<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

Aug-01-18  WinKing: Thanks to <chessmoron>, aka 'iron man', for running two tournaments back to back. 17 rounds non stop is tough! Also, thanks to <OhioChessFan> for hosting & providing entertaining commentary.

Congratulations to all of the medalists! Special grats to <Penguincw> on winning his first 'Triple Crown' in this contest. Three more shiny golds for your trophy case - well done! :)

Always fun to play here with all of you! Hope to see you all at Sinquefield which I believe is our next contest.

juan31: Thanks for run the contest <chessmoron, OhioChessFan, WingKing> Congratulations to all.
Aug-01-18  Golden Executive: Ouch! Seems like I scored today in the wrong ranker...

Oh well, many thanks to the crew for running 2 contests in a row. Congratulations to all the winners, especially to <Penguincw> on his amazing Triple-Crown. Well done my friend!

See you guys next time!

Aug-01-18  Count Wedgemore: My compliments to <Penguincw> for winning a Triple Crown. That is a very impressive achievement. Also, congrats to <WinKing> for his gold medal.

Thank you, <OCF> and <chessmoron>. See you all next time!

Aug-01-18  chessmoron: Thanks <WinKing> for the finishing touches of <WINNER'S CORNER>. ;)

  OhioChessFan: ** Final Recap **

It was an exciting final round as <Penguincw> held on by his fingernails to capture a Triple Gold. <Winky> and <Switch> made a late charge in Bonus+Moves Ranker and #1 Ranker respectively, but didn't quite catch up. <Winky> hung on to win a close race for the Bonus Ranker gold.

In other news, <chessmoron> is thrilled the contest is over as he was again overcome with exhaustion and slept through yet another round. <Switch> was wandering around the playing hall the way we're used to seeing <OCF>, moaning, "Why, me?". <DD> doesn't know how hard this contest is yet, and probably doesn't appreciate what a great result it is to finish a close second. <GE> still doesn't have the Rankers and scoring system figured out yet, and none of the other contestants have any plans to help him.

I'm glad to have this website for the entertainment of stuff like this game, but I am still rather subdued in my thoughts of Daniel. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to <chessmoron> and <Winky> and everyone who played.

OhioChessFan: I am with <nok> in being somewhat shocked that Daniel Freeman was <sneaky>. I didn't see any point on bringing it up on the cg.c forum nor Daniel Freeman's player page, so here's a list of <sneaky> kibitzes on the chessgames.com forum:

Search Kibitzing

I have a sore neck from shaking my head. There are a couple "hints", methinks, among those and I suppose Daniel felt it was an inside joke to see if anyone could figure it out. The reference to "about 1800" ELO, and "in South Florida" in sneaky's profile always intrigued me, as they do apply to Daniel, but if you read the kibitzes above, there's just no way you think they're one and the same. And a few other references along the way about dealing with hurricanes and wishing cg.c well during the storms.....I can't get a hold of that. I'm equal parts intrigued, amused, bemused, and bewildered by it. Overall, I think it's kind of neat to leave that behind to remind everyone that you really never do have someone figured out.

chancho: <OCF> But is <Sneaky> really really the late Daniel Freeman?

If he was playing a sock puppet, he really was as good as Sir Laurence Olivier in Bsing the posters.

Check this kibitz from 2007:

chessgames.com chessforum (kibitz #4517)

<Sneaky>'s complaining about some problem with the site that needs to be addressed, and the webmaster (Daniel) responds to his post.

<Sneaky> has not posted since the 21st of last month, that's 12 days ago.

Some definitive answers are still needed to confirm that Sneaky is in fact Daniel.

Aug-02-18  Count Wedgemore: <chancho: <OCF> But is <Sneaky> really really the late Daniel Freeman?>

In all due respect, <chancho>, it was <Sargon> that revealed it, and, as I understand it, he is the one who is taking over the reins here on <CG>. And he wrote that he was one of Daniel Freeman's closest friends for over thity years. So how can this not be true? How on earth would he ever write something like this if it wasn't the case? This is what he wrote on July the 30th:

<Sargon: Farewell, my friend <Sneaky>. We'll meet again someday in <glory>.

