 | | Phony Benoni: This Modern Generation! When that happened to me, I reading a paperback copy of "The Two Towers" by Tolkien. But at least it was between innings! We had seats near the bullpen. A wamu-u; pitch got away and smashed into the book, totally destroying its resale value. My sister was distraught. "You could have had a ball! You could have had a ball!" I held up the mangled book. "Thing would have broken my hands!" "You could have had a ball!" |

 | | Penguincw: Meanwhile, in the KC-TB game, Danny Duffy threw 7 innings of no-hit ball (no-hitter has been broken up). In the MIN-CLE game, rookie Max Kepler has hit 3 homeruns on the game, and should get one more chance for 4. Don't think anyone has ever done it in their rookie year. |

 | | WannaBe: Really too bad, that SFG didn't trade my personal fav Matt Duffy to KC, else Royals would have two Duffs. When I was still living in Long Beach, I got to see Duffy playing for California State University at Long Beach (a.k.a. Dirtbags) When he got to the Bigs with Giants, he became my fav, even though being a Dodgers fan, I dislike Giants. I always wished Duffy would go 4-4 with 2 RBIs and Giants would lose 5-3. Alas, Matt is now at Tampa Bay. Matt and Longoria can chew the fat/bat about their playing days at Long Beach State. Even though they missed playing for the same team by about 6 years. Long Beach, as of 2014, holds the record for most alums that have played in the Bigs (45). One of the very first Long Beach State alum, pitcher named Gabe Gonzales http://www.baseball-reference.com/p... He and I went to the same Jr. High, High school, and he got a cup of coffee with Marlins. Wonder what he's doing now. |

| Aug-01-16 | | Party Animal: Yo Phony, The Cubs acquired reliever Joe Smith from The Angels. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport... |
| Aug-01-16 | | Party Animal: <WannaBe> What's the deal with Yasiel Puig being demoted? |
Aug-01-16
 | | saffuna: The Dodgers picked up Reddick from the A's and think he's a better player. Puig has a world of talent, but he's hitting .260 with little power. |
| Aug-01-16 | | Party Animal: Thx Saffy. |
Aug-01-16
 | | WannaBe: <Party Animal> What <saffuna> posted, plus Puig hasn't grown up to match the age on his drivers' license. |
Aug-01-16
 | | WannaBe: <saffuna> NYM & NYY, Great game. Don't go to sleep early. You just may see a walk-off 3-9-8-1-3-2-6-5-2 TP. |
| Aug-01-16 | | Party Animal: Thx Mr Bunny. |
Aug-02-16
 | | WannaBe: Toronto's going 14!! Possibly more, double-header Monday/Tuesday?? |
Aug-02-16
 | | Penguincw: This is awkward. At the trade deadline, Jays acquired Scott Feldman from the Astros, and tonight, he pitched against his former team, throws 4 pitches, Jays lose. :( Of course, tough luck for the Jays to play back-to-back 12+ inning games, and lose both of them. Also worth noting the O's and 'Stros do have the 2 bullpens with the lowest ERA in the AL. ---
In other news, Yankees come back to beat the Mets. I always wondered how it felt for cities with 2 MLB teams within them (or any sport for that matter). Like for instance, let's say the Mets host the Yankees. Yankees take the lead, and half the stadium is cheering (must be pretty awkward for the home players, as it removes that feeling of playing at home). Must be frustrating too for fans, 'cause imagine if a Mets fan couldn't get tickets to the game 'cause a Yankees fan got them... (I think you get what I'm trying to say) |
Aug-02-16
 | | WannaBe: <Penguincw> There's always (a) ticket. If the regular team site's sold out, one can try Stubhub or CheapSeats. If the secondary markets are sold out, there's always the ol' fashioned scalpers outside the stadium. When there's a will, there's a way. |
Aug-02-16
 | | saffuna: Are there many things more dispiriting in baseball than getting thrown out at home attempting an inside-the-parker with no outs. You get nothing, just an out. That 's what Granderson tried for the Yankees last night. Why try for home with no outs unless it's a stroll home? |
Aug-02-16
 | | Phony Benoni: Or take this situation. Runner on second. Batter hits fly to outfield that may or may not e caught. If runner tags up, he won't be able to score if the ball drops. If he goes halfway, he won't be able to tag and got to third if the ball is caught. Which should he do? A Tigers announcer game a "rule" the other day that I'd never heard but makes a lot of sense. With none out, you tag to be sure of getting to third with one out. With one out go halfway and try to score, since there is less advantage to being on third with two outs. |
Aug-02-16
 | | saffuna: Also, don't pay attention to what the infielders are doing. (Lonnie Smith, 1991 World Series.) |
Aug-02-16
 | | Phony Benoni: Sur, <Party Animal>, sure. What's his real name? |
| Aug-02-16 | | Party Animal: Phony I can't say because it would be a breach of his Warner Brothers contract. ; P |
| Aug-02-16 | | Party Animal: I can say his first name is Daffy. ; P |
Aug-02-16
 | | Phony Benoni: Ah! Then his last name must be du Maurier. |
Aug-02-16
 | | saffuna: I thought it was Dean. |
Aug-02-16
 | | WannaBe: Both SFG and CLE are heavy, heavy favourites today, lines are -250 and -200. Both teams are currently losing, 6-1 and 4-0.
Keep an eye on that TEX/BAL game. |
Aug-02-16
 | | WannaBe: Never mind that game in BAL, look at the game in Houston, Toronto have not gotten a hit, yet. Granted, it's only the second inning. =)) |
Aug-02-16
 | | WannaBe: Deeeee-Troit putting on a serious hurt on ChiSox. Break up them Tigers!! Phillies are making cheese-steak sandwiches out of SFG. Breaks my heart. No really. =)) |
