to see you soon (a couple of days?).

juan31: Thanks to <chessmoron; OhioChessFan; WinKing> congrats to all.
Mar-28-18  WinKing: Thanks <chessmoron> for running this highly competitive contest. I don't remember ever playing in one where the contestants were so closely bunched together score wise. Thanks <OhioChessFan> for hosting and providing us with highly entertaining commentary.

Congratulations to all of the medalists! 9 of the 14 contestants walked away with something & that is good to see. <wordfunph> was top dog pounding away at the Move's Rankers. This allowed him to pick up a couple of golds good for a 'Double Crown'. Way to go bro! We had a good battle in the Bonus Ranker between <chessmoron> & <Count Wedgemore> the final 3 rounds which ended in a draw. Both of them walked away with a gold. <alfamikewhiskey> continued his solid play from Tata Steel & walked away with yet another gold. He continues his climb up the 'Gold Leaderboard'. I started the contest rather badly but managed to score a few good rounds at the end to bring a gold home in the Moves+Bonus Ranker. All in all this was a very exciting tournament but one that was difficult for us contestants to get locked into.

Mar-28-18  chessmoron: Hey <WinKing>, not bad yourself. Bag 4 medals!
Mar-28-18  alfamikewhiskey: Thanks for running and hosting and keeping track. Great fun! AMW
