Nov-13-17 | | Nic Olas: Thanks for writing this new software! It makes going through games much easier on the eyes. The piece animations in particular are a big help. I am also a fan of the button controls, which make clicking through a game FAR easier on a mobile device. Brilliant work! |

 | | PhillyCheapskate: I have been getting this message for some time:"ERROR: Sorry, you already have 4 pending analyses. Please wait for some to complete before initiating new ones." I must be caught in a loop. |

 | | chessgames.com: <PhillyCheapskate: I have been getting this message for some time:"ERROR: Sorry, you already have 4 pending analyses. Please wait for some to complete before initiating new ones."> I'm so sorry about that, there was a bug in our routine which expunges "stuck" processes. You see there are a handful of ways that a Stockfish request can get stuck. One is if you give it a checkmate position and ask for analysis, which I find somewhat amusing, although it's really a bug that we'll try to fix. Another is if I am working on the software and you ask for a request at just the wrong moment there can be a communication issue between our servers. Stockfish got the answer but was unable to report it back to Chessgames, so it remains hanging in limbo for a while. Last night, that's exactly what was happening, and I see your requests coincide with changes that were made behind the scene. I'm guessing that's what happened. I just revised the software that terminates stuck processes, so you won't be having this issue very much any more. However, if you ever find yourself in that pickle even temporarily, you can take matters into your own hands by going to the Analysis Laboratory and look for the stuck evaluation. It will say something like "6.0 second evaluation (2:32:17 elapsed)". There is a link underneath it that says <"X" Terminate this analysis> — click that, and it will go away. You won't even be charged Fuel. |

It's not perfect (yet!) but we continue to work on it. |

 | | olinart: A little more information:
Upgrading to firefox 57 (latest) does not fix this problem.
I see the same hung loading problem with pgn4web, so it is not specific to Olga. The "transferring data from facebook message is seen on Firefox but not Chrome, so that is likely related to the load. |

Nov-19-17
 | | olinart: The problem appears to be fixed! Big thanks to whoever was responsible. |

Nov-24-17
 | | chessgames.com: I fixed Maurian vs Morphy, 1854 simply by renumbering the moves starting at one. I want to find a better solution because I believe doing this is not academically correct. Fortunately there are only about 10 games that fall into this category. I'm looking for a more robust fix. |
|
Nov-25-17
 | | casaschi: Your latest fix for Maurian vs Morphy, 1854 broke pgn4web for that game. If you renumber the moves in the game text, then the FEN string should end with "1" instead of "2". Otherwise you have an incorrect PGN as reported by pgn4web. |
|
Nov-26-17
 | | chessgames.com: <casaschi> Thanks for pointing that out. |

Dec-11-17 | | notyetagm: <OLGAVIEWER>
Any idea when <MOVE HIGHLIGHTING> might become available? Thanks. |
|
Dec-15-17 | | stacase: The buttons are:
[<<] [ < ] [ > ] [>>] [+]
It's not intuitive.
Buttons should be
[<<][<][Auto][>][>>]
Every now and then I forget and press [>>] for the next move. But other than that, it's way way better than it was. Steve Case Milwaukee, WI |

Dec-21-17 | | YouRang: Nice job on the new viewer.
Is there a way (when entering moves) to specify an under-promotion? I didn't see this mentioned in the 'quick start' guide. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Is there a way (when entering moves) to specify an under-promotion? I didn't see this mentioned in the 'quick start' guide.> No, sorry—analysis mode doesn't support underpromotion (at least at this time). <Any idea when MOVE HIGHLIGHTING might become available?> Do you not see the current move highlighted? It should appear light-blue with a thin dotted-line around it. |

Dec-22-17 | | zanzibar: <<chessgames> No, sorry—analysis mode doesn't support underpromotion (at least at this time).> Gotta do that. |
|
Dec-22-17
 | | chessgames.com: Not really an Olga related issue, but you can actually analyze moves with under promotions if you type them by hand with the "COMPUTER MOVE ANALYSIS" button. For example in A Reshko vs O Kaminsky, 1972 you might wonder what would happen if he took a knight instead of a bishop on the 61st move. So click the button <COMPUTER MOVE ANALYSIS> and then type in 61.a8=N to get analysis for that variation (and incredibly, ...Qa7 draws) — analysis of move 61...? In what browser do you see this? I am using Chrome Beta 64. I see <MOVE HIGHLIGHTING> **only** for variations. |
|
Jan-03-18 | | BattleSquare: can anyone help me how can i invert the parts on the board with a flip command as i am not visualizing. Thank you. |
|
Jan-03-18
 | | Annie K.: <BattleSquare> Click the Settings link to the right under the board, then you have a Flip Board option. |

|
Jan-22-18 | | diceman: The Olga viewer is excellent.
Particularly its interface with the
laboratory feature.
Two changes Id like to see:
1. The ability to play through variations with the mouse. Some can be quit long. I've actually used a real board to play out lines, while using Olga to keep place. Obviously, that's not optimal. 2. I find the pale yellow background
that pops up when there is analysis, somewhat difficult to see against the
normal white background. Particularly
when your eyes are mainly on the game.
A better color contrast would help. |
|
Feb-28-18 | | ajile: Hi cg.com. The new software is good but is there a way to see the players ratings? Or if not can this be added in a future update? |
