 | | jessicafischerqueen: Fascinating...
One of yours?
Oddly enough, there are several "starbucks" knockoffs here in Daegu as well. "Starsquid" is the best.
Not kidding. I guess they are so rich they don't need to hire copyright police. |

(On a personal log, this is embarassing, it shows how stupid and illogical we are. Sure, certain items may have been damaged during shipping, or handling, but, still. Please......) |

 | | WannaBe: It will be very interesting to see how NCAA and its investigation turn out. Seeing how severe USC was punished, (Basketball one year post season ban, and football two years post season ban, wins wiped off the record books, plus loss of scholarships.) I can't even start to imagine what would the punishments would befall OSU once the full investigation and everything comes out of Columbus. I know Boise State have also come under small fire http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/... for its program too. |

 | | OhioChessFan: So we have a group of kids who sold a bit of Ohio State history. In doing so, they managed to betray the dreams of millions of people in this state who would kill to be on an Ohio State team that beat Michigan. They betrayed a school who is giving them an education worth 10's of thousands of dolloars. They betrayed the football program and all its history. They betrayed their God who gave them the genetics and skills and bodies that are the envy of so many who weren't blessed like that. They betrayed their coaches who worked to make them better players and better people. Worst of all, by far, they betrayed their teammates. All the teammates who lift weights at 5 in the morning. All the teammates who are careful about what they eat, how much they work out, balancing sports and schoolwork. All the teammates who value their legacy and wouldn't part with their mementos for all the money in the world. All the teammates who are so proud of their team's accomplishments. All the teammates who got their names in the local paper when they signed with Ohio State. All the teammates who now have to wonder if their conference championships will be vacated. All the teammates who have to go home and hear the taunts of people who are not Ohio State fans. All the teammates who will have a lifetime of tarnished memories. That's what that group of punks did. And for <what>? For TATTOOS. For the privilege of desecrating the temple of their bodies with ink. Using ink to scrawl low class, low brow, tacky pictures and words on their skin. And I am guessing it's not like they didn't already have some tattoos on their bodies. For the sake of even more self mutilation, they sold out on millions of people. It's not like they got 30 pieces of silver. These jerks got ink on their bodies. Absolutely unbelievable. |

| Jun-01-11 | | hms123: <OCF> I agree with you completely, but let's not forget the cars. I knew Gordon Gee very well when he was at Vanderbilt. My office was down the hall from his, and we used to talk regularly. I consider him to be a good friend. Nonetheless, he had a huge weak spot when it came to big-time athletics, especially football. His first big "decision" was to eliminate the AD's position and have the Athletic Department report to the Chancellor's Office (through Vice-Chancellor David Williams, who had worked for Gee at OSU). Williams stayed at Vanderbilt when Gee went back to OSU. Williams has proved to be a very good match for VU. He cares about the athletes and about running a clean program. I think he knew what he would be getting into if he returned to OSU with Gee. |
|
| Jun-01-11 | | dakgootje: Whaha, I read that as "but let's not forget about cars." as in "You raise several highly interesting points, which deserve proper attention. However, now I want to talk about cars." Which actually will be my new standard-method of entering a discussion. Except when they talk about cars. A bit of a shame that I haven't really followed the car-progress lately. However, let's not despair - they probably still have about 4 wheels, give or take 4. |
|
| Jun-01-11 | | hms123: <dak> The point is that OSU's quarterback, T. Pryor, has apparently driven/owned <9!> cars in his time at OSU thanks to a local car dealer. |
|
| Jun-01-11 | | dakgootje: I see. That's quite a lot.
I suppose everyone is extremely shocked by this nation-wide scandal for the following 6 days? Give it some time and it will blow over during the next scandal. |

 | | WannaBe: I whole-heartedly agree with what <OhioChessFan> posted, when I read what the kids did I personally felt pretty sad/disgusted. I still have my sophomore high school basketball sweatshirt, (I was only a manager/water boy on the team!) I value it, I treasure it. To think that the kids would be so willingly part with something so easily, shows me they have a lack of respect for either the institution, the accomplishments, and/or themselves. Remember, at USC, it was one basketball player, (Mayo) and one football player (Bush). I think with OSU, there are multiple players who(m) have sold/traded their memorabilias. (To me, that is their property, they can do what they want... If they want to trade their rings for an happy meal, it's their choice.) If, Pryor is to be found to have received extra benefits, I think NCAA will come down harder, because of USC. Just to serve as a second reminder to the other learning institutions. |
|
| Jun-06-11 | | hangingenprise: well <wannabe> usc just got hammered again. i wonder what tressel and his
run away program have to say now? 50 cars, numerous gratuities, skin ink
ect. how many of those victories against michigan will count now? is ohio state a.d. next in line to go? looks like a smother mate to me!
if usc program got the ax because of one player, how about 5 years and scholarships for ohio state. |

 | | WannaBe: We will have to wait until NCAA decides, plus they turned down the appeal by USC, and now, one of the assistant coach is suing NCAA, because his contract wasn't renewed. |

 | | WannaBe: This is somewhat 'ironic', for a lack of better words, I have just finished 'In The Garden of Beasts' by Erik Larsen, and that prompted me to rewatch 'Downfall' or 'Der Untergang'. Being somewhat of a World War II buff, and an unabashed pseudo-expert, I can't even to begin to imagine what it would be like to live through an era or a period of history such as that. |

 | | WannaBe: Personal log, if this peace process should go through, <Once> should be, at least, nominated for the Most Constructive category in the 2011 Caissar. End personal log. Computer, erase all recordings. |
|
| Jun-11-11 | | crawfb5: Even if it doesn't, he still should get a nomination. He will, if I can remember...wait, what was I just saying? :-) |
|
| Jun-11-11 | | hms123: WannaBe,
I think canonization would be appropriate for Once. |

 | | OhioChessFan: Yo, Rabbit, I am in desperate straits. So desperate I am coming to you for help. Last night, I signed offline because of a storm. Everything was working fine. 20 minutes later, when I tried to sign back online, my computer kept giving me an error message that my modem is blocked. I rebooted, shut down, checked the phone jack is fine, got a dial tone when I plugged in a phone into that jack. All the typical stuff I thought I should try. I use AOL, am on dialup, rarely use IE, and have only accessed IE when already on AOL and wanted a second window. I called AOL tech support, got a nice young lady from India who I couldn't understand much and went through all of her hoops. She appears to believe either:
1. I must set up the connections with IE that I've never used before...or 2. My modem is fried and must be replaced.
I am limited now to using a computer at work or the library. Can you offer me any words of wisdom about this situation? A year's supply of carrots if you can help. |
