| Mar-01-06 | | Robin01: <I think even if we do play 47...Rd6+ followed by 48. Qxd6 Bxd6 49. Kxd6, I believe we can get a stalemate.> We lose if the pieces come off. We cannot trade off our rook and bishop for their queen. |
| Mar-01-06 | | Robin01: I'll have to look at this some more later this evening as I am way too busy at work today. |
| Mar-01-06 | | sitzkrieg: I vote for Rd7check, based on the lines given above. I dont like Rc7 and Ba7 is not a possebility. |
| Mar-01-06 | | sitzkrieg: possebilety/ how do i spell it? |
| Mar-01-06 | | sitzkrieg: Btw in the line with the checks (after Rd7), when we drive the king to f5, the king cant do g6 because of Rf6 check and Qxf6, gxf6.. Then either Kxf6, wich is an easy draw, or a last white try with Kxh6. This looks problematic, but in the lines I checked we can always capture the a pawn, and with help of the bishop the king is back in time to prevent whites pawns from queening. So this all looks sufficient.
BUT, if the king moves to g1 and hides BEHIND its pawns, it can lead them forward and probably break throug. So Rd7 is as i see it also not enough for a draw.
Also there was the earlier mentioned opportunity to play Kh4 (with g4 as a possabilety) but then we capture the a pawn. The problem with 44. Rc7 is imo Qa8. We are totally tied, and the king will march to g6. We can only move our rook around on the 7th rank, i think there are many ways to win for white then, one is to give up their queen for rook in the centre, and then grab our pawns. So I think we unfortunatly still have a lost position after all. with the checks we can drive away their king for some time but sooner or later it will show up. In the other line i expect it to be a shorter affair. As I see it we have three options.
Resigning
Rc7
Rd7
I go for the latter, since then we have some chances of muddying the water, if thats the correct expression. |

 | | WannaBe: Looks like I'll be spending most of my today and tomorrow in meeting with software engineers. So won't be looking at this until I get home. |
| Mar-01-06 | | sitzkrieg: Okay. Good luck. Any vote of you for if you are not back in time? |
| Mar-01-06 | | RonB52734: I vote for Rd7+. |

 | | TheAlchemist: <WannaBe> You finally had your big break today, congratulations! Kupreichik vs Rashkovsky, 1986

| Mar-01-06 | | RonB52734: <sitzkrieg> <BUT, if the king moves to g1 and hides BEHIND its pawns, it can lead them forward and probably break through>
44...Rd7+ 45.Ke2 Re7+ 46.Kf1 Rf7+ 47.Kg1 Ba7+. Now, if (a) 48.Kh1 Rf1+ 49.Kh2 Bb7+ 50.g3 Rb1 and I think we're ok, or (b) 48.Kh2 Bb8+ and this either transposes into the other line, or 49.g3 Rf2+ 50.K_1 Bxg3 winning a pawn, and I think we are ok here too. Now, mind you, I haven't looked at lines where the White King goes to g4 and h5 instead of f1 and g1, but I think in those lines, they are actually worse off because we can continue the Rook checks thanks to our Bishop being where it is. Don't lose hope, my hearties. There's life in the Black pieces yet!! |
| Mar-01-06 | | RonB52734: I should point out that I have to get up very early tomorrow morning and drive to the other end of the state (to give a talk about Internet access to court records) and so I'd appreciate it very much if we could have a definitive vote tonight before I go to bed. To me, it is quite clear that Rd7+ is our move. |
| Mar-01-06 | | sitzkrieg: I like/vote Rd7 too.
| Mar-01-06 | | sitzkrieg: And i agree that lines with King to g4 or h5 are relatively good for us.
I have no board at hand, but <9.g3 Rf2+ 50.K_1 Bxg3> sounds good i probably missed that tho i looked at Ba7check. |
| Mar-01-06 | | Robin01: <44...Rd7+ 45.Ke2 Re7+ 46.Kf1 Rf7+ 47.Kg1 Ba7+> Your line looks good right now. So I vote for 44...Rd7+. |
| Mar-01-06 | | Robin01: Maybe they will get tired of chasing us around and offer a draw! |
| Mar-01-06 | | RonB52734: <sitzkrieg> possibility. Sorry; I have been called "the spelling police" before. I come from a long line of English teachers. |
| Mar-01-06 | | RonB52734: <Robin> I still have not seen anything but a draw here, with correct play. |
| Mar-01-06 | | sitzkrieg: Seriously, thanks for helping me out with my spelling. I dont write a lot of English, so it gets worse, and it is always good to be corrected:) |
| Mar-01-06 | | sitzkrieg: <Cogano and Wannabe> still have to vote. From what i understood Wannabe wont be posting for a day? |
| Mar-01-06 | | RonB52734: <sitzkrieg> I thought there was a chance <WannaBe> might post something this evening. As I write, it is only 4:50 p.m. where he lives. He may not be home from work yet. |
| Mar-01-06 | | sitzkrieg: OK. I am off, but my vote is clear. Have a good journey tomorrow. |
| Mar-01-06 | | Robin01: <I still have not seen anything but a draw here, with correct play.> So far, so good! Maybe they will get tired of moving and offer us a draw. |
Mar-01-06
 | | WannaBe: Well, if you have 3 votes... :-), if not, check 'em! Rd7+ Will also be in meeting all day tomorrow, meeting might run long, because they are flying out Friday morning and ALL open issues will be discussed/debated. So could be a very very long day for me tomorrow. |

 | | WannaBe: <TheAlchemist> Actually my first 'fame' was: Rohde vs Seirawan, 1988 and Michael Rohde :-) |
| Mar-01-06 | | Robin01: <RonB52734> I just saw a weather map for tomorrow, and it looks like PA is covered in a mix of rain, ice and snow, so be careful driving out there. |
