Sometimes you can't even let the guy play toward the end of close games. Howard went 3-12 last night. That means the defender will just grab him every time he has the advantage for an easy shot. Way back in the mists of time when the Warriors won the title in 1975, they had two centers of about equal ability (or lack of ability), Clifford Ray and George Johnson. They were zeroes offensively but good defensively, plus they could foul the opponent's center or big forward 12 times each night. Which they often did, sending Kareem, Lanier and Haywood to the line over and over. They would have done it to Cowens as well, but he was too quick and took outside shots in any case.
