Diademas: <<Dr Winston OBoogie: >Not true really. If we lose we'll get Brazil in the QF> No, that is if you win. If you lose to Belgium and win against the winner of group H in the round of 16, you will meet the winner of Sweden - Switzerland in the QF.
Jun-27-18  Keyser Soze: Yes..the guy can't count 1+1..

WannaBe: Poland is the second most loved (as selected by prediction players) to <NOT> advance; 15 prediction players picked them. First, of course was Alemania/Germany.

The two players that picked Japan? <technical draw> & <offramp>.

Next is Sweden, with 5

Third is Croatia, with 8

Jun-28-18  morfishine: Once the group stage is complete, do we pick the rest of the games all the way through?

  WannaBe: <morfishine> Yes!

If you look at my profile, in the example, I predicted Tunesia [sic] would win it all.

Jun-28-18  Dr Winston OBoogie: Wannabe. I'm just letting y'all know that when <Nakosorense> (the other Spanish fella?) had a WC prediction contest in 2014 I didn't even join until <after> the group games and I got 13 out of 15 right, I got alllllllll the 2nd round and QF games right. I came above - wait for it - kkderek and Sugardom LOL.

Anyways. So far so good. England never make things easy but I still know we'll lose. *fingers crossed*. All my predictions thus far have been wrong so let me just say this... England will win the 2018 World Cup :)

Round of 16: Portugal, France, Brazil, Belgium, Spain, Croatia, Sweden, England

Q-Finals: France, Brazil, Spain, England

S-Finals: France, Spain

Was this the right format?

  Diademas: Well second apparently...
Jun-28-18  Golden Executive: <12 -- <Count Wedgemore>, <Golden Executive>, <paavoh>, <TheAlchemist>, <NakoSonorense>, <juan31>>

I missed Japan, Sweden and Switzerland. So I should have 13 points

Jun-28-18  Keyser Soze: Here we go

Q-finals: France, Brazil, Spain, Sweden

Semi-Finals: Brazil, Spain

Diademas: I'm afraid mine 11 is painfully correct...😒
Jun-28-18  soldal:

<chessmoron> (page 642) seems to have been overlooked. He, too, has 14.

Jun-28-18  Golden Executive: Also <chessmoron> 14 points

<Count Wedgemore>, <paavoh> and <TheAlchemist> 13 points

<zborris8> and <Dr Winston OBoogie> 12 points

WannaBe: Let me double check the spreadsheet and also <chessmoron>'s selections...

I probably entered the wrong cell number in the formula bar.

=))

Jun-28-18  morfishine: <wannabe> FWIW: I count 14 correct picks from Group stage:

Group A: Russia, Uruguay
Group B: Portugal, Spain
Group C: France, Denmark
Group D: Argentina, Croatia
Group E: Brazil, Switzerland
Group F: Sweden
Group G: Belgium, England
Group H: Colombia

WannaBe: I found the prediction that I missed:

<chessmoron: Group A: Uruguay, Russia Group B: Spain, Portugal
Group C: France, Denmark
Group D: Argentina, Croatia
Group E: Brazil, Switzerland
Group F: Germany, Mexico
Group G: Belgium, Tunisia
Group H: Colombia, Japan>

Am now checking my spreadsheet for formula (addition) error...

Jun-28-18
Premium Chessgames Member
WannaBe: I found the error, I had wrong cell number, 31 Serbia, instead of cell number 32 Switzerland in the formula bar.

14 -- <chessmoron>, <Keyser Soze>, <Morfishine>

13 -- <Valiant>, <technical draw>, <TheAlchemist>, <paavoh>, <Golden Executive>, <Count Wedgemore>

12 -- <juan31>, <NakoSonorense>, <Winston O Boogie>, <zborris8>

11 -- <offramp>, <optimal play>, <Penguincw>, <Diademas>

10 -- <sodal>

Jun-28-18  morfishine: BTW: Thanks <Golden Executive> for pointing this out! A great World Cup, don't you think?

I watched 34 consecutive games, drinking 14 cases of beer in the process, so don't ask for recaps LOL

Jun-28-18  thegoodanarchist: I hope Belgium win it all.

But I think the Frenchies will take it this year. I don't want them to, but they look like the best so far.

I will also be happy if Brazil win. They sort of got cheated at home in 2014.

Not really cheated, they just got an unlucky break (literally) when Neymar Jr. got his back broken from a cheap hit, and had to withdraw. After that, they didn't have a chance against Germany.

So this year, I hope Neymar stays healthy and either Brazil or Belgium take home the cup.

Jun-28-18  paavoh: Okay, some shoo-ins like GER or POL were not that at all. Let's see if I can improve with:

Round of 16: Portugal, France, Brazil, Belgium, Spain, Croatia, Sweden, England

Quarterfinals: France, Brazil, Spain, England

Semifinals: Brazil, Spain

Final: Brazil

... wins it all!!!

Good luck everyone!
