| Aug-28-07 | | achieve: <WannaBe> I checked and you have 7 games going on at GK.com Do I have to wait for games to expire to start more games? (Seems to me that 4 games at a time I can handle at the moment, but 2 opponents are not active..) |
|
| Aug-28-07 | | brankat: <achieve> Then start 2 more. If Your in-active opponents re-activate, You play 6. It's a good practice for tourneys where You'll be playing 6 games. Should You find six games to be too much to deal with, You can always resign 2, and keep on playing just 4 :-) |
|
| Aug-28-07 | | achieve: <brankat> Ahh thanks. And I may already get a resignation soon as well.. ;-) |
|
| Aug-28-07 | | whiteshark: <technical draw> I'd give her another years budget to stop this boondoggle.
(P.S. I guess it won't work,too.) |

| Aug-28-07 | | brankat: <WannaBe> Got the book about an hour ago! Just read Jusupow's Intro, and Agaard's Preface. Also, the author's notes to both editions. Went through the Contents and flipped through a few pages. Now, I have to put together a plan of study. The book is very comprehensive, and promises to be quite a valuable and enjoyable study/learning tool. Should I ever get a Master's title, it'll be all Your fault :-) Thank You so much my friend! |

 | | WannaBe: Time for another book review! "Almost a Miracle" by John Ferling. http://www.amazon.com/Almost-Miracl... Took me a while, but the book is finally finished, very detailed, rich with historical figures on both sides of the conflict. I highly recommend this book to anyone not familiar or feel the need to understand the completeness of the American Revolutionary War better. This book covers the whole war, from 1775-1783, starting from Lexington/Concord to the final sailing of British vessels from New York City's harbor. Details of blunders by sides are presented without bias. Historical figures on both sides of the war were given rich details on their planning, thoughts, decisions (blunder or otherwise) throughout the conflict. The book also gave a better understanding of the power struggle between France-Spain-Britain of that time. Highly recommended, and my next book review will be "Satan's Circus" by Mike Dash, another favorite author of mine. |

| Aug-29-07 | | technical draw: I have a new rule for chess tournaments. It's called the "obvious result" clause. Lets say I'm in a tournament and playing white against, I don't know, let's say Wannabe. I call the director and say I want to invoke the obvious result clause. He asks, "and what would that be?" And I answer 1-0. He looks at Wannabe's record and says "granted'! That would save a lot of time cause we wouldn't have to play out games where the result is obvious. Thanks, |

| Aug-29-07 | | achieve: <WannaBe> Thanks for your help over at my place.. I now, for some reason (number of games?), can send messages to people on GK.com. |

| Aug-30-07 | | technical draw: <Wannabe> Just because I randomly selected a name for an example of my new and brilliant idea does not mean that you should get upset. OK I'll change that random name to, uh, let's say, Wannabeqc. Is that to your satisfaction Mr. Sensitive? |

| Aug-30-07 | | whiteshark: <<<technical draw> Hey, I just won the first round robin tournament under the rules of wannabe(qc) chess with an impressive score of <18-0> !!!> With white I played 1. h4! and with black 1... a5!> marginal note: I was the TD, too. No second moves reported. |

| Sep-02-07 | | AlexanderBayouBoy: I don't post much on this site, but I check its puzzles every day and find the comments to be very insightful. Anyways, I just wanted to know what people in here thought of the game of Go. I hear so much about it being superior to chess because it relies so much more on "strategy" rather than "tactics," which, in turn also makes it much more difficult for computers to pick up. Apparently the best computer programs out there can't come close to the best human players. To me, it offers the same kind of appeal that Fischer Random does. Its nearly limitless possibilities in the opening make skill and creativity more important than experience and memorization. Opinions? |
