Sep-26-06  Marvol: Excuse me, is this the Ke2 forum?

Right. Things have not gone according to plan. The king is a full four moves away from reaching e2.

I therefore suggest to make way for our monarch. We either play the tactical 12.f4! or the more positional 12.f3!?

Sep-26-06  positionalgenius: <Wannabe>I'm organizing a round robin tournament on Yahoo! running from oct 2-6,if you would compete I'd like it. I've also invited <syracrophy><sneaky> <blingice><lazydaisy>.

WannaBe: It's time for... Useless Information! The information, is courtesy of October 2006 issue of the Smithsonian!

The very first female artist group to reach number 1 on the Billboard, Supremes, with their album "The Supremes A' Go-Go" in 1966.

The Supremes did reach number 1 two more times, can you name the next female artist group to reach the top of the Billboard charts? (Answer below...)

Abraham Lincoln is the only U.S. president to hold a patent. http://inventors.about.com/od/lstar... (As of today)

Believe it or not, the world's population is actually shrinking, not very much or very fast, but it is.

For a society to sustain a population equalibrum, family must have (on average) 2.1 children, this is to account for early child death, amongst other illnesses, and unforseen circumstances.

Currently none of the western civilization are even close to that. Worst hit countries include Italy 1.3 children per couple (cpc), France, Germany, and Russia. In some metropolitan areas the numbers are even worse.

In greater Tokyo area, the number is 0.98 cpc, Hong Kong, it's 0.96, and Macau it's 0.84

There are countries that gives couple tax breaks to produce more children. In U.S. it's 2.03, but the number is misleading, most of the child birth comes from recent immigrants and through immigration and adoption.

If one counts the cpc of native born American citizen (regardless of their parents' birth country) the number for U.S. falls below 2.0 cpc.

Trivia answer, The Supremes hit number 1 on the charts with their album "The Supremes A Go-Go", the next female group to have a number 1 hit, is the Go-Go's in 1982 with their song "Beauty and the Beat".

So if you want to form an all-girl group and want a number 1 hit, include the words Go-Go somewhere in your name, song title, or CD cover. =)

Sep-27-06  Robin01: <WannaBe> Thanks for the lines on that position. I continued with Rxe5. I eventually won that game.

This forum will be hosting the 12.f3 variations. Feel free to post your analysis for the move.

WannaBe: As far as f3 goes, it is often used in the Sicilian-Dragon, Yugoslav attack, the point of the f3 is to prevent the knight coming to g4.

In our game, I think it has merits, it will serve the purpose of guarding g4, at the same time, protecting our e-pawn. And possibly later free our light squared bishop and queen to do 'better' things.

Sep-27-06  positionalgenius: <Wannabe>I suggested f3 but its not a candidate move.

WannaBe: Don't worry, my Bf4 followed by BxN was shot down immediately. :-)
Sep-27-06  you vs yourself: 12.f3 is a decent move. It'll guard e4, prevent Ng4 and strengthens the bishop that'll camp on e3.
Sep-27-06  twinlark: f3 has been a solid alternative for the last few moves. It's problem is that it <looks> counterintuitive and weakening the King, and doesn't look as sexy as the piece moves.

Take a look a few pages back on my forum, if you like, for some early f3 analysis to get a feel for it. It won't be directly useful, but it might provide some postional pointers (protecting e4, leaving f2 available to the Q etc).

This could be a sleeper, a bit like some people reckon about Rd1. It's definitely worth a look.

Sep-27-06  dr.roho: <wannabe> KILL BILL II was on tv a couple days ago. Was that where you got the idea for your quotes or had you watched it before?

I know I shouldn't be watching KILL BILL but I am not one of those stupid kids who gets inspired by movies and shoots a cop then creates a lawsuit on movie companies saying it was their fault. So I think I am mature enough to watch it. Remember, I am not that type of kid<...>

Sep-27-06  dr.roho: Oh and is the lone shark even loaning you money or have you been blacklisted?lol...

WannaBe: <dr.roho> both, I've seen it in theatres when it first came out and was bored, so watched it again when it was on TV that night. (Even though they cleaned up all the cussin')

Yeah, the loan shark still lends me money, even though for the last 2 legs, I did not pay him back! :-)

OhioChessFan: <twinlark> I admit to being a little bothered that people are summarily dismissing the less sexy moves. I liked your ideas about f3 and still think it's a viable option.

I'm too sexy for YOOOOOOUUUUU.

I'm too sexy for this f3,

I'm too sexy for YOOOOOOUUUUU.

(No apology to anyone! =)

Sep-28-06  twinlark: <OhioChessFan>

It is a viable option, as are a number of other moves, but there are no takers. Moves like f3 and Na3, especially early in a game are not moves that players at our level are used to making.

The ballot display does its damage to.

Be3 has the virtue of looking tangibly consistent with a5 and the pressure on b6.

I'm looking forward to your summary of Rd1 at 1300. Don't be discouraged by Rd1 not being a real chance. As you pointed out, Rd1 (from a or f) is till a likely move at some stage and these analyses will provide some positional hints and pointers.

Sep-28-06  twinlark: Also, it'll be good practice in putting together analytical summaries.

OhioChessFan: One observation about f3. There are a number of lines where I like the idea N1d2-f3. Does f3 commit us to Nc3?
