<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Thanks for posting that <juan31>. That is a good thing to know. I like that rule better than 30 moves.

Mar-30-18  lostemperor: Round 1:

Caruana - Carlsen 1/2 42
Bluebaum - Vitiugov 1/2 44
Meier - Aronian 1/2 44

juan31: I put the rule to remember in this contest < do not place draws with less than 40 moves>
Mar-30-18  Count Wedgemore: <juan31: I put the rule to remember in this contest < do not place draws with less than 40 moves>>

Well <juan>, it's important to remember that even though draw offers are not allowed until move 40, there will still likely be games ending in draws that will last much shorter than that, because of threefold repetitions. In the Candidates tournament the players were not allowed to make draw offers before move 30, but several games ended before that. For example Aronian-So, Ding-Karjakin and Grischuk-Mamedyarov were all drawn in less than 20 moves, and there were three or four more drawn games that ended in less than 30.

Penguincw: Hi <juan31>. I saw your comment on my forum, but I see any confusion has been cleared up now.

Of course, don't forget that even if no draws period are allowed before 40 moves <at all>, if everyone predicts "1/2-1/2 40", and the game ends with "1/2-1/2 40", but I predict d:1/2-1/2 39", I still get 6 points in Bonus Ranker (who knows when this strategy could be useful).

But thank you for telling me that anyway. I'd like to change my predictions.

Round 1:

Caruana - Carlsen 1/2-1/2 30
Bluebaum - Vitiugov 1/2-1/2 40
Meier - Aronian 1/2-1/2 40

  OhioChessFan: ** Round 1 Recap **

Our heroic contestants barely had time to catch their breath after the last exhausting event, but got their game face on in a hurry. 119 total points were scored that round. Only two contestants failed to score. <Switch> took an early lead in 3 Rankers, and <amw> and <OCF> share the lead in the other.

Meanwhile, instead of resting, <OhioChessFan> spent the entire time between tournaments complaining about one thing or another. Whether it was complaining about other people picking too many draws or other people picking too many decisive games or not getting enough credit for picking a Black win, he was sure to whine about it. <chessmoron> felt that didn't reflect well on this contest, so he glared at <OCF>. Of course, <WinKing> had to put in his two cents, telling <OCF> "Oh, people will not pick 99 out of a 100 draws in <THIS> tournament, so nothing to worry about. You just have to keep believing in yourself." <OCF> glared at <Winky>. <chessmoron> glared at both of them.

A new challenger to <WinKing> in the Pollyanna competition, <juan31> decided that he wanted to <help> his competitors, for some inexplicable reason. As to be figured, <Penguincw> was the inevitable beneficiary. <OCF> complained about that, saying "If it's not <Winky> helping <Penguin>, it's <juan>." <OCF> glared at <juan> and <chessmoron> glared at both <juan> and <OCF>. <Penguincw> can't decide if <WinKing> or <juan> is his biggest hero, so he'll probably put a life size poster of both on his bedroom wall. <OCF> is considering "accidentally" deleting <Penguin's> (real picks, not pretend and not yet reviewed by Goody 2 Shoes <juan>) picks in some future round just to make things fair again. Not to be outdone in <THAT> do gooder department, <WinKing> decided to help <amw> score more points. <OCF> glared even more at <WinKing> and <chessmoron> glared even more at <OCF>.

It's a short tournament, so our contestants will have to struggle through their exhaustion. Only 8 rounds to go in our thrilling contest.
