I don't quite get people who think <music is un-Islamic>. I've actually read the <Koran> (also the Book of Mormon, Bagahvad Gita, The Upanishads, and the Bible). The Koran never says music is bad.
Anywhere.
Neither does the Bible.
But Puritan Protestants said music was bad. Also theatre, flowers, and a nice sunny day. Well these people should read THEIR OWN BOOKS once in awhile, I think. Very interesting News Story there <MannBee>. |

| Aug-13-07 | | YouRang: <I don't quite get people who think <music is un-Islamic>. I've actually read the <Koran> (also the Book of Mormon, Bagahvad Gita, The Upanishads, and the Bible).> I believe that for the majority of Muslims, the Koran is not the only authoritative writing. There is also the hadith, where Muslims do find text speaking negatively about music. An article called "The Islamic Ruling on Music and Singing" can be read here:
http://oum_abdulaziz.tripod.com/mus...
Of course, there is no consensus among Muslims. Many Muslims enjoy music despite these "rulings". However, the idea that music is un-Islamic does have some basis. |
|
Aug-13-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: It may have some basis, but it's still clearly a ludicrous doctrine. Almost beyond comprehension. Why do people do this to themselves? I'll never understand it. |

 | | WannaBe: Pretty soon, they'd all be singing 'She Bangs' as badly as that Hwang kid. =) Boy, today's a long day, 13 hours, and I'm at the N. Cal office. |
|
Aug-14-07
 | | tpstar: <WannaBe> I submitted this GOTD Shabalov vs Xie Jun, 2002 as "Xie Bangs" but that was far too racy for our youthful element, so it was reworked into "Xie Works Hard For the Money." True dat. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Good lord and here another post of mine was deleted. For using the word <prostitute> in reference to the Donna Summer song. Which is in fact about prostitution. And how great it is. Hey, I didn't write the dam thing, eh?
I am under HEAVY SCRUTINY it seems.
I wonder why they don't just post an official warning in my forum or just email me? Maybe they hope I'll just go away on my own.
Oh well.
Did you know there is a <chess GM> named <MannBee>? I couldn't believe it! |
|
Aug-16-07

 | | WannaBe: <jessicafischerqueen> Errr... I looked at the site, the gent's name is Gary, which, as you know, is not me. Plus I don't visit/live in St. Petersburg. I'm gonna guess that the Florida one, not the Russia one. =) On a separate note, I did make it home okay, left NCal about 6:30 AM, got to the office around 2 PM, got the files back onto the server, and my co-workers were able to make a software release today. |

 | | WannaBe: Just saw the ad for the next 'Survivor', it looks like they'll be in China... Why did no one tell me?!?!? I'd be the winner of that one!! Whatever they put down in front of me, I'd eat it, there's probably nothing in Chinese cooking that I wouldn't eat... =) Plus, knowing the language would probably help. =) |
|
Aug-19-07
 | | WannaBe: Speaking of Chinese food...
While I was up in NCal... my co-worker took me to a Shanghai restaurant, and <MAN>!! was it good! We had chilled & thinly sliced pig kidney, along with jellyfish head as appetizer, then had 'little dragon dumplins' (Sha'l Lon Bao) along with the main course! =) I miss that restaurant already, I've got to find one like that in SCal... |
