Dec-09-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

Feb-26-07  Marco65: <TheAlchemist> I couldn't believe in Andreikin - Lugovoi White didn't go for the attack you showed us if it were so effective. Looking at it, I think (after 12...O-O 13.Rg1 Qc7 14.h5) 14...b5? is a mistake. Black can play 14...Nde5 15.f4 Nxd4 16.Bxd4 Nc6 17.g6 Nxd4 18.gxh7+ Kxh7 19.Qxd4 Bf6 parring the attack. Can White improve on that?

So far ...O-O seems playble to me, but risky. We have to be very precise.

TheAlchemist: <Marco> As I said, it likely contained many holes, so I simply killed that message. I found an improvement in my previous post, which seems adequate. Sometimes it takes time for me to shift from my reckless mode into a more reasonable one. Sorry.
Feb-26-07  hitman84: Guys did you check out the new opening explorer features ? Really cool!

There are so many games arising form the above position..

TheAlchemist: <hitman> That position is with White to move, while here it's our move (the tempo you were talking about). Because otherwise, the stats are overwhelmingly in white's favour.
Feb-26-07  hitman84: umm.. Bug :)
Feb-26-07  hitman84: Now its alright you need to add "b" at the end of the fen.

Opening Explorer

Feb-26-07  chessmoron: <hitman84> [fen] b - -, right?

  TheAlchemist: Ok, in the line 12...O-O 13.Qd2 we could try 13...Nxd4 14.Bxd4 b5 15.O-O-O Bb7 16.Bg2 (or f3, protecting e4) b4...

<Marco> In your line, 12...O-O 13.Rg1 Nde5 14.f4 Nxd4 15.Bxd4 Nc6 16.Be3 may be played by white instead (after all, they've played it twice already), 16...b5 and Bb7.

I think I now see the manoeuvre Nxd4-b5 is good for us, it aids our development and our queenside expansion, without having to move the Q to c7 first.

Ok, finally, they could decide on 12...O-O 13.f4 and here I'm again not sure how to continue, probably again with Nxd4 follwed by b5?

Feb-26-07  Marco65: <TheAlchemist> <12...O-O 13.Rg1 Qc7 14.h5 b5 15.g6 hxg6 16.hxg6 Nde5> I find it still risky to open the h-file. For instance 17.f4 Nxg6 18.Qh5 Bh4+ 19.Kd2 Nxd4 20.Bxd4 Qe7 21.Rh1 with 22.Bf2 to follow.

TheAlchemist: <hitman> Thanks, although we do have both games already :-)
Feb-26-07  hitman84: <chessmoron>Yes FEN "a space" and then a "b" the default is white to move.
Feb-26-07  hitman84: <TheAlchemist>Goes to show that we indeed have gained a vital tempo :)

  TheAlchemist: <Marco> Hmmm...

17.f4 Nxg6 18.Qh5 could we try for example 18...Nxd4 19.Bxd4 b4 20.Ne2 Bb7 21.Rg1 Bh4 22.Rxh4 Nxh4 23.Qxh4 Be4? Is that any good?

Otherwise, we could still improve earlier, as you said you found 14...b5 after 13...Qc7 suspicious, could we try 13...Nxd4 14.Bxd4 b5 instead?

jessicafischerqueen: <Marco, Swapmeet> I've gone through your analysis carefully this morning, and, if both Qc7 and o-o are safe, I'm still heavily in favor of <o-o> at this point, and not just cuz I thought of it first...

I'm just super paranoid about our King being stranded in the center.

<0-0> doesn't waste a tempo. It defends all three of our King pawns and develops the King rook. How is that a waste of tempo?

jessicafischerqueen: <Hitman> I think <Zebra> is referring to cricket
Feb-26-07  hitman84: <Jess>My friends used to call me a left handed Mark Waugh for my silky smooth flicks and easy cover drives.

I also bowl like Shane Warne but would like to be a Stephen Waugh.

There are many things I admire about the Aussies..courage, selflessness, hard work! but racism is one thing that absolutely pisses me off. They say its there everywhere, just ask the Aussie cricketers about Indians and the way we treat them. Thier fans are a pack of whackos.

jessicafischerqueen: <hitman> Amen, my crickety mate... Canada (and most everywhere else, I fear) is also full of racism.

it's a cancer.

Solution for racism? Everyone should shag people of a different race until they are all blended together?

Just "thinking" out loud...

Feb-26-07  hitman84: <Solution for racism?>Ahem! Education and Dawkinism I feel would go a long way.

Feb-26-07  Marco65: <TheAlchemist> <Is that any good?> 2 pieces for a rook and pawn, not so good imo

<could we try 13...Nxd4 14.Bxd4 b5 instead?> Good idea. It's similar to <Andreikin-Lugovoi>, except that we have considered 13.Rg1 so far (but it's more likely that MFO will play 13.f4 as in that game) and that Lugovoi takes back with the queen (better than Bxd4 imo). I find it a good way to continue after 12...O-O.

But that very game and the way it ends convince me not to put our king under the pawn storm...

Thanks for the effort, but I'm still for 12...Qc7

TheAlchemist: <Marco> Ok, thanks for your thoughts, much appreciated.

<2 pieces for a rook and pawn, not so good imo> We have R+2P vs B+N. In some cases this is very good, maybe in our it isn't.

On a lighter note, I just came home from a basketball game, where we were down by 5 with a a minute and a half to go, but ended up winning by 7! Hehe...
