 | | Phony Benoni: It's all settled. My research proves the Dodgers will win it all. Currently, the IS Secretary pf State is John Kerry from Massachusetts. The only other SOS from Massachusetts in the MLB Era was Christian Herter, who filled the post during the World Series in 1959 (Dodgers) and 1960 (Pirates). With the Pirates' elimination, the Dodgers are now a sure winner. At least until I do some more research tomorrow. |

 | | WannaBe: In other sporting news, Chicago 'Hawks hosted NY Rangers and had their banner raising ceremony. All 5 fans in the arena was glued to their iPhone watching MLBTV app. No one cared that 'Hawks lost. |

 | | WannaBe: Going back to what <Jim Bartle> posted regarding stats and tweets. ESPN SportsCenter just posted this: <What a gem from Jake Arrieta. He becomes 1st pitcher in postseason history to pitch shutout with 11 K and 0 BB.> I am surprised they didn't mention the 2 HBP he threw and the one HBP he received. |
| Oct-08-15 | | Jim Bartle: Right. Hitting two batters doesn't count...
I can't figure out what makes Arrieta so special, at least tonight. He threw strikes but it looked like the Pirates were just missing hittable pitches. At the end of his no-hitter the ball was just diving (or staying straight) and the batters had no chance. |
| Oct-08-15 | | Jim Bartle: For the first time ever both home teams in the wild card games were shut out by bearded pitchers pitching for teams which haven't won the World Series since 1908. |
Oct-08-15
 | | Phony Benoni: <JB> That's kind of silly. All pitchers have beards. Some just don't shave them. |
| Oct-08-15 | | Jim Bartle: Did Bob Feller have a beard when he reached the majors? David Clyde? Joe Nuxhall? |

 | | WannaBe: From ESPN MLB:
<David Price and the Blue Jays host the Rangers in Game 1 of the ALDS at 3:37 p.m. ET. He is 0-5 in 5 career postseason starts, the only pitcher in history to lose each of his first 5 career postseason starts.> |
| Oct-08-15 | | Jim Bartle: The key word is "starts." He pitched well in relief in 2008 and won a game. |

 | | WannaBe: Thank you, ESPN.
<The roof at Rogers Centre is closed a half hour before first pitch. Jays are 38-14 this season when it's open, 11-14 when closed, 0-4 when both open and closed at some point.> |
| Oct-08-15 | | Jim Bartle: Donaldson/Bautista/Encarnacion/Tulowitzki. That's a heck of a lineup. |

 | | Penguincw: < <David Price and the Blue Jays host the Rangers in Game 1 of the ALDS at 3:37 p.m. ET. He is 0-5 in 5 career postseason starts, the only pitcher in history to lose each of his first 5 career postseason starts.> >Ouch, I think Kershaw might be 0-5. Oh wait, he won 1 game vs. Atlanta. < <The roof at Rogers Centre is closed a half hour before first pitch. Jays are 38-14 this season when it's open, 11-14 when closed, 0-4 when both open and closed at some point.> > Okay, I can understand MLB choosing what time and the date the game can be, but honestly, why should they control when the roof is open/closed? Shouldn't that be up to the Blue Jays? Like, it's home-field advantage. The home team should use be able to use everything to their advantage, that's fair and within the rules of course (ex. turning on the A/C when the visiting team is batting to make the balls go less far isn't fair, but keeping the roof open the whole time, unless it starts raining of course). While on the topic of rainouts, I absolutely hated them. I remember when I actually <did> have the Sportsnet Ontario (TV channel), watching the Jays play would be something that can make my day, until of course, they're on the road, and it's a rainout. For every rainout, the home team should forfeit the game... |
| Oct-08-15 | | Jim Bartle: Bill Veeck moved the fences in and out every half inning. |
Oct-08-15
 | | Penguincw: Texas strikes first, as they led 2-0 in the middle of the 3rd. |
Oct-08-15
 | | WannaBe: Yeah, but Veeck moved it out when the <HOME> team is batting. =)) |
Oct-08-15
 | | Penguincw: Looks like Beltre has to leave the game! Should give the Jays a chance now, but they're already down 4-1. FTR: When the Leafs and Raptors first made the playoffs in years, they lost G1 too, and they also both lost G7, in a pretty sad way (blowing a 4-1 lead and getting the final shot blocked, respectively). Something tells me that in G5, a Rangers outfielder will throw out the tying run with 2 outs for the Jays, in the bottom of the 9th... (you can tell I like jinxing things)
But regarding Beltre, one thing Price is really good at vs. RHB, is pitching inside. One thing Beltre is good at, hitting pitches inside... |

 | | Penguincw: It's a great time to play third base for a postseason team! But 4-3 Jays trail! |
Oct-08-15
 | | WannaBe: Dodgers have placed Vin Scully on the DL for the remainder of the season. |
Oct-08-15
 | | WannaBe: J. Bautista have left the game... |
Oct-08-15
 | | WannaBe: You can now make that 0-6 when he starts a post-season game. |
Oct-08-15
 | | WannaBe: Alright, here is what I'd do to solve the D. Price 0-6 starter problem. Have him warm up as usual. BUT! Play him at 1st base, and have the 1st baseman throws the 1st pitch into the ground for a ball, or waaaaaaay outside. No one is on base anyway, just don't hit the batter. (Don't want to risk a lead-off HR, either...) Then you swap D. Price/1st baseman. He did not start the game, hence, problem solved. |
| Oct-08-15 | | Jim Bartle: Brilliant! But I think the rule is a pitcher must pitch to one complete batter. |
Oct-08-15
 | | WannaBe: So what's the problem?! Is the batter missing a limb? How is he not complete? Missing an eye? Pinkie? |
