Greetings, O Seeker After Knowledge! You have arrived in Dearborn, Michigan (whether you like it or not), and are reading words of wisdom from a player rated 2938--plus or minus 1000 points.
However, I've retired from serious play--not that I ever took playing chess all that seriously. You only have to look at my games to see that. These days I pursue the simple pleasures of finding games that are bizarre or just plain funny. I'd rather enjoy a game than analyze it.
For the record, my name is David Moody. This probably means nothing to you unless you're a longtime player from Michigan, though it's possible that if you attended any US Opens from 1975-1999 we might have crossed paths. Lucky you.
If you know me at all, you'll realize that most of my remarks are meant to be humorous. I do this deliberately, so that if my analysis stinks to High Heaven I can always say that I was just joking.
As you can undoubtedly tell from my sparkling wit, I'm a librarian in my spare time. Even worse, I'm a cataloger, which means I keep log books for cattle. Also, I'm not one of those extroverts who sit at the Reference Desk and help you with research. Instead, I spend all day staring at a computer screen updating and maintaining information in the library's catalog. The general public thinks Reference Librarians are dull. Reference Librarians think Catalogers are dull.
My greatest achievement in chess, other than tricking you into reading this, was probably mating with king, bishop and knight against king in a tournament game. I have to admit that this happened after an adjournment, and that I booked up like crazy before resuming. By the way, the fact I have had adjourned games shows you I've been around too long.
My funniest moment occurred when I finally got a chance to pull off a smothered mate in actual play. You know, 1.Nf7+ Kg8 2.Nh6+ Kh8 3.Qg8+ Rxg8 4.Nf7#. When I played the climactic queen check my opponent looked at the board in shocked disbelief and said, "But that's not mate! I can take the queen!"

Finally, I must confess that I once played a positional move, back around 1982. I'll try not to let that happen again.

Aug-24-15		Phony Benoni: Ty Cobb once missed all of spring training due to a contract dispute, then went out and hit .420 for the season. In fact, many though he manufactured these disputes just to skip spring training. Don't tell me about old-timers playing for the love of the game. If Cobb and Ruth and quite a few other old-time superstars were around today, they would have high-powered agents, squeeze every million out of free agency, and be in frequent violation of the league's drug policy.

Or does that mean you are going to prepare for the regular season just 'walk' through the play book?> As I understand it, the quarterback generally wears a red jersey during scrimmages in training camp, meaning he is not to be hit. I do wonder how much contact there is in practice or training camp. On one hand they need to practice hitting and being hit. On the other hand that raises the possibility of injury. When I was a kid 49ers training camp was just a few miles away, and I went quite a bit, but usually early during camp. There was certainly plenty of full contact, as they were trying to choose the roster. I think once the team was determined there was less full contact. The Niners had a pre- preseason intrasquad scrimmage at my high school every year. It was played as a regular game, normal blocking and tackling.

Aug-24-15		Phony Benoni: Well, Harry, it's looking like a special year for the Cubs as they go from WannaBe Watch to Glorious Victory. At least I'll have something to do in October. Tigers play a make-up game in Cincy and send Buck Farmer to the mound. They'd be better off with Ed Farmer, or even Buck Owens. I probably won't even follow the game.

Aug-25-15		Phony Benoni: Well, the Tigers did quite well with Bucky Ball for a while, building a 5-0 lead. But then the bullpen came in and the lights went out, Cincy scoring 10 in the sixth inning.

Aug-25-15		Jim Bartle: Yes, but I see Farmer was getting hammered in the sixth inning, giving up two homers. Of course I wasn't watching, so I didn't see what his pitches looked like, but three runs after five shutout innings normally wouldn't be enough to take a pitcher out.

Aug-25-15		Penguincw: Ugh, Yankees win 1-0 over Houston, the AL East is tied again. :\| These 2 teams are #1 and #3 in the league when it comes to homeruns, but not much firepower in general today. But then again, when Toronto visited New York, they "only" outscored them 10-1 (top 2 in the league in runs scored).

Aug-25-15		Penguincw: Yeah, Yankees lost 15-1, so Toronto needed to take advantage and win, and they did, rallying for a 6-5 win. Toronto leads the division by a game, magic number at 38!

Aaron Rogers have come out and claim that practices are not necessary as they are meaningless. And should cut back to do-away with practices. Instead, they should install Xbox in all practice facility and just run the playbooks on the computers.

But from what I know, at least three of them (Blair, Brooks Robinson and Belanger) were exceptional fielders, and I believe the others were quite good, with the possible exception of Powell.
