WannaBe: In case I forgot, congrats to them Lady Bruins. =)) U. Mich (69-63) won, but the last spread I saw was -6.5, so if you took UConn w/ spread, you got very lucky, if you bet on them U. Mich, I feel bad; the O/U was 148.5

WannaBe: Time for another <WannaBe>'s book review, today, we are doing "Passion and Principle" by Sally Denton. http://www.amazon.com/Passion-Princ...

The book tells the story of John and Jessie (Benton) Fremont, he the son of a dubious and unclear (family) background, she a daughter of the powerful senator, and the darling of the nation's Capital. (Yes, even the president proposed to her...)

John Fremont, frontiersmen and explorer, made numerous trips west, to map, chart and discover new plants/animals along with routes for the western expansion of the U.S. territories.

Along-side John, were his faithful friend Kit Carson (the state capital of Navada is named after him, Carson City) and during one expedition, they were almost froze/starved to death. (And of course, Fremont California is named after John & Jessie. In Long Beach, where I live, there is a Fremont Ave, and a Fremont Elementary School.)

The story encompasses some of the most difficult time in U.S. history, the war with Mexico, California gaining independence, and later its admission into the Union. (John Fremont would become one of the state's first senator)

The story also includes the period of the U.S. Civil War, and Reconstruction of the South.

This is the fourth book by Sally that I have read, and it's a great, great read, again, her research shows through, with details that's just amazing.

Highly recommend read for anyone with a historical fascination of that period, and the start of California (and its gold rush) and the turbulent time of U.S. in the 1800s.

Next book review will be "Troublesome Young Men" http://www.amazon.com/Troublesome-Y... so far, the book is just marvelous!!

WannaBe: <JoeWms> I don't usually delete posts (I like to keep evidences!) but for you, no problemo. =)
Oct-26-07  JoeWms: On the Timmerman page, the <Current Position> diagram is just an outlined square without the 64 delineated squares. It's been like that forever. The chess pieces know where to stand, though. (I use an external board to follow the game.)

What did I do to deserve this?

Thanks for your consideration, buddy.

Plus I just won a rook in a game on GameKnot. What else can one ask for? =)

WannaBe: What a bloody freaking day, should have just stayed in bed...

My system at work got corrupted (my fault, I won't go into details, but .dll file(s) was the problem), so I had to re-install XP Pro...

Then I lost all my files! (good thing my e-mail was on IMAP, so the e-mail server had a backup...) Synchronizing my e-mail account right now.

And getting all the windows updates/patches is taking forever... Grrrrrrr!
