Guess it will be in 'fashion' again in the future. =) Speaking of which, I once read on Wiki on the creator of the Algebraic notation, but I failed to remember what year it was 'created' or when the decriptive notation start to go out of fashion... Also, during my game 5 of the National Open, my opponent was writing down the moves in descriptive notation. I thought it was interesting. While many attempts in the successive centuries were made to convert to an algebraic 3D notation, it never caught on as a vocal means of communicating the moves.
