The Caissars: Thank you for participating in the 2019 Caissars! We apologize for the very delayed start, which probably contributed to the difficulty of selecting deserving candidates, and will do our best to run the Caissars at the beginning of January in the future. <And now here are ...

  jessicafischerqueen: <Annie> Excellent work and thank you again. I'd like to join you in nominating <Ohio Chess Fan> for another existing category, "Most Helpful."

He's been extremely helpful to me for many years now. He helped me find new friends by giving me very good advice, such as "don't be such a tool" and so on.

Ok he didn't phrase it like that, but he well could have.

  jessicafischerqueen: I'll also nominate <chancho> for "most helpful" because he has posted hundreds of links in my forum to help with chess history research.

  jessicafischerqueen: While I'm at it I'll also nominate <Alien Math> and <Thanh Phanh>, for "Most Helpful," because they always help with computer problems, chess history research, and music research.

Who gave you the right to recap? If someone did, then you're doing an awful job. You missed some nominees. Go back down the road and try again. Ok?

  WannaBe: Nobody need to, it's called Freedom of Speech.

She did not miss anyone, those that you think she missed, did not follow the rules.

Jan-05-13  Blunderdome: From Caissar's profile: <You may NOT argue who should or should not win any of the various awards on this forum>

I imagine we should also not argue about which nominations are real and which ones are jokes or obvious sockpuppets.

If CG feels certain nominations are not in the spirit of the contest they can discount them, but I'd suggest that anyone who wants to post an unofficial recap should err on the side of inclusiveness.

Also, since it's possible to nominate <oneself>, I don't see how sockpuppetry can be a problem here; it's only in the voting that it would matter. I mean, it would be dishonest, but it wouldn't change the nominee list.

  tpstar: <Annie K.> Great recap!

1) Please add <Softpaw> for Best Post.

2) Note <Once> was nominated for Most Constructive instead of Most Helpful.

Everything else is correct up to your NotePad post. I agree with ignoring the sockpuppet mischief for now ("Sockpuppetry shan't be tolerated") but the site will ultimately decide about them.

*****

These are the nominees for Best Game Collection:

<Benzol>

<Crawfb5>

<kevin86> Game Collection: polygamy or what's an extra Q among friends?

<Phony Benoni> Game Collection: Game of the Day Pun Index (A-C)

<suenteus po 147>

<SwitchingQuylthulg> Game Collection: Uneventful, everyday, dull draws

<TheFocus>

<whiteshark>

This award has traditionally been designated to recognize one single Game Collection and not an entire body of work (which would be Most Constructive) but that policy is not set in stone. In the meantime, voters may consider choosing one representative example for the omnibus nominations to improve their chances.

  jessicafischerqueen: It's difficult to drive an omnibus in any given direction.
Jan-05-13  jepflast: I immediately thought of the most recent Team Game as a source of award-worthy posting. Since not too many people played, these kibitzers may not win, but they deserve nominations for their mountains of high-quality work.

(Once again at the risk of leaving someone out) For <Best Analysis> I nominate: <blue wave>, <karpkasp>, <cro777>, <frogbert>, <YouRang>, <whiteshark>, <Tabanus>, <lost in space>, <WinKing>, and <Golden Executive>.

For <Most Constructive> I nominate: <kutztown46>, <AylerKupp>, and <RandomVisitor>.

For <Best Post>, I nominate the following by <karpkasp>, who manages to foresee the next 13 White and 12 Black moves of the Team Game in a cloudy position: Team White vs Team Black, 2012

And some stuff not related to that game... For <Best Avatar> I nominate <kwid>, <queenfortwopawns>, <peyote>, <Octavia>, <whiteshark>, <Marmot PFL>, and <achieve>.

For <Best Username> I nominate <Blunderdome>, <Mrs. Alekhine>, <Alien Math>, and <spinal pat>.

Although, it's kind of a shame there isn't an avatar+name category. Some are best enjoyed as a pair.

