  WannaBe: <tpstar> Thanks for the (always, moral) support! You've never let me down/fail. =)

I'm gonna vote for that red-devil avatared <Sneaky>!

  cu8sfan: Enough! There can't be a Caissar for a forum named <Should Kramnik Retire> just because there are Kramnik haters around.
Dec-27-08  NakoSonorense: I vote for <Sneaky>'s chessforum name, but I answer the second nominee's question with a 'yes'!

  tpstar: You guys are still hungover. I always said you drank too much. :p

Those two nominations (although brilliantly chosen) didn't have to be the only ones. Y'all could have voted for anybody. Oh well - too late now.

<WannaBe> The site awards have always yielded more than twice as many nominations compared to actual voting. Changing the timing won't affect that, and the participation might even be lower after the holidays (and the Present Hunt). I would still keep it in December but move it up to the first two weeks, thus avoiding the Christmas rush.

The real way to do it would be an official survey from the site itself, and only for Premium members, which would undoubtedly produce a more statistically significant sample. Yet previously they wanted to stay completely out of it so there's no potential for perceived bias or skewed results.

Dec-28-08  talisman: how bout them yankees?!...$$$.
But...not sold on Burnett...his era was creeping toward 5 last year.cc had his best year last year but watch him start to put the weight back on now. tex will hit .290 and 27-30 hr's for 6 yrs or so...he's solid. Mussina as an old man gave em 20 wins...so C.C. just replaces that. they are going to be better; no doubt...but it won't be easy...Dodgers might want to look at Sheets(Baton Rouge boy). if he can stay healthy.manny might end up back there.furcal really helps. wishing you a happy new year and bring on Spring Training!

oh yea...one more thing. i wonder if the yankees are going to make CC wear his hat the right way...use to be a 500 dollar fine back in the day. you even had to have the "major league bend" in the bill at all times...gonna be interesting.

  moronovich: <cu8sfan> got a point - the forum could be called <Should Kramnik NOT Retire> .

And BTW : Happy New Year everybody !

Dec-31-08  malthrope: Count me in for -- "Sneaky's Shanty" by <Sneaky>

<tpstar: I would still keep it in December but move it up to the first two weeks, thus avoiding the Christmas rush.>

I thought so too... Move it up to early in December. :)

Happy New Year! :^)

Jan-01-09  YouRang: Hey <WannaBe>, Happy New Year to you!

<Happy New Year <YouRang>, can I go ahead and post all my predictions for the upcoming 2009 tournaments??>

Well, first you have to predict the pairings. :-o

What's your prediction for the S&P or DOW at the end of 2009? Will my 401K be higher, or should I take the $53 that's left and stick it under my mattress? ;-)

  WannaBe: <YouRang> You should take that $53 dollars and give it to Madoff, a.k.a. <WannaBe>; and I'll turn that into 53 Millions in 3 years, guaranteed!!
Jan-02-09  NakoSonorense: Happy New Year, <wannabe>! I too hope that we (CA) can stay in the continental USA during 2009!
Jan-02-09  YouRang: <WannaBe: <YouRang> You should take that $53 dollars and give it to Madoff, a.k.a. <WannaBe>; and I'll turn that into 53 Millions in 3 years, guaranteed!!>

~~~~~~~
(ring ring) "Hello, this is Sen. Barney Frank, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, how may I help you?"
"Hi Senator, this is <YouRang>. Say, a fellow named <WannaBe> just offered to invest my last $53 with a guaranteed million-fold return in just 3 years. It sounds good, but I thought it might be wise to seek congressional oversight of this deal."
"Good thinking! Give me all the details."
"Well, okay. <WannaBe> is an anonymous wise-cracking internet personality. He offers no details as to HOW he can produce such a good return. He seems to identify with some fellow named Madoff. There would be no way to track him down if he failed to produce the promised return, or for that matter, if he simply disappeared with my money."
"Hmmm... could be risky, but don't worry, I'll check it out..."
~~~~~~~
(ring ring) "Hello, <WannaBe> here. What's up doc?"

"Hello Mr. WannaBe, this is Senator Barney Frank. I'm calling to grill you regarding a claim that you made to a fellow called <YouRang>. Did you really offer to invest his $53 with a GUARANTEED return of $53 MILLION in just THREE years!?"

"(gulp) Uh, sure."

"Well, then let me ask you, DOES THIS TRANSACTION NEED ANY FURTHER OVERSIGHT??!"

"I hope not -- I mean, of course not!"

"Good enough for me! Bye."

~~~~~~
(ring ring) "Hello, <YouRang> here."
"Sen Barney Frank here. I am not entirely sure why we you were suspicious of Mr. WannaBe. <I believe there has been more alarm raised about potential unsafety and unsoundness than, in fact, exists.>
Jan-09-09  YouRang: So what's your opinion on the raging issue of the day?
Should there be a playoff system for college football?
Jan-09-09
Premium Chessgames Member
  WannaBe: <YouRang> Playoffs, playoffs, playoffs, this way no one gripes about it anymore.
Totally in favor of having a playoff.
Jan-09-09  NakoSonorense: Obama is in favor of playoffs too!
Jan-09-09  chessamateur: <WannaBe> How many teams should be in the playoffs then?
Jan-10-09
Premium Chessgames Member
  WannaBe: <chessamateur> I think 8 is a good number...
Jan-10-09  YouRang: I would agree with 8 (no more than that).
It would take three rounds to decide the champion. The bowl games started on Dec 20 and the last one was Jan 8. So we do this:
Round 1 (Dec 20-21)
4 of 8 teams advance
Round 2 (Dec 31-Jan 1)
2 of 4 teams advance
Round 3 (Jan 8)
Championship game.
There are a total of 7 games in the championship playoffs. I suppose that each of the major bowls can take turns hosting the various levels of the playoffs. Non-playoff teams can continue to be invited to the other bowl games. Hows that?
