TheAlchemist: Thank you, you too!

Dec-09-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

   Oct-28-23 D Lazavik vs Wojtaszek, 2023 (replies)

TheAlchemist: White played a seemingly clever sacrifice, but the refutation on move 25 was simply stunning

   May-09-23 M Kolesar vs O Sikorova, 1998 (replies)

TheAlchemist: <goodevans: Will we have another Milan-based pun tomorrow when its two big football teams face each other in the Champions League Semi-Final? https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsl... It's a huge reach, but you could call it even timelier. Unfortunately Slovaks call it ...

Apr-30-23 Nepomniachtchi vs Ding Liren, 2023 (replies)

TheAlchemist: Amazing, what a finish, what a match. Congratulations, Ding!

   Nov-08-22 D Citra vs R Vaishali, 2016 (replies)

TheAlchemist: Great pun!

   Aug-08-22 European Team Championship (2001)

TheAlchemist: I'd have to dig out contemporary magazines to be sure, but I think it said Black simply left the playing hall and never returned, leaving everyone puzzled (teammates included).

   Jun-26-22 David Moody (replies)

TheAlchemist: Terrible news. Rest in peace, PB.

   Oct-17-21 Keres vs A Sakovski, 1936 (replies)

TheAlchemist: I also forgot to add that both of those are masculine forms, the feminine one would be "šahistka". I was a bit too fast with the reply.

   May-25-21 A Ilyin-Zhenevsky vs A Model, 1932 (replies)

I prefer the 8 minute version, but couldn't find it since it's apparently a popular target for removal.

OhioChessFan: I understand your reluctance to clean up Memorable Quotes. I'd have come here in a day or two to ask you to do it, maybe. I put it off a while hoping it would stop on its own. Anyway, remember this:

"There's a time and a place for everything."

Jul-12-14  Shams: Please delete all the garbage on <MQ>.

OhioChessFan: I think you need to block both of them.

TheAlchemist: I guess this tactic of waiting for things to blow over and cleaning up discretely afterwards isn't really working anymore. I probably should be more proactive but it seems too draconian to ban someone. I don't know, we'll see, maybe as a last resort when I've had enough.
Jul-13-14  hms123: <TheAlchemist>
You are on the right track. Just delete further violations on the <MQ> page as they occur without comment.
Jul-13-14  Shams: <it seems too draconian to ban someone.>

Mark is essentially asking to be banned. You should grant his request.

Jul-13-14  MarkFinan: Kkderek.. Once again acting like a baby and running to someone else. They're YOUR dumb quotes (and that guy who thinks American "soccer" is better than the English!) I don't ask you to follow me there defending them.

Can you seriously not see what I'm getting at? Post as many as my dumb quotes there as you like, because I won't run like a temperamental little child defending them! Unless they're out of context lol.

Jul-13-14  Everyone: <Exactly!
Jul-23-14  MarkFinan: It is moderated. If you don't say silly things I'll have nothing to quote you on, but I aren't holding my breath.

You're doing a great job MQ. "Don't let this turnip fool you for the turning is easily fooled "- Pele

Jul-23-14  MarkFinan: Uros.. My friend. My old old pal. Robert James Fischer or Kasparov?

TheAlchemist: Hey! It may be the late time, but I don't really understand the question, it's the link that puzzles me.

TheAlchemist: <KKDEREK> There. Sorry for the bit of inactivity, but as I've nothing constructive to say otherwise on the site I sometimes prefer not to visit at all, since what is more pathetic than just loggin in, deleting a few posts (thus fullfilling my cleanup duty) and logging out? It's better to pretend I've been busy :-)

<<<<<>>>>>

Will this time the age old grudge finally be put to rest? Will our two heroes smoke a peace pipe? Or will they, um, not? Stay tuned. :-)

Jul-23-14  MarkFinan: I agree. Lol, I'll reach my point another time, but I just wanted to say that I know you're an alright bloke and I feel bad putting you in a situation, when even though I'm RIGHT I still don't like it when others get involved!? Or something! 😉

So... Delete my posts on the MQ forum if you like? Leave his, I just don't care, I just don't want *decent* folk involved in my @#$%. ✌

Jul-23-14  MarkFinan: Boss.. I just realised that the Fischer link goes back to page 711 or something, I didn't know that I was just asking a question... And trying to be nice and apologise for BBDerek's insults. Well how is it my fault if he says crazy stuff? Lol #PeaceInTheMQstrip. ;-)

TheAlchemist: Thanks. Look, if there's a point you wanted to make, there may be other ways, perhaps? You noticed that what you were doing ended up backfiring (sort of) every time, that's why I was angry and disappointed to see it repeat time and again.

I'm not sure the problem was with the fact you tried to prove them wrong or pointed out their mistakes but the way you went about it. Blunt speak is one thing but insults really were uncalled for (from both sides).

Everybody is welcome to MQ but you saw what happens when things get out of control and on that one page I was really trying to avoid it. So maybe you don't have to post everything? Maybe be more selective, so that people don't get the impression you're deliberately targeting them.

I know it's the internet and this is the norm, in this regard cg.com is, even with its low points, still a bastion of rationality and civility :-)

Jul-24-14  MarkFinan: It's not even one of your dumb quotes!!! What does it have to do with you?? Get a life Del boy LOL 😄
Jul-25-14  MarkFinan: <That's the worst type of loon. The one that thinks he's <not> a loon. Ask <the alchemist>.>

Boss.. I just wanted to run this up the flagpole with you and see if you're cool with it. Can I post the above on the MQ page please?? It's just brilliant, it's the post of one very angry confused man. Btw, he posted one of my tweets (not chessgames posts! ) on the MQ page before deleting it yesterday... Can I repost that too? That one is of course a joke ,-)

Aug-01-14  MarkFinan: Uros.. No problem bro, no arguments from me. I deserve it, but what's coming is even more deserved. He'll see 😄😄
Sep-02-14  Dr. J: Another for your Brilliancies by Unknowns F Parr vs G Wheatcroft, 1938 Nice game.

Also: A Nicifor vs E Kramer, 1922

TheAlchemist: Thanks! I would say great finds but I'm actually baffled I didn't include them, since I have commented on the first and remember going through the second. Whatever, it's rectified now.
Oct-02-14  Dr. J: G Idigoras vs Panno, 1955 - absolutely wonderful positional sac.

Max Weiss vs W Pollock, 1889 - admittedly marginal on the 'incognitivity', but it wouldn't be the only one