Jan-05-13  jepflast: Also, for <Funniest Poster> I nominate <jessicafischerqueen>.
Jan-05-13  magnifico: <Nobody need to, it's called Freedom of Speech.>

It's usurpation of power and authority. Show the power of attorney or at least have CG post its conformity. In any case, I consider such tally not binding...I know CG will also do.

<She did not miss anyone>

Of course he did. They are as follows:

<Jan-03-13 magnifico: I nominate <tolengoy> for all available awards.

Jan-03-13 magnifico: I nominate <Wesley So> for Player of the Year

Jan-03-13 magnifico: <I nominate: Funniest Poster: <Jim Bartle>>

I object!

Jan-03-13 magnifico: I nominate <orcafan> for most informed kibitzer.

Jan-03-13 magnifico: I nominate <isit> for most helpful.>

<If CG feels certain nominations are not in the spirit of the contest they can discount them, but I'd suggest that anyone who wants to post an unofficial recap should err on the side of inclusiveness.>

Wise post. I hope you consider it.

<those that you think she missed, did not follow the rules.>

Prove it!

Jan-05-13  magnifico: < <Annie K.> Great recap!>

Of course not!

Jan-05-13  magnifico: <WannaBe: Nobody need to, it's called Freedom of Speech.

She did not miss anyone, those that you think she missed, did not follow the rules.>

Your displaying the kind of attitude which prompted CG to moderate this contest by itself and away from you. I commend CG for this realization. It's better late than never.

  jessicafischerqueen: <WannaBe> announced before last year's Caissars that he wasn't going to run the awards show again. He'd been doing it on a voluntary basis for some years as a labor of love, for which we all thank him.

<Wannabe> kept the history, did all of the posting of rules and put up with endless squabbling and spamming and all manner of nonsense from the peanut gallery, including from me.

He showed great patience and dedication to the Caissars and to our community.

Nobody took the show "away from him."

The admins were kind enough to pitch in and keep the awards going this year.

Jan-05-13  magnifico: C'mon guys...just consider my nominations ok? Then I will calm the storm and leave you all alone.http://youtu.be/yyzwCpofQSA

  jessicafischerqueen: <magnifico> don't worry man. I'm sure the admins will recognize and count any post that says

"I nominate X for Y"

and you'll get a chance to vote for your nominees.

Jan-05-13  morfishine: Certainly, there must be an appropriate category for <Once> to be master of? His stories are without equal, combining humor with wit plus being constructive and helpful, all the while having analysis interlaced throughout

I nominate <Once> simply for 'Best'

OK, in the interest of staying within the rules, I nominate <Once> for Best Post: D Hansson vs R Akesson, 1998

Jan-05-13  magnifico: <and you'll get a chance to vote for your nominees.>

In that case, I nominate <jessicafischerqueen> for most helpful.

Jan-05-13  magnifico: I would like to amend my nomination of <isit> from most helpful to best historian instead.
Jan-05-13  magnifico: I nominate <isit> for Best Historian.
Jan-05-13  Travis Bickle: I nominate <jessicafischerqueen> for best historian.
Jan-05-13
Premium Chessgames Member
  OhioChessFan: Let's not disrupt the proceedings. I invite everyone to Argue for a nice round of vigorous debate over R Kola or Beer
Jan-05-13  Travis Bickle: I humbly suggest a new category, Best Entertaining Forum or Best Music forum. If you like Travis Bickle's Forum spread the word. ; P

  Annie K.: <tpstar> thanks much for corrections and the formatting work, doc!

<I agree with ignoring the sockpuppet mischief for now ("Sockpuppetry shan't be tolerated") but the site will ultimately decide about them.>

Absolutely. I specifically pointed out to <cg> who I left out, in case they wanted to include them. :)

BTW, "ignoring possible humorous intent" means that I've actually *included* technically valid nominations, even though they may have been meant as jokes.

OK, I'm all out of troll food, and just can't be bothered. On we go! :p
