TheAlchemist: Thank you, you too!

Dec-09-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

TheAlchemist: White played a seemingly clever sacrifice, but the refutation on move 25 was simply stunning

TheAlchemist: <goodevans: Will we have another Milan-based pun tomorrow when its two big football teams face each other in the Champions League Semi-Final? https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsl... It's a huge reach, but you could call it even timelier. Unfortunately Slovaks call it ...

TheAlchemist: Amazing, what a finish, what a match. Congratulations, Ding!

TheAlchemist: Great pun!

TheAlchemist: I'd have to dig out contemporary magazines to be sure, but I think it said Black simply left the playing hall and never returned, leaving everyone puzzled (teammates included).

TheAlchemist: I also forgot to add that both of those are masculine forms, the feminine one would be "šahistka". I was a bit too fast with the reply.

TheAlchemist: <Marco> Like this: "Sir, thank you, Sergeant Marco, Sir!"

<mckmac> I'm sure it was all just a misunderstanding, don't feel bad about it. I try for us to reach a general consensus and at the time when I posted the move everyone was for Qe8, you didn't declare your support for Qf8 explicitly and even if you had, you'd have been outvoted, but that's how it works, we've all been outvoted at some point. Your other posts arrived AFTER I had posted the move, which was too late in any case, once we make a move, there's no turning back. No use crying over spilt milk now, I just hope this little "incident" won't affect your contributions hereafter, you are a very valuable member and I can't imagine our team without you.

I have spoken.

May-03-07  Marco65: <you are a very valuable member and I can't imagine our team without you> general consensus on this (no need to vote!)
May-03-07  Marco65: <TheAlchemist> Can we ask MFO if, when the game is over, also their forum will be publicly open to us? It'll be interesting to see what they were discussing while it was their turn, and see if they produced analyses similar to ours.

TheAlchemist: <Marco> I think that can be arranged
May-03-07  Zebra: I missed all the excitement. What have I done... <head in hands>

I second <marco>'s suggestion about the MFO forum, if that is OK with them.

I have also been wondering whether <chessgames> would be willing to make similar closed discussion spaces available to teams of kibbitzers, if these discussion games are going to become a feature here.

May-03-07  mckmac: < Team > Please accept my resignation.

TheAlchemist: May I enquire why? You don't have to answer.
May-03-07  Zebra: <mckmac> I will be very sorry if you do leave, and hope you will reconsider.
May-03-07  chessmoron: <mckmac> Please do not feel that you are shunned away from us. Please continue contributing, we CAN NOT lose another player. Please reconsider.
May-03-07  Marco65: <mckmac> You came later but have been the heart and the glue of our team! Always willing to recap all available choices with plenty of diagrams... and I can't remember how many times you fixed my flawed analyses. Please reconsider that!

At least let us the opportunity to discuss the current misunderstanding. I guess it has to do with what I said and maybe I've been too rude, but I didn't expect such reaction and I still don't understand it

May-03-07  Eyal: <TheAlchemist: If you need any medical advice, don't hesitate to ask... your local pharmacist!>

Once upon a time, a certain rich miser conceived the design of spunging upon this Abernethy for a medical opinion. Getting up, for this purpose, an ordinary conversation in a private company, he insinuated his case to the physician, as that of an imaginary individual.

"We will suppose," said the miser, "that his symptoms are such and such; now, doctor, what would you have directed him to take?"

"Take!" said Abernethy, "why, take advice, to be sure."

(E. A. Poe, "The Purloined Letter")

May-03-07  mckmac: <Marco65 > The only debt carried between us has my name on it.Working under your tutelage has been a proper education in the game. When I played as a youngster, despite having some ability - I drew a simul game with Dr Max Euwe once! - I could not improve much.Chess required hard work, order and preparation. You have shown me that it's all worth it.Matt.

TheAlchemist: <mckmac> Well, I still hope you reconsider.

If you won't, however, please, let me thank you for all your contributions, they were invaluable. Thank you!

May-03-07  Marco65: <mckmac> I do think you are a strong player and all the potential to become better and better, but what you are doing now is your worst move ever in this game!

Please tell me what was it. The fact you missed that Zebra's line loses a rook? Come on, anybody make blunders here, I have just missed a back rank mate in the 26...d5 27.Nxd5 Kh8 line, remember?

The fact you "broke" some rules? I think everybody understood you did it with the best intentions, you thought you found a saving line. And probably misunderstood the vote majority being formed here. That's been clarified, please now withdraw your last move!

<Please accept my resignation> so it's simple, we just don't accept it!

Now let's go back to the game. It will be less fun without you

May-03-07  mckmac: <TheAlchemist> Like you say - what's done is done.I feel bad about leaving you guys in the lurch, but suspect that my continued presence could turn out to be more of a hindrance than a help.Anyway,<Zebra> is right,a few working well together beats a ragged bunch who wont.I hope there are no hard feelings - there are none on my side, merde happens, makes folk get down and dirty, but it all comes out in the wash.:)
May-03-07  Marco65: <suspect that my continued presence could turn out to be more of a hindrance than a help> I can't disagree more. But I guess there can't be anything that can be said any more to make you change your mind, you seem prisoner of your own (wrong) decision!

Take care Matt.

TheAlchemist: Rxf7 has been played, I suggest we post Nxf7 today, since I can't normally meet the deadline (it's 5 AM here)
May-04-07  Marco65: <TheAlchemist> Agreed. I don't see alternatives here.

I thought 27.Qd4 was stronger. They decided to take the exchange the other way (Ba4). Let the show go on.

May-04-07  Zebra: That has the vote of the black and white equine jury too.

<mkcmac> One more appeal not to abandon ship. I nearly did because of a similar misunderstanding earlier in the game, but decided not to. Hope you will seriously consider doing the same.

May-04-07  mckmac: <TheAlchemist> Captain. Well...the rudder might be a bit wonky, but at least your press-gang takes no prisoners.I surrender(in a strangely flattered state). If the offer is still good - count me in.

TheAlchemist: <mckmac> Ding ding, you drove us crazy...

Welcome back, buddy!

May-04-07  mckmac: <TA> Cheers mate-hope the weekend is a corker over your way

:)

May-04-07  chessmoron: <I thought 27.Qd4 was stronger. They decided to take the exchange the other way (Ba4). Let the show go on.> At least we can relax and breathe properly.

I'm going with Nxf7.

May-05-07  Marco65: Welcome back <mckmac>! I had lost any hope. We needed another equine to convince you!
