 | | WannaBe: It is too bad that the NFL have reached the decision that it did. If it is extended any longer, without any certainty, it means local parking lot workers will be out of work, (in this current economy, no less) the concession stands will be empty. The local watering hole will not be able to show the games, and the customers will probably be less. I remember an article, by espn, when the NHL lost an entire season, and how the Buffalo Sabre's neighboring pubs suffered. It is like if the MLB did not have a season, imagine how the neighborhood around Wrigley Field would suffer. And people (still) say, trickle down economy does not work... |

| Mar-13-11 | | hms123: <Wannabe> <OCF> As a former "insider" on these matters, I can tell you with absolute confidence that you wouldn't believe what goes on in big-time athletics at "elite" institutions. It's nothing compared to what goes on a big state universities, but it is still very embarrassing when it becomes public. In my opinion, the only difference is that no money changes hands (for the most part). |

 | | tpstar: <WannaBe> Congratulations! Black's opening with 1. e4 g6 2. d4 Bg7 has independent significance after 3. Nc3 c6 & 4 ... d5 which is the Gurgenidze Variation; White often does well with 4. h4 or 4. h3. But 3. Nf3 c6 4. Nc3 f6!? proved that Black was not up on theory. =) Consider the Austrian Attack with 3. Nc3 & 4. f4 = Opening Explorer as giving White a good game by dominating the center and threatening f4-f5 disrupting Black's Kingside with an easy attack. Your game reached this position:
click for larger viewWhite has a nice edge in development, although Black's Kingside is actually solid for the moment. Your best plan would be f2-f4-f5 attacking on the Kingside, so maybe Nd2 or Nh2 here. That means you want your KR on f1 and your QR on d1 (OK) or e1 (better), so 12. Rac1!? is not your best choice, especially since you soon played a2-a4 where you would want your QR on a1. I also think Qd2 would have improved before over Qe2, avoiding any pins on the e file. He got you with a Skewer but then you got him with a Pin. =) |

 | | Phony Benoni: <sneaky pete> That's what Sam Loyd called it back in 1903. But in these parts, only Our Genial Host would think of playing <1.Ke2>, allowing Black a promotion with double check. Then, after 2.Ke3, Black has no fewer than ten checks, but White mates against each of them or any other move, for that matter. |

 | | WannaBe: You know, I am really, maybe somewhat disappointed, the man I voted for (Change!) was on TV tonight, filling out the Women's NCAA tournament bracket. A few days ago, he was on TV filling out the Men's tournament bracket. Just as he did before. Nothing wrong with that, if everything in the world is cool, peaceful, calm, economy is rolling along, Dow & Jones Average just broke 50,000 the Nas just broke 10,000 (APPL with iPad6 becomes the hottest selling item since the Cabbage Patch Dolls.) and unemployment rate is a hair under 4 percent. Can you imagine, if any of the Bushes did this on national TV what the (liberal) reaction would have been? Can you even fathom, what the TV show hosts and all the stand-ups would have a field day with? But alas, we won't... (Change!?) |

Yes, the fact of the matter that drunken orgies in Japanese middle schools are NOT prohibited by law. They are prohibited by school policy, however.
This is in direct contradistinction to Canada, where drunken orgies in middle schools *are* prohibited by law, but NOT by school policy. |
