Dec-09-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

TheAlchemist: White played a seemingly clever sacrifice, but the refutation on move 25 was simply stunning

TheAlchemist: <goodevans: Will we have another Milan-based pun tomorrow when its two big football teams face each other in the Champions League Semi-Final? https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsl... It's a huge reach, but you could call it even timelier. Unfortunately Slovaks call it ...

TheAlchemist: I also forgot to add that both of those are masculine forms, the feminine one would be "šahistka". I was a bit too fast with the reply.

TheAlchemist: <Where is my mind> Thanks! I do my best, but it's surprising to say the least.
Jan-17-10  Travis Bickle: Professor Uros I recently was going through some games and I seen your comment on a Karpov game about a deflection sacrifice. What exactly is this tactic?
Jan-31-10  Travis Bickle: Professor Uros I hope I didn't offend you as I said I liked only 2 of the 9 Oasis songs you took the time to post. I always appreciate your contributions to my site! I probably should give the songs another listen as sometimes it takes a liitle time to get into an artist or band. Although I must add 1 thing that turns me off about Oasis is something I heard Paul McCartney say about them. Paul had stated that he liked Oasis, but Macca said a member of the band later made the comment that Oasis was better than The Beatles!?
Feb-05-10  Travis Bickle: <TheAlchemist: <Travis> Is that the "I try to get up everyday" one?> Professor to be honest I don't remember LOL! I've been busy selecting a Hendrix playlist. Come have a listen Professor Uros. ; P

TheAlchemist: Hello, everybody! The 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver are officially under way, unfortunately in the wake of a tragic accident by the Georgian Nodar Kumaritashvili in the luge. Sad that it had to come to that, since the course was deemed dangerous even before that, with many accidents in training, even the double Olympic champion Armin Zoeggeler had one. I don't know what they'll do about it, I'm not sure how they could increase the safety in such a short time and the competition should be cancelled in my opinion (at least on that course), but I seriously doubt it. The show must go on, right?

Anyway, if anyone has any comments, feel free to share.

SwitchingQuylthulg: Even if the way to do so may not be readily clear, safety can almost always be increased somehow if you have enough money. The problem is that Winter Olympics already take huge amounts of money, particularly considering what you get in return. Vancouver, for example, had to build and/or improve lots of venues and facilities that are probably only really going to get any money back this once. On the other hand, they <will> get money back this once, provided the show doesn't actually stop going on. (Indeed, they may get slightly more money back now as public awareness of the sport of luge has been increased.)
Feb-13-10  chessmoron: Sven Kramer is a monster! Just blew the American, Shani Davis away in the 5000m speed skating.
Feb-13-10  dakgootje: <Sven Kramer is a monster! Just blew the American, Shani Davis away in the 5000m speed skating.> Not really surprising since Davis' field of expertise is much more in the 1000 and 1500. Really had expected more from Chad Hedrick though.
Feb-14-10  chessmoron: Good riddance. Martina SABLIKOVA from the ladies' 3000m speed skating shed 8 seconds and it is in the lead behind 4 seconds.
Feb-14-10  chessmoron: I going to kill NBC heads for missing live action of the Pairs Short Program where ZHAO Hongbo/Shen Xue flawless skate.
Feb-15-10  nescio: <chessmoron: the Pairs Short Program where ZHAO Hongbo/Shen Xue flawless skate>

Well, I suppose it's all over the internet now, so there really was no need to watch it live. I had no trouble finding it and it was indeed very beautiful.

Feb-15-10  chessmoron: Pairs skating is about to start. Very exciting.

TheAlchemist: <valiant> Hi! Yes, and though it was determined fully by televoting, where it won with a landslide, it still received mixed reviews and many were unhappy :-)

I'm not too sure about it, honestly, maybe the idea isn't bad (though there have been much better songs in this "style"), but the result isn't too good and probably won't stand out too much. My main concern is that the "rockers" are far from that and other audiences will pick up on it. I think it will be another poor result, but who wants to win in times of recession? :-)
