| May-16-07 | | Marco65: I'm still for 30...Rc8. The "less worse" |
| May-16-07 | | chessmoron: <Marco65: I'm still for 30...Rc8. The "less worse"> 31.Bf4 a4 32.Qd4 and wins our bishop from 32...gxh6 33.Rxe4 click for larger viewI'm still choosing Bxd5 and hoping for exchange. *Be good to us* *Be good to us* |
| May-16-07 | | chessmoron: Scratch that! 30...Bh4 31.Bf2 instead of 31...a5...why not Bg5 |
| May-17-07 | | Marco65: <chessmoron> 30...Rc8? 31.Bf4 a4 32.Qd4! thanks for pointing that out, also 32...Qf8 33.Rxe4 axb3 34.hxg7 doesn't holdBut 30...Bh4 31.Bf2 Bg5? is something I considered: 32.Qxg5! Nxg5 33.Nf6+ Kf8 34.hxg7+ Kxg7 35.Nxe8+ Kg6 36.Bg3 and we don't succeed in keeping their knight blocked |
| May-17-07 | | Marco65: So far we discarded everything that loses the exchange. I think the key here is to acknowledge that such loss is unavoidable, but try to keep the extra pawn and activate our pieces in change. It's evident that we can't accept any more to play with a pinned knight, this is something that ElixirOfLife pointed out immediately coming in with a fresh mind. Imagine if we can survive with two pieces pinned! I will try to find alternatives with this new attitude |
| May-17-07 | | Marco65: Well... I found it difficult to find anything that doesn't lose at least a piece... any idea better than resigning? |
| May-17-07 | | Elixir of Life: <Marco65> Yes... Play on until we're absolutely sure we're lost... Let them demonstrate the winning of the piece, and THEN resign. |
| May-17-07 | | Elixir of Life: Anyone's considering 30...gxh6?? I might have missed a killer tacic, but it might be an option |
| May-17-07 | | Elixir of Life: Forget my post. 30...gxh6 allows the threat of Nf6+ forking queen. |
| May-17-07 | | Elixir of Life: What about 30...Bh4 31. Bf2 a4?? Anyone considered it? |
May-17-07
 | | TheAlchemist: Frankly, if it were me playing, I would resign here. I'm not saying we should, though, just if anyone else wants to continue, I'm for Bxd5. |
| May-17-07 | | chessmoron: For Bxd5

It's over guys! It's been fun. The moron is out. |
| May-17-07 | | Marco65: <EoL> 30...gxh6 31.Bf4 and we can't avoid 32.Qd4 losing the bishop. I have already answered to chessmoron for your other line. I am for 30...Bxd5 as well, at least it's forcing for them and we might find a saving move later, or resign... |
| May-17-07 | | Zebra: <Marco <30...Rc8> 31.Bf4 a4 32.Bxa4 Qxa4 33.Rxe4
....
and here I suggested 33...Ba5 but of course that would allow 34.Ne7+>Could we play ...b3? It seems to me they can't take with either pawn, though I may well be wrong. |
| May-17-07 | | Zebra: I am also in favour of making them demonstrate the win before resigning. |
| May-17-07 | | Marco65: <Zebra> Check previous ppsts, 32.Qd4 wins in that line (courtesy of chessmoron) |
| May-17-07 | | Marco65: But... wait... <30...a4> 31.Bxa4 Ne5 should "only" lose the exchange (and some pawns) maybe we can hold with that |
| May-17-07 | | chessmoron: <Marco65> Or 31...Bh4 |
| May-17-07 | | Zebra: <marco> yes, I had seen that, am still trying to find something. One thing at a time. |
| May-17-07 | | Zebra: <Marco65: But... wait... <30...a4> 31.Bxa4 Ne5 should "only" lose the exchange (and some pawns) maybe we can hold with that> 31. Qd4 doesn't look nice in this line either.
I have to go now. I vote Rc8 if it can be salvaged, otherwise I guess a4 may be worth trying. |
| May-17-07 | | Marco65: <zebra> 30...a4 31.Qd4 Qe5 shouldn't be a problem. I don't know if I will be here at the deadline, my vote is ...a4 |
| May-17-07 | | Zebra: I will go with a4 as well. |
May-17-07
 | | TheAlchemist: I don't really like a4, but what the hell, I didn't analyze it, so I trust you guys. My preference is still Bxd5, but I can go either way. <chessmoron> What say you? |
| May-17-07 | | chessmoron: a4 okay. |
| May-17-07 | | Marco65: <TheAlchemist> Well done. I think the move has been less analysed than anything else, but since with "anything else" we'd lose a piece or get mated, we have little to lose. And, more important, you can put the blame on me! <chessmoron> 30...a4 31.Bxa4 Bh4 can lead to very complex situations, I think we lose but I didn't analyse it deeply: 32.Rg1 (this time 32.Bf2 Bg5 33.Be3 Bh4 works) 32...Bg6 and now: a) 33.Qd4? Bf6 34.Nxf6+ gxf6 35.Bxc6 Qxc6 36.Rxg6+? hxg6 37.Qxf6 Qh1+

here if White wants to avoid exchanging queens and the perpetual at all costs only takes risks:
38.Kd2 Qh2+ 39.Kd3 Ne5+ 40.Ke4 Qxc2+ 41.Kd5 Qc6+ 42.Ke6 Qd7+ 43.Kd5 Qc6+ = b) 33.Nxb4 Ne5 34.Nxc6 Nxc6 35.Qd5+ Bf7 36.Rxg7+ Kh8 37.Qf3!

we have to improve on this in order to play 31...Bh4. Until then, I stick with 31...Ne5.
<team> Attention their 31.Bxa4 will probably come much before the deadline |
