Is <Abdel Irada> asking for censorship?
My vote should be counted. He can refuse the award if he should get one. |
|
Jan-06-15 | | Abdel Irada: <Sneaky: I used up my three-pun nominations but somebody really needs to toss another nomination the way of "The Lion, the Vish, and the Ward Robbed". Had I remembered that one I would have voted for it myself.> Good grief. I'd completely forgotten that one.
If I may, and with apologies for any confusion it may cause, I'd like to recast my <Best/Worst Pun> nomination for "The Lion, the Vish, and the Ward Robbed." ∞ |
|
Jan-06-15 | | Abdel Irada: Thank you, <1d410>, but I really don't merit those nominations. There are so many members here who have really earned these honors that I would feel ungrateful for their contributions if I accepted any nomination without pointing this out. ∞ |

Jan-07-15 | | 1d410: <Abdel Irada> Thanks, but I felt like sticking behind you for the nominations because even if they are sarcastic I think there still may be much merit. |

Jan-07-15
 | | Annie K.: Update tomorrow - not enough progress to justify the disruption yet. :) I'll add a second nomination for Best Post to <visayanbraindoctor> for Anand - Carlsen World Championship (2013) - excellent choice! |
|
Jan-07-15 | | Abdel Irada: I agree, <Annie>.
In fact, I would go so far as to say that almost all of <vbd>'s posts are eminently worth reading. To select a single post from all the fora on this site as "best" is arguably inherently silly, because it asks us, in effect, to rank Chartres Cathedral, the Taj Mahal and the complete works of William Shakespeare and choose one as superior to all the others. At best, we will be making a selection based on solely subjective criteria, from among those posts we have seen and remember, when there are literally thousands that merit our praise. I'm not saying we shouldn't do it, but in a way it is bound to be futile, in that we cannot say that Shakespeare is superior to the Taj Mahal or vice-versa; to pick one is to relegate the other to an "also ran" status that it does not merit. ∞ |

 | | HeMateMe: <I'll add a second nomination for Best Post to <visayanbraindoctor> for Anand - Carlsen World Championship (2013) - excellent choice!> unfortunately it's the wrong year. I thought I was looking at the 2014 match, when it was the <2013> match on the screen. Let me try again, nominating: A nice post detailing the 6 Magnus Carlsen losses of 2014: "tranquilsimplicity" <Carlsen vs Anand, 2014> Pre-world championship match analysis by Kinghunt:
<Carlsen-Anand World Championship (2014)> |

Jan-08-15
 | | Annie K.: <HeMateMe> The <post> is not the wrong year - it was posted in November 2014. This is the year it's nominatable, and I still nominate it. :) |
|
Jan-08-15 | | Eyal: If possible, I would like to reject my nomination for Best Analysis / Analyst. I think that some inertia is at work here:-) I actually stopped posting on this site on a regular basis in mid-2013 (as I explained in my forum, I'm now devoting most of my "chess time" to writing a chess blog [http://debuzzer.com/segal]) – and most of the little I did post since then isn't even analysis; during 2014 I posted what may be called analysis maybe 2 or 3 times. So I'm sure there are active posters who are more deserving than me in this category. |
|
Jan-08-15 | | Eyal: While I'm here, I'll add a second nomination for Best Game to Caruana vs Aronian, 2014, a real positional masterpiece by Caruana. |
|
Jan-08-15 | | Abdel Irada: <Eyal>: Cool site, but you may want to correct the link; with the closing bracket, it returns a 404. ∞ |
|
Jan-08-15
 | | Annie K.: I'll post a tally when I get home, but meanwhile I would like to urge everybody to go look at the avatars of the people nominated for the avatars category, and please give second nominations to those you like! There are some very deserving candidates in that once-nominated list. :) |

 | | Annie K.: <HeMateMe> we only have 3 nominations in any category, and you already nominated <scutigera> (great avatar, btw!) and <al wazir> yesterday. Please choose which 3 of your 5 nominations you would like to keep. Also, given that the <visayanbraindoctor> post you nominated yesterday is actually the correct year, do you still want to discard that nomination? |
|
Jan-08-15 | | 1d410: Since <Abdel> doesn't want to get voted for I also nominate <keypusher> for funniest poster. |

 | | Annie K.: The Baron <Vladimir> Harkonnen?! =) Whoah, great username! In fact, I nominate <Baron Harkonnen> for best username. :) |
|
Jan-08-15 | | M.Hassan: I nominate:
<TheaN> for best analysis and analyses |

Jan-08-15 | | nazgulord: I nominate:

Jan-08-15 | | FairyPromotion: Here are some nominations. Asterisk indicates a new nomination, so if any of you agree with the candidate, please add the second nomination: 1. Best Avatar
<technical draw>, <perfidious>*, <Phony Benoni>* 2. Best Username
<notyetagm>, <MatingNet>, <SetNoEscapeOn>* 3. Most Helpful
<Annie K>, <chancho>, <zanzibar> 5. Funniest Poster

<Phony Benoni> - Game Collection: Game of the Day 2014 <notyetagm> - Game Collection: *FORCE* your opponent to line up his pieces! <Chnebelgrind> - Game Collection: best of 2014 * 10. Most Informed
<AylerKupp>, <jessicafischerqueen>, <RandomVisitor> 11. Best Historian
<SetNoEscapeOn>, <SwitchingQuylthulg>, <alexmagnus> 12. Best/Worst Pun of the Year
<Cebalo 13> - M Cebalo vs Vasiukov, 2014, <g2, Joy of Man's Desiring> - Boleslavsky vs Ufimtsev, 1944, <I Am the One Who Naks> - Gelfand vs Nakamura, 2010 * 13. Player of the Year
Alexander Grischuk, Veselin Topalov,
Richard Rapport * P.S.: I would especially ask for a second nomination for Rapport as Player of the Year. While I don't think he should win, he definitely deserves to be a candidate, because he always found a way to get us excited. Bird Openings, King's Gambits, Na3 Sicilians, you name them. He even had a win with Budapest Defense against Gelfand, and when drew his first ever game against a 2800+ player (with black against Aronian) he called it a boring game. |
|
Jan-08-15 | | FairyPromotion: 4. Best Post:
<AylerKupp> - Norway Chess Tournament (2014) * <AylerKupp: <<diceman> The Norwegians have fixed chess!>Naaah, it's just as broken as ever.>
=============
<offramp> - Garry Kasparov * <offramp: He was once world chess champion. But he gave up chess. He wanted to be President of Russia. He has given up on that idea.
Then he wanted to be President of FIDÉ.
That was never going to happen!
Now he is trying to become Assistant Deputy Dog-Catcher for East Hackensack, Bollville, Arkansas, Nevada. And I urge you all to vote for him.
Send your votes to Number 19, West 19th Street, 1919 Ilyumzhimov Boulevard, Hackenack, NA 19991.> ==============
Also my previous nomination was:
<Phony Benoni> - Shirov vs S Sulskis, 2014 <Phony Benoni: Alas, before the post mortem the gods have placed the game.> So simple, yet so awesome.
I believe all 3 deserve second nominations. |
|
Jan-08-15
 | | Annie K.: I give <Phony Benoni> - Shirov vs S Sulskis, 2014 a second nomination for Best Post. Classic. :) |
