Dec-14-08  brankat: <Mrs. Alekhine> Thanks for mentioning <Alydar>. While writing m previous post I couldn't remember the name for the life of me. I knew it started with the "A" though :-)

Yes, a great runner, and a sire. Too bad he died young.

I remember Alysheba well, cashed the Kentucky ticket in '77. Four-1 again :-).

After the first few steps out of the gate he stumbled and almost fell, but managed to recover and win in the end.

And of course two 2 Breeders Cup Classics.

Affirmed, like Secretariat (except for Lady's Secret) didn't do as well at the stud as Alydar and Slew.

Not to mention THE ONE. You know which one. The greatest of them all!

Dec-14-08  Mrs. Alekhine: <Northern Dancer>!!!

HEH-- Canadian too....

Be advised that <Slew> was in <Dancer's> blood lineage---

Dec-14-08  Mrs. Alekhine: Oh <branko> and yes <Slew and Alydar> better sires than <Affirmed>, but the latter was hardly a slouch..

Like I said, his turf children were stellar.

<Lady Affirmed> may be the greatest Turf Mare in American racing history, for example...

WannaBe: Breeders Cup, winning it twice in a row, that's hard, considering Curlin almost did it this year.

(I was there at the track, Santa Anita, which will host it against, in 2009...)

very exciting!!

I am jealous....

Poor <Curlin> got toasted on the turn for home there- going around 9-wide it looked like-- losing a lot of ground.

I saw it on <youtube>...

Dec-15-08  valiant: Best Written Post: <amadeus> On the Carlsen page today!
