Feb-10-07  chessmoron: <Rocafella> Qxd4 after that so it's a move we should consider.
Feb-10-07  Rocafella: Losing was a wrong word to use, I just think Qb6 creates a bit too much immediate action

jessicafischerqueen: I'm not liking any early Queen exchange myself... Still haven't gotten to any real work on our game today, tho.

  jessicafischerqueen: Yeesh I meant Nf6, not Nf3 what a retard I am.
Feb-10-07  chessmoron: <jessica> Yes it might exchange queens but I doubt that they will, simply Bd3. Qb6 does create a double pawn for White which is quite weak.
Feb-10-07  Swapmeet: I don't think white would opt for the queen exchange.

looks ok for us IMO, with threats on g4 and c2.

jessicafischerqueen: <Wilson> interesting... You may well be right. They have played only "quiet" moves so far.

And Qb6 more active than Nf6, no doubt. I have to do some actual work first before posting any kind of potentially useful opinion, however.

(great game today man, thanks so much!)

jessicafischerqueen: <Swapmeet> interesting FEN there. It looks better for Black to my "eye," it's true.

They can't defend both pawns as you point out.

Feb-10-07  Swapmeet: More likely would be 10.Bd3, which doesn't look like a fun position for us. Maybe I'm wrong but white just looks better with the open h-file.

jessicafischerqueen: I think we should factor what to do with our Dark Square Bishop, and when, into our ideas sooner rather than later...
Feb-10-07  TTLump: The Chessworld Masters collection has 9 games from the current position, 3 for White, 5 for Black and one draw.

Most of the games seem to be of high quality, 5 of the games involving at least one player with higher than 2500 rating.

In 7 of the games, black played 8...Nf6 (including ALL three of the White wins). In the other two games, Black won with 8...Qb6 and 8...Nge5

One of the most interesting of the lot was the draw, here is the PGN:

Nepomniachtchi was rated 2520

Popov was rated 2578

jessicafischerqueen: KK I've played through all the games posted in our forum from our present position.

At this point, I now favor 8. ...Qb6 as our most promising of our three candidate moves.

<Swapmeet> re: 8. ...Qb6 to 10.Bd3:

Here's a game from <TTLump> with a continuation from there:

<Alexsieva-Petrenko>

8. ...Qb6 9.hxg4 Qxd4 10.Bd3 e6 11.Be3 Qb4 12.Qd2 Ne5 leading to this:

I like this position- our aggressive active pieces more than compensates for their lead in development. I think the open H file is potentially good for white <Marco> but I think the doubled pawn offsets that <Wilson>.

Plus, play through the rest of the game everyone. Black wins.

jessicafischerqueen: Plus, I think <Marco's> right about g6 being a dubious square for our "wandering Knight."

And I constitutionally don't like retreating. Even tho my first (instinct) reaction was Nf6.

At this point, I'm quite a bit in favor of Qb6. Convince me otherwise!!

jessicafischerqueen: Brief notes on continuation from FEN position <Alexsieva-Petrenko>

Black's Queen is very, very active and Cuz of open H file White has to castle long.

The Black Queen and a pawn advance makes things VERY awkward for White, whose king is forced to wander all the way over to h2, surrendering loads of tempi...

Black trades down easily to a favorable endgame a pawn up, quickly two pawns up and that's it for White.

So, Unless I post otherwise,
<Jess votes 8. ...Qb6>

I just think we should continue to play the most aggressive moves possible- so long as they are sound-- given how conservative MFO is playing.

Feb-11-07  hitman84: <Swapmeet>'s suggestion of Qb6 is very interesting!

http://www.letsplaychess.com/chessc... Thanks for the link <TTLump> I'll look into this game.

jessicafischerqueen: Put another way-- I think we should play like <rabid Badgers> who have been tutored since they were cubs by <Gary Kasparov>

jessicafischerqueen: G'day <Hitman> I just finished my evening's analysis here.

<Wilson> <Jess> <Swapmeet> so far who are leaning to Qb6.

Actually, I've leaned so far that way that I've actually toppled over and voted!

Feb-11-07  hitman84: < Swapmeet: I don't think white would opt for the queen exchange.

8...Qb6 9.hxg4 Qxd4 10.Qxd4 Nxd4 >

Does'nt white lose the g4 pawn ?

It looks like the worst movie ever made, but I'm gonna watch it just the same!! I'll check in before I hit the sack to see your analysis... look forward to it.
