 | | WannaBe: <Silverstrike> That was game 3, game 1, I had posted a bad FEN, which was my fault, and played a wrong move, based upon that FEN. Game 2 came down to the wire, you had a pawn that I couldn't stop, without the lost of material. =) |

 | | WannaBe: Hmmmm... A couple of new faces here in the office that I haven't seen before... =) |
| Jan-29-07 | | Silverstrike: <WannaBe> Im sorry, I really can't remember game two. Did we play it on gameknot or something. |
Jan-29-07
 | | WannaBe: <Silverstrike> Nope, it was on your <Averageguy> forum. =) |
| Jan-30-07 | | Zebra: <Silverstrike> I was referring to Scotland (I was in Fraserburgh and Pennan). I forgot that you are even more of a multinational than me ;) |
| Jan-30-07 | | Silverstrike: <WannaBe> Im sorry, I still can't quite recall it. Could you tell me how the game went? |

 | | WannaBe: This was our game 2: Took place a little over a year ago, I did not keep the first game's PGN, because of reason I mentioned previously I thought game 2 was better played (by me, since I didn't commit major blunders, like posting/remember bad FEN, and costing me the game. But I still lost. And no, I'm not a regular Alek. Def. player.

| Jan-30-07 | | suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> That was a good game you played. We should look over it together in detail. Also, don't know if you're interested, but here's a mini-tournament I just joined that you could join too: http://gameknot.com/mt.pl?id=19591 |

 | | WannaBe: <suenteus po 147> I have joined it. As far as that game goes. I should have looked at my position more before taking your bishop last night. My initial dropping a pawn was moving queen to c8, in an attempt to pick up your adv. e-pawn, and dropping my d-pawn. And that's probably all she wrote. =( |
| Jan-30-07 | | suenteus po 147: Your game was going just fine until the position you mentioned: click for larger viewYou came up with 18...Qc8!? forking my knight and pawn, which looks smart. And I think it does have potential (otherwise the question mark goes before the exclam). What you missed, and what gave me the advantage, was that I could sac the knight for an attack behind your ranks. Moving your queen drops the valuable d6 pawn which is the only guard from white penetration behind the ranks. The "safe move" in the above position is 18...Nc8. |
| Jan-30-07 | | suenteus po 147: Now, let's get to another crucial position:
click for larger viewHere, you basically said "Okay! I was wrong, I'll let you have the pawn," and moved 20...Qc8? This lets me recover my knight while having won a pawn. Did you consider 20...Qd4? Now if I take the knight, you're still a piece up because my bishop is en prise, and if I exchange queens I only get two pawns for my knight, which is still even, if unbalanced. See: 20...Qd4 21.Qxd4 exd4 22.Bxf4 followed by 22...Nc6 as probably best. |
Jan-30-07
 | | WannaBe: <suenteus po 147> No, I did not consider ...Qd4 =( |
| Jan-30-07 | | suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> That's okay. It's the kind of move that isn't really obvious. One of the things I've been loving about shifting to correspondence play, and especially using the "Analyze board feature" at GameKnot, is that I'm teaching myself all kinds of interesting things. It's how I figured out the Qxd6 move. I was just fiddling around with moves, trying to protect of sac my advanced e-pawn. I was almost committed to Bb2 to protect my knight when I realized I could protect my pawn with my queen (I tried Qd5 which of course falls to the knight :p ) if I took the d6 pawn. Of course then I had to start over, playing with moves of how I won the knight back (or made it work if I was a piece down). Correspondence chess is very freeing because it gives me hours, or even days to work over one move and the consequences. And when I've got a line worked out, like I did with Qd6 I can set conditional moves and then spend even more hours working out what to do if you follow my line of best play. |

 | | WannaBe: First by 1/2 pt! (See what happens when I don't play <suenteus po 147>, I get to know what win feels like!?) http://www.schemingmind.com/minitou... |
| Jan-30-07 | | suenteus po 147: <Wannabe> Congratulations! I haven't really gotten a chance to play on schemingmind yet, but I'll be looking through your games soon enough :) |
| Jan-31-07 | | Silverstrike: <WannaBe> Oh yes, now I remember. I think that you could have saved your pawn with 14...Bxb3. Thanks for posting it. :) |

 | | WannaBe: Going home tomorrow morning! =) |
| Feb-01-07 | | Trudodyr: <wannabe>got a small problem. Every time I try to access playchess.com it stops it and says "create lobbymanager exception". After that it shuts the program down with "illegal operation" then "runtime error-abnormal program termination".
I've reinstalled it twice, and checked my computer for problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| Feb-01-07 | | twinlark: Dr WannaBe. Sir.
My little engine Shredder 10 keeps fainting.
I've had to reinstal it (sometimes after uninstalling it) a few times and when the popup asks for the serial number to be inserted into its five-digit fields, it won't accept them as the "OK" button is greyed out no matter how many times I uninstal or reinstal. (I have registered it online.) I then get the engine going and after about ten minutes, another popup kindly informs me that the serial number is invalid and a couple of minutes later the engine shuts down.*. Just like that. Have you any idea what insect is causing this? |
| Feb-01-07 | | positionalgenius: <wannabe>Looks like you have your hands full:) |
Feb-01-07
 | | WannaBe: <Trudodyr> I don't use/visit/or know playchess.com =( Perhaps you can try your question in the Kibitz' Cafe. Good luck with that. <twinlark> That doesn't sound like a purchased Shredder 10 from Chessbase, is it a downloaded version straight from Shredder's home site? (The CD-ROM version have a much longer registry code) Try asking them first, I have an 'idea' on what is wrong. (Windows Registry) See if they can offer you any opinion(s) first, try it out, if not, then we'll try to clean up your registry. |
Feb-01-07
 | | WannaBe: <twinlark> Unless you bought the Mac version, then I dunno how to help you. But do try their support first. |
Feb-01-07
 | | WannaBe: <Trudodyr> Turns out, I do have access to playchess.com, but don't use it. What are the exact steps to 'recreate' your problem? Just trying to log-in? |
| Feb-01-07 | | Trudodyr: <Wannabe>yes.Trying to login |
Feb-01-07
 | | WannaBe: <Trudodyr> I have logged in, and see no problem, have you tried to download the (installation) program again and choose repair? Or have you tried to uninstall/reinstall already? |
