 | | Phony Benoni: Good grief, they're using the S-word for Detroit's weather this weekend. And I don't mean Sunny. |
|
Oct-23-12
 | | WannaBe: Stupendous?
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious? Sun-tan lotion?? |
|
Oct-23-12
 | | Phony Benoni: Snow. I realize you may not be familiar with the concept in California. |
|
Oct-23-12
 | | Phony Benoni: <Travis> Congratulations. No doubt the better team won. But I'll bet that defensive line gave you a few scary moments! |
|
Oct-23-12
 | | WannaBe: After seeing teams with their ups and downs, plus good times and bad, 100+ years curse broken, and promising youngsters playing around D.C. area again. I only have this to say: Do no give hopes, or on your team, Astros and Mets will return to glory!! |
|
| Oct-23-12 | | Travis Bickle: <Phony Benoni: <Travis> Congratulations. No doubt the better team won. But I'll bet that defensive line gave you a few scary moments!> Thanks Phony. Yeah I thought Suh knocked Cutler out for the season! The Bears didn't play very well after the first quarter. The Lions D was tough. I think The Bears really missed rookie WR Ashlon Jefferies, (broken hand), who has opened up the passing game for Brandon Marshall. P.S. Maybe it was bye week rust but The Bears were lucky to win that game. |
|
Oct-23-12
 | | keypusher: Congrats to Jim Bartle! And any other SF fans out there. |
|
Oct-23-12
 | | Phony Benoni: The key to winning four games from the Giants appears to be not winning three games first. |
|
| Oct-23-12 | | Jim Bartle: There's a sign at the Giants' park giving the number of "Splash" hits, home runs into the bay. Now they should add couple more splash hits, but these were on the field of play. I don't think Detroit will have too much trouble winning. I predict Tigers in five. |
|
Oct-23-12
 | | Phony Benoni: I'm rarely optimistic about these things, especially when I can't trust the Tigers' hitting or bullpen. I hope they win it in Detroit, because I wouldn't want to go back to San Francisco for games 6 & 7--especially without Verlander available. (He's slated for games 1&5). |
|
| Oct-23-12 | | Jim Bartle: Prince Fielder is going to have at least 10 at-bats to hit one into the bay. I'd guess he'll get one, but it's not as easy as it might seem. It's only 309 ft. down the line, and it doesn't get longer for a while, but it's a high wall. I saw Chipper Jones hit what seemed to be a monster drive to right, and it only hit halfway up the wall. As far as leftfield is concerned, nobody's ever come close to hitting the giant glove. But maybe Cabrera has a chance. |
|
Oct-23-12
 | | Phony Benoni: I wouldn't be shocked if Cabrera hits one into the Bay. He can hit them high, and has surprising power to right field. Fielder may have done it during his time playing for the Brewers. I wonder if there's a list... Oh, of course. When in doubt, check WikiPedia:

Oct-23-12
 | | WannaBe: It's really not a 'cove'... And Mayor (of SF) Ed Lee have offered the Mayor of Detroit a year's worth of Rice-O-Roni (The San Francisco Treat!) as their wager. =)) Okay, that last part was Odd Lie. |

Oct-23-12
 | | Phony Benoni: End of an era?
http://lasvegas.cbslocal.com/2012/1... They should do what baseball has done. Whichever conference wins the Pro Bowl gets to be the host team at the Super Bowl. Nothing like that home coin-flip advantage. |
|
| Oct-23-12 | | Travis Bickle: Phony, unlike Baseball's Allstar game where league players can blend into a unit pretty easily, with Pro Football the players need much more time to form a cohesive unit. That's why in Pro Bowls they play vanilla defenses with no blitzes. Football is so much more physical than baseball that to me it's just not worth ending your career to play one game especially with the size of contracts in todays NFL and players average longevity, which is about four years. |
|
Oct-23-12
 | | Phony Benoni: <Travis> You're probably right. In fact, the whole idea of All-Star games in general may have outlived its usefulness. Back in Our Day, it was a chance to see players you might not never see during the regular season. Now, with every game available for viewing, there's little need for such an exhibition. |

Oct-23-12
 | | WannaBe: Saw my friends this evening (Vicki & Steve) she said the Tigers players are/look so much bigger than the Giants players. They landed at SFO around noon, and was promptly shown to the field for workout, the Giants conducted their team workout afterwards. I will be there for Game 2, she have an extra tix, and Steve will be my 'date'; so this Dodgers fan's first World Series will be a Giants-Tigers game. Go fig...
<Phony Benoni>, this year, the Giants are only flying out the team employees to Detroit, not their spouse or special other, she is wondering what is there (to do) besides downtown casino. (I do not know which hotel they are staying at for the games, and they will be there for all 3, if necessary.) Can you give me some pointers to pass on to her? (I also 'jokingly' said, I can pass on your phone number, and that you're an highly-edu-macated librarian at an university...) I already have told her about the weather prediction/condition. And it will be stupendously supercalifragisticaidoucious sun-tan lotion weather!! So, if you want to give me your phone number... |
|
Oct-24-12
 | | Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> You're asking the wrong guy. I never go out. How else can I get in my regulation 8-16 hours a day here? Seriously, I have no idea of what to recommend. I do not go downtown unless I absolutely have to or are being dragged there by somebody. However, I should say something about safety. Detroit has a whole deserves its reputation, but she'll be downtown and that's one of the safest areas in the city. As long as she takes reasonable precautions, there shouldn't be trouble. For instance, it would not be a good idea to get drunk and walk around the streets at 4:00 AM flashing your casino winnings. Oh, if she's bringing sun-tan lotion, it had better get that brand that sets people on fire. It's going to be cold this weekend. Much like summer in San Francisco. |
|
| Oct-24-12 | | Travis Bickle: Jim Bartle & Dr Benoni since both of your teams have reached the World Series I want to congratulate each of you! Now I want you two to shake hands and behave like gentlemen during this stressful Series! You guys have been best pals for a long time and I'd hate to see it escalate to fisticuffs and one should bloody the other man's nose in pugilistic response to trash talkin' & braggadocious! Good Luck be with Ye both! Your pal,
Travis |

Oct-24-12
 | | WannaBe: Like summer in San Fran?! I'll remind her to pack some mittens, it's chilly at 71 degrees here... |
|
Oct-24-12
 | | Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> Quite seriously, be prepared for cold weather. Daytime highs around 45-50. |
|
Oct-24-12
 | | WannaBe: <P.B.> I know, I've already told her to pack very warmly... Plus I checked out the weather forecast for both cities (see my post earlier in the day). Also, I did live in South Dakota for a number of years. And know what late Oct. can be like. =)) |
|
| Oct-24-12 | | Travis Bickle: <Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> Quite seriously, be prepared for cold weather. Daytime highs around 45-50.> Us beer drinkers from Chicago would be bare chested in the bleachers catching some rays & drinking down some brewski's in that fine weather! ; P |
