<Format>:

[player]-[player] [result] [# of MOVES]

==4 Different Scoring Methods==

Standard Moves Ranker (1st place-Over[3pts], 1st place-Under [7pts], Exact [10pts])

Bonus Ranker (3rd place-Over[1pts],2nd place-Over[2pts],3rd place-Under [5pts], 2nd place-Under [6pts]

Standard Moves/Bonus Ranker [Add all to together]

1st place Ranker [how many 1st place you have in Standard Moves Ranker]

For example:

<Note: Participants 3, 4, and 5 are predicated on nobody scoring an exact as Participant 2 did. If someone hits an exact, the closest score under and over will score the points for second place.>

Actual Game: [player]-[player] 0-1 45

Participant 1: [player]-[player] 1/2 45
Participant 2: [player]-[player] 0-1 45
Participant 3: [player]-[player] 0-1 44
Participant 4: [player]-[player] 0-1 43
Participant 5: [player]-[player] 0-1 46

Participant 1: No points even though 45 is correct. Results must be correct. If Result is wrong and moves # is correct...you get no points whatsoever

Participant 2: 10 pts rewarded for correct Result/moves #

Participant 3: 7 pts rewarded for closest under (1st-Under) to 45 moves

Participant 4: 6 pts rewarded for the 2nd closest under (2nd-Under) to 45 moves.

Participant 5: 3 pts rewarded closest OVER(1st-OVER) to 45 moves.

Again, the description of Participant 3, 4, and 5 are based on there being no exact prediction as made by Participant 2.

<IF> there is an exact or an under closest, the highest scoring over participant will be 2nd over. The second closest over will be 3rd over. The <ONLY> time there will be a first over is if there is no exact or under winner.

I'll respond here.

And a great move spotted by the kid. The queen sacrifice reminds me of the game Carlsen vs Topalov, 2010.

Also in this game, Topalov resigned at that point, but in this game, white also ignored the Nxd3 threat, and instead played dxe6, intending to follow up with exf7+ and then taking on e8.

And since you said the kid was 11, he may have not even been born when this game was played! He should definitely check out this game - he plays like Carlsen!

I think 1.dxe6 is best.

After something like: 1.dxe6 Nxd3 2.exf7+ Kh7 3.fxe8Q Rxe8 4.cxd3 a6

click for larger view

White has a rook and 2 knights for the queen.

If white had a c2 pawn, it would really be game over. Black will get some play against white's weak pawns, but it doesn't compensate the lost material.

I also don't like the way black looks on the f-file, the g6 and f5 squares.

White had a fine position, and would be slightly better after the normal: 1.Qe2 cxd5 2.exd5 Bd7 3.b4 Na6 4.b5 Nc5

click for larger view

but Id rather have the material.

  OhioChessFan: ** Round 8 Recap **

<GE> decided enough was enough, and surged back into the lead in 3 Rankers. <juan> holds the lead in the 4th. It's rumored they had another "innocent", cough, cough, phone call to discuss their domination of this contest after <OCF> called them out for possible collusion. They apparently thought one round was enough to dispel all suspicions.

In other news, apparently <juan> was hoping for early 4th of July fireworks, as he has been appealing to the organizers to bring some pyrotechnics to the tournament. <amw> apparently sobered up this round, but his picks were so bad he might as well have overslept again. <Pengo> has apparently appointed himself some kind of Chief Analyst, as he answered <OCF's> call to look at a game by an under 1000, but then he started demanding time on Naka's livestream and was tossed out on his ear.

6 rounds to go in our thrilling contest. Will <GE> and <juan> continue in their successful conspiracy? Will <Ali Firuzja> win over the board or here? Will <Pengo> try to appear as an analyst on Giri's channel? Stay tuned for the answers to these and many other pertinent questions.
