That is all I have to say about that.

WannaBe: On July 30th, Oakland A's will have a Beerfest promotion http://mlb.mlb.com/schedule/promoti...

Apparently everyone in MLB have forgotten their history... Remember dime beer night?! However, considering you have to pay 8 bucks for 12oz beer, I do not think it will get too out of hand...

Unless <Jim Bartle> shows up, wooo, watch out!

Apr-03-11  Lil Swine: Phony Benoni's puzzle answer as I believe is Bd3?
Apr-04-11
Premium Chessgames Member
Phony Benoni: <Lil Swine> Oops, I never gave that, did I? The answer is indeed <1.Ke2>, allowing Black to promote with double check. However, if he does so, White plays 2.Ke3 and mate will come next move no matter what. Try it.

After 1.Bd3+ Kd4 White doesn't have a mate in two more moves. For instance, if 2.Rf3+ (to guard the ♗d3) then 2...e5, and there's no mate on the move.

WannaBe: From ESPN, columnist Jayson Stark:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/colum...

<Are we supposed to look back in awe at the 2,574 hits, the 555 homers, the .585 career slugging percentage, the .996 OPS?

Well, we would have -- in another time, in another context. But not now.

Look at that stat line again for a moment. It's one you haven't laid eyes on a whole lot, even if you've rummaged from one end of the ESPN Baseball Encyclopedia to the other.

Just three players in history have ever assembled those numbers -- that many hits, that many homers, that high an OPS and slugging percentage.

One was Babe Ruth, who might have tested positive for too many cheeseburgers once upon a time but otherwise remains his same old iconic self.

And who were the other two? A couple of dudes named Barry Bonds and Manny Ramirez. How 'bout that?>

Who's Babe Ruth?

Apr-10-11  Benzol: Swotting is a term usually used by students which means studying up for exams or tests. I imagine there must be an equivalent term used in the US even if it is in red and on the right hand side.

WannaBe: 'Personal log', when ever I am 'confused' or 'discouraged', I often go visit the Star Trek world, and more often than not, revisit the episodes that would help me.

This is probably, or more likely, no different than someone would read a chapter in the Bible, Koran, Torah, or Harry Potter.

But, my personal favourite episode, the one that I always like to watch is 'All Good Things', and also 'A Year of Hell'...

jessicafischerqueen: <MannBee> according to the Google translator, I typed

"I want to be guanobee."

However, <falso contacto> immediately told me "don't," so it's possible that I actually typed

"My hovercraft is full of eels."

Chastened, I resolved never to use the Google translator "in reverse" again.

WannaBe: <jessicafischerqueen> Yes, I do not believe the translator is fully capable of Klingon-Vulcan-Cardassian-Korean-Canadianess yet.

But however, in the future, I do recommend the episode 'Sacrifice of Angels'. =)

WannaBe: Holy mother lode, I hit the ultimate jackpot! I was thinking back on Roberta and 'First Time I Ever Saw Your Face'. And behold, look at what I found... Here is yet, another episode of <WannaBe>'s chronology study of a song.

Peter, Paul, and Mary, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTFJ... (Grade B+) note the intro, they give credit to MacColl, and Seeger, who is related to Pete.

Now, here is Peggy, the wife of MacColl, singing the song the husband wrote: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXYP... (A-)

Further more, here is Mary and Peter, (Paul is hung up by the Aussie immigration official =) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1eI... (B)

Then later, you have Gordon Lightfoot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5X8... (C-) and Elvis McPelvis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3yf... (C-)

Not to be outdone, Cash came out with one too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdSI... (D-) and then Celine Dion joined the action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnXN... (F)

Also, Leona Lewis have a version (Who, is, she? Looks a bit like Mariah Carey) (C) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEGF... Even Lauryn Hill have a version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUnX... (F-----------)

But, to enjoy and appreciate this song, I recommend this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOFr... read the comment directly underneath the screen, it talks about Eastwood 'Play Misty For Me' and the history how Roberta made this song what it is. (AAA++++++++++)

Next week, I am doing the history of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. No lie!

May-10-11  chessmoron: There's another version from this unknown guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uX5D...
