 | | WannaBe: Regarding the previous Suck-for-Luck post, we now have official entry rules! Courtesy of (who else?) espn.com page 2. (Boy, without them, I wouldn't know <WHAT> to post!) http://espn.go.com/espn/page2/story... |

| Oct-19-11 | | Shams: <WannaBe> Are you on the West Coast? I note your interest in a Pac-12 matchup tomorrow. (That still seems weird to say.) |
Oct-19-11
 | | WannaBe: <Shams> Yes, yes, I am. =) Currently, San Mateo, San Mateo County, California.
Ex-Long Beach, California - Sioux Falls, South Dakota - Long Beach, California. |
Oct-19-11
 | | WannaBe: Heck, I know people who remember Pac-8! Before the 2 Arizona schools joined. |
| Oct-19-11 | | Shams: <WannaBe> Ok right, Silicon Valley. You're a programmer, yes? |
Oct-19-11
 | | WannaBe: School -> Konica -> C/C++/Java programmer -> bar owner -> KonicaMinolta -> Systems Administrator. |
| Oct-19-11 | | Shams: I assume there is a well-thumbed copy of _Cryptonomicon_ by your bedside. The book is like "Conan" for Sys Admins! (Also one of my favorite novels.) |
Oct-19-11
 | | WannaBe: Big negative ol' friend, the only thing well thumbed by my bedside is a copy of.... Wait, family web-site, can't say that.
No, seriously, I was a programmer for 10+ years, only a Systems Admin. for the last 2 month. But I am back with my old company. =) Still a programmer at heart. You are at Microsoft, that right? |
| Oct-19-11 | | Shams: <WannaBe> God no, that was ten years ago and I can't suffer the company or its software. I was a long-term temp worker but a black-box tester only...I played around with Perl a little but never wanted to go further. I am just old enough to remember "programming" my old C-64; of course, this just meant we bought books with text-only BASIC scripts we would manually enter. Anyway, by 2003 it was clear that the relationship wasn't going anywhere, so I left for Japan. It seemed the logical thing at the time. You should really read the novel, it's fantastic. |

 | | WannaBe: Will add to my Amazon's wish list, along with the other 200 or so books on that list. Okay, maybe only 30 or so other books... =) |
Oct-20-11
 | | WannaBe: Only in SF, no shoes, no shirt, full service!
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lan... Did you know, that nudity is legal in Bay Area city? |
| Oct-20-11 | | NakoSonorense: <WannaBe> Have you encountered many nudists in your wanderings through the city? As accepting and open minded as I am, I would totally flip the first time I saw one walking on the street. |
Oct-20-11
 | | WannaBe: I don't go into SF, I only hang around the out skirts of town. No pun intended. |
| Oct-20-11 | | technical draw: There can be nothing more disgusting than seeing a bunch of old, naked men walking around. Which will give visual proof to that army saying "I want all you swinging ..... to form a line." |
| Oct-20-11 | | Deus Ex Alekhina: There was a student at Berkely who went to his classes completely naked for a long time. |
Oct-20-11
 | | WannaBe: Probably until winter came and then the rain, and the wind.... =) |
| Oct-20-11 | | technical draw: Speaking of winter. I was hitch hiking through northern California in 1968. Night time caught me without a ride so I tried sleeping on a bench but it was so cold I couldn't sleep. So I went to the police department nearby and asked them if I could sleep in one their cells (true!). They said I couldn't use the cell but I could sleep on a bench in the courthouse next door. Which I did but I slept restlessly since I was afraid of being arrested. I can't remember the town. |
Oct-20-11
 | | WannaBe: I didn't feel a thing! http://news.yahoo.com/small-earthqu... No smarty-alecky comments from you! Yeah, you know who you are! :-) |
| Oct-20-11 | | technical draw: Nothing like a little earthquake to put the fear in God in the hippies. Next event thunder and lightning. |
Oct-20-11
 | | WannaBe: Just give me some advance warning on the brimstone part. |
| Oct-20-11 | | technical draw: Or should I say wannabe hippies? I was one of the original hippies and it was peace and love and pot, Rolling Stones and The Beatles. Totally non-violent. Baby boomer hippies =cool
Occupy hippies=sad second act. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <News Item: Animals running free in Ohio. > They ended up shooting most of them. Sad story. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <Night time caught me without a ride so I tried sleeping on a bench but it was so cold I couldn't sleep. > I had a friend in college who didn't understand that senior women simply didn't date freshmen. He about drove her crazy asking her out. She finally said yes, but with an ulterior motive. They went to a movie, and then afterwards she said she wanted to go to a little garden area on campus. Concrete benches, really pretty. She then said she wanted to go to her nearby dorm to get a sweater since it was getting cold. Of course, she never came back. She couldn't have known how bad she got over on my friend. He <fell asleep> on the concrete bench and woke up a couple hours later, half frozen, and aching in pain. |
