| Feb-09-10 | | Open Defence: Hi Nikolai, this is my blog,
http://dark-horse-chess.blogspot.com/
as you can see I need to painstakingly link diagrams etc, If I could display the annotated PGNs using CVD it would help a lot, |

 | | Viewer Deluxe: Oh, I can clearly see, <OD> You’re well past the beginner’s level at blogging. My guess is that you should be able to deploy CVD using my publishing method. Have you tried the documentation “How to publish a chess game on your blog”?
http://chesstuff.blogspot.com/2008/... I’ll be happy to answer any further questions.
BTW, Congratulations for your GOTD ! |

Where can I find out information about it? Thanks |

 | | Viewer Deluxe: Here is the explanation on my blog:
“During the live event you will have extended chess-clock information including a <pondering time> which is a running estimate of the time spent contemplating the next move. I believe this innovative new feature will enhance the experience by making the heat of the battle more vivid…”The idea is very simple -- to show the time spent by a player before making the next move. I think it’s quite self explanatory and obvious while the game is in progress. Of course, the time left on the clock is also present as usual. |

| Feb-28-10 | | notyetagm: Where is this "pondering time" displayed?
I am watching the 6th round of the Reykjavik Open live and do *not* see this information. http://dl.skaksamband.is/mot/2010/M... Thanks |

 | | Viewer Deluxe: <notyetagm>,
As of his exact moment (1pm EST) the situation is as follows:1) The official site is completely down and NO games of the current round can be seen; 2) My live relay is fully operational and all games are displayed up to the latest available from the server. That includes game #3 which has finished and is available in full. The “pondering time” is displayed along with the very latest move. The current situation complicates the matters and the pondering time estimate will become very inaccurate. It won’t be fair to deduct the server’s downtime from the current player’s clock anyway. The workaround is to temporary NOT display any “pondering time” until a fresher information is available from the official server. In conclusion, live games aren’t as easy to relay as it might look especially in near real time. |

 | | Viewer Deluxe: Admitting their problems the official site just (as of 1:30pm EST) introduced a brand <*** new site ***> to cover round 6 games. It seems more reliable so far and we’re getting new information from it. Notice that the TFD proxy transition was very smooth (although I had to do it manually) and everyone else watching the games on my blog didn’t have to do anything – just to enjoy the show. Needless to say, terrible server problems like those can result into intermittent delays but there is only as much that we can do about it. |

| Mar-11-10 | | Shams: Nikolay, do you allow people to embed CVD to publish games on their own sites? If so, do you have a tutorial? |
|
Mar-11-10
 | | Viewer Deluxe: <Shams>, Absolutely! That’s the primary goal of my blog and my chess publishing method. As long as you have some basic experience with PGN you will be able to publish your games/puzzles on your blog with minimum effort. Take a look at “How to publish a chess game on your blog” http://chesstuff.blogspot.com/2008/... for step by step instructions. |
|
| Mar-11-10 | | Shams: Thanks!
Will you take a look?
http://iwantmynpv.blogspot.com/2010... Any idea how to widen the page to fit the applet?
Also, when I try introducing annotations or variations in my pgn it gets munged. |

 | | Viewer Deluxe: Congratulations, <Shams>
You’ve just set a speed record at installing and posting your first post. Well done! To top off the experience I have more good news. (today IS your lucky day indeed.) I’ve played with that layout (897) before and it isn’t difficult to adjust. Send me an e-mail (bottom of CVD’s home page on my blog) and I’ll send you back some instructions. How comfortable are you with tweaking the Layout? Annotations and variations are also very easy but you need to be careful. Take a game w/ variations and explore the PGN. The syntax is somewhat strict and it’ll break if not followed. |
|
| Mar-11-10 | | Shams: I hit you up, thanks. |

| Mar-26-10 | | Shams: Nikolay, can you take a look at game 1 move 5 here and tell me why I'm throwing weird errors every time I type and ellipse? http://iwantmynpv.blogspot.com/2010... |
|
Mar-28-10
 | | Viewer Deluxe: Shams, your question is related to the Unicode support. PGN standard clearly defines that only limited number of characters (basic Latin) are allowed. For example, the only way to denote black’s move is by “...” (three dots). Ellipse (which is a UTF symbol) can’t be used and will always cause problems outside comment/annotations. On the other hand, if we take comment/annotations alone it will be quite inconvenient to restrict those to only Latin. That’s why CVD fully supports UTF inside the annotations. If you run the “HTML Code Generator for Blogs” application and try inserting various UTF symbols in annotations you will see that they’re fully supported and displayed properly by the viewer. Your problem most probably stems from the editor which you use to prepare the postings. Also copy/paste operations are known to cause similar effect in certain situations. Bottom line is that your “...” (three dots) are getting somehow converted to an ellipse symbol where they shouldn’t. PS: Did you get my e-mail from a while ago? |
|
| Mar-31-10 | | Shams: Nikolay, yes, I did, thank you. And thank you for your explanation. It must be my text editor since all I did was strike the period key three times. I'll play around with it, thanks. |
