Jan-12-07  DrDum: Hear Ye Hear Ye Yes ladies and Gents it is I the good Doctor and I am here to tell you all about <Wannabe's> BIG NIGHT. That's right everybodies Patsy <Wannabe> slapped me around and abused me over the chessboard in a manner beffitting a red-headed step-child (No offense to red-heads or stepchildren) And the good news (or bad depending upon your perspective) is that with marvel that is 21st century technology (drum roll please) all games were played on a DGT board and recorded for posterity.

Now I have always claimed that games played while medicating oneself do not count. However, this is no excuse for the performance I gave last night.

Furthermore the last two games in particular may look like wins for me and the pgn may be somewhat skewed because we went over continuations without turning off the DGT board.

But they were in fact <Wannabe> wins.

The score was 4-1. So now, without further ado, I present to you last nites games

WannaBe: <DrDum> It was nice to play on a wooden board with wooden pieces, against a wooden opponent that was pushing wood! :-)
Jan-12-07  DrDum: Don't forget my wooden head! :=D
Jan-12-07  DrDum: I think I'm going to be using my DGT board more often. It's literally impossible to screw up the recording of moves when the board itself is doing it for you!

Jan-12-07  chesstoplay: Hi WannaBe,

I had an idea tonight. Yury just called from the airport. He is traveling to teach in Kansas this weekend. He has to teach from 8AM to 8PM tomorrow. But it got me to thinking about chess and traveling and upcoming tournaments...

So then, the thought hit me...

If Yury is not playing in the Chicago Open and is in town, I'll ask him to join us for a while at your chessgames.com get together!

He has many commitments, but he might say yes.

If he decides to play in the Chicago Open, he will, in general, be in competitive game mode and be much, much less available.

Anyway, it is an idea. What do you think?

WannaBe: <chestoplay> To have GM Shulman at our little get-together would be super-duper!

I don't know how you're gonna 'wing' this, but I'd be personally very honored to meet him, get a group photo, and buy his dinner at our get-together!

I, currently favour dinner on Thursday night, before Friday's tournament. That way, we can at least get a drink or two, and relax a bit, before the pressure-cooker.

Jan-13-07  chesstoplay: Okay. He'll be here Monday night to teach, so I'll bring it up.

Jan-13-07  JustWoodshifting: Once again we have a plethora of drawn games at the Corus Tournament.

Perhaps Shredder, Fritz, and Rybka should have been entered. You can't make draw deals with a computer!

Jan-14-07  Archives: You totally owned me that game Wannabe.

I managed to maintain my extra pawn right through to the ending but then got some <crazy<<>>> idea that I could let you grab my Queenside pawns because I would be able Queen one of my Kingside pawns since your King would be over at the opposite corner of the board.

GG Sir!

Things are good, and I hope the same for you.

I see that GW's got you cornered in Texas.

<Do I know you?! :-))>

I vaguely remember you ;-), though I expected you would be <now-a-be> by this time.

<Things are good, and I hope the same for you.>

Glad things are good with you. Been to any tournaments lately? I've had an "interesting" experience the past few months.

<I see that GW's got you cornered in Texas.>

I needed to get nearer to my boy ;-)

Is the Emp gone for now?