Dan Freeman ("D") was one of my <closest> friends for over 30 years, starting from our earliest days at college, and then throughout our business partnership, which began in 1995. He passed away before his time and he'll be <dearly> missed. In his memory, I will do my utmost to honor his vision for this community from this moment forward.>

Daniel Freeman (kibitz #288)

There is nothing ambiguous about that post, is it? Of course, you guys have been around here longer than I, and I'm not familiar with <Sneaky>'s posts over the years, but I can only conclude that Daniel Freeman must indeed have been <Sneaky>.

TheAlchemist: If they really are one and the same, it shows some next-level dedication, as if we needed more proof of that, a truly elaborate trolling (I'm not using this negatively, but I really don't know what other word to use) of the community for the ages.

Building a distinct enough personality, "conversing" with yourself, always being careful to log in to the right account to not out yourself accidentally, all the while leaving certain hints. And for almost 20 years at that!

Brilliant, if you think about it.

Penguincw: Thanks to <chessmoron>, <OhioChessFan> and <WinKing> for helping to run yet another contest, right after Dortmund.

Until I looked at the score, I never realized how close it was. I honestly thought, for First Ranker, as long as <SwitchingQuylthulg> doesn't hit 3 games (which is unlikely), I get at least shared gold.

It almost happened.

Congrats to <WinKing> and the other medalists, and see you in a bit.

Aug-04-18  Mr. President: Dear <OhioChessFan>,

I will be going to Ohio tonight to campaign for <Troy Balderson> for the big Congressional Special Election on Tuesday. Early voting is on. <Troy is strong on Crime, <the Border & loves our Military, <Vets & 2nd Amendment.>>> His opponent is a puppet of Nancy Pelosi/high taxes.

<Troy Balderson>, running for Congress from Ohio, is in a big Election fight with a candidate who just got caught lying about his relationship with Nancy Pelosi, who is weak on Crime, Borders & your 2nd Amendment-and wants to raise your Taxes (by a lot).

<Vote for Troy on Tuesday!>

OhioChessFan: It's pretty easy to get my support for Congress.

1. Don't support Nancy Pelosi.
2. Don't support baby killers.

Aug-04-18  thegoodanarchist: I think the site was down for about 20 minutes again this evening.

I thought it might shut down... Disturbing thought.

OhioChessFan: Yep, I had the same experience tonight and had the same thoughts. Happened a few days back, too. I'm not sure if I posted it, but that may have prompted you now.

As for the current sad proceedings, I know <JFQ> had some gentle discussions with Daniel about this sort of thing, and he brushed it off as no problem. It was set pretty clearly in the context of "Why should we spend untold hours working for this site when it might close up shop?" A valid point, and I know I wasn't reassured by Daniel's response.

It's still very early in the game so there's no conclusions to be drawn. I am a bit disturbed we've had no official announcement from whoever is running the show. Something, anything should have been set forth. While other people seem encouraged by so many people willing to step up, I can't get past the thought that that's no way to run a railroad. And there's simply no way such an ad hoc effort is going to work in the long run. If that's the plan, I don't have much optimism. But it's early, and things may be more under control than they appear. But we need a statement, soon.

OhioChessFan: <zanzi: <OCF> do I Have to Listen to You? Or can I ignore you too? >

No. Yes. You apparently have no sense of how improper what you're doing is. I was reluctant to even post what I did for fear it'd start a flame war, but I felt compelled to say it. Take a minute to think about what you're doing on Daniel Freeman's page. If you feel compelled to discuss it, surely you can find somewhere better to do so.

I'm really in disbelief people are continuing to act like this is an episode of Scooby Doo and they want to be the first to figure out the mystery. We'll know, soon enough. That's all.

Aug-04-18  zanzibar: Who's whining now?

<Ohio> That was a generous account of what happened, thanks for that. I felt rude when questioning Daniel about what he might do to guarantee the future existence of cg.com.

I was indeed rude to him many, many times and I'm feeling guilty about that now.

  jessicafischerqueen:

<Ohio> I think the code might already be degrading eh?

I have been trying to split up a few of my games collections to make enough room in the intros to include all the relevant downloaded game pgns from cg.com, and errors keep happening with regard to the punctuation marks on foreign languages.

This was not happening before this morning.

I advise all to save their work at cg.com before it is too late.

Aug-05-18  thegoodanarchist: Who is <Sneaky>? I think the question was settled by <Sargon>. Here's more on why, to me, it seems abundantly clear:

Wow, the memory is the first thing to go.

<Sneaky>

We'll know soon enough. I know it's not the same, but I see the rather pointless discussion on his player page a bit like having such a discussion on an online obituary.
