<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

<The Humorous Anteater>, <Count Chockula>

It is indeed a curious title, given that a national master title is Danny Gormally "for life" by default. If I remember correctly, I think the Soviet Union might have stripped a few players of their master title for some offence or another, but I doubt they did this Danny Gormally.

Diademas: <Count Wedgemore: <tga> That Life Master thing must be a purely American thing. We don't have that here. Does it mean Master of Life, or Master for Life? If it's the former, it would be more impressive, but a lot more difficult to obtain.>

In this particular instance, it's definitely not the former.

Nov-28-19  thegoodanarchist: All,

Yes, "Life Master" is a USCF thing, a permanent title bestowed upon a player who maintains a rating of 2200 or more over the course of (IIRC) 100 rated tournament games at classical time controls (i.e., not "rapid" or "blitz").

The awarding of this particular title was discontinued several years ago, possibly because it had fallen into disgrace based upon the actions of one of the title holders.

The "National Master" title which <Jessica fissure queen> mentioned is something that I don't know much about. However, a person with a rating of 2400 or higher who does not have a FIDE title is generally referred to as a "Senior Master" or "damn strong player" or some such.

Nov-28-19  thegoodanarchist: I am right proud of this GOTD pun, even though it hasn't (yet) been selected:

<The Humorous Anteater>

By "national" I meant the titles that national federations used to bestow on their players, before FIDE started meddling and ruined all the fun.

My favorite were the Soviet national titles because they were so hard to get. For some time, you had to win a USSR Championship in order to get the Soviet Grandmaster title. That's how <Tal> got his for example.

Even better, the full title was much grander sounding than a FIDE title.

"Honorable Master of Soviet Sport- Chess"

They even had titles for trainers.

<Alexander Koblents> got this title, "Honorable Trainer of the Soviet Union."

Sadly, here in the west we can't get "Honorable Titles," only fake "Honorary Titles" that we call "Emeritus" (Latin for "you didn't actually do anything to warrant receiving this title").

Example:

I have an "Honorary" PhD Degree from the <University of East Anglia, Knobby Stiles College of Football>.

I didn't get it by knowing anything about football, which is proven by my club playing like a bunch of sick nuns.

The College gave it to me "in honor of" my invention of the "Bluestocking Bicycle."

All I did was suggest that bluestockings should tape hard boiled eggs to their handlebars when going on cycling tours to the Lake Country...

Nov-29-19  thegoodanarchist: <Jessica Fissure Queen>

Thank you for explaining the meaning of "Emeritus". Here I've been going around for decades with a misconception in my head.

I thought "Emeritus" was Latin for "quitter".

Nov-29-19  Count Wedgemore: And I always thought "Emeritus" was Latin for being a loner, recluse of some sort.

But I was wrong. That's "Eremitus".

Nov-29-19  diceman: I always thought it was eMeritus.

Someone/thing that did something meritus on the internet.

Dec-02-19  Count Wedgemore: It is a good one, <OCF>. But it has been used before:

Anand vs Carlsen, 2013

Although I think the pun is more fitting to your chosen game than the Anand-Carlsen game.
