WannaBe: <stone free or die> Truman, and not mention G. Ford that didn't even win a presidential election. Like K. Harris that didn't go through a nomination process. And was just thrown out there.

WannaBe: Speaking of ice soccer, this is my annual post on the Presidents' Trophy (which will be renamed Trump Trophy in 2027. 🤣) This is a trophy awarded the NHL team with the most points, or in a way, best record... The last time a 'best' team went on to win the Stanley Cup? ...

May-22-06  Zebra: <suenteus po 147> Great, thanks.
May-23-06  Open Defence: <Wannabe> im my humble opinion the Four Knights Defence and Four Knights variation of the Scotch is a very underestimated opening.... I don't think the Belgrade Gambit is sound though, however you are very likely to encounter it at club level if you play the Black side of the Four Knights...
May-23-06  Swapmeet: <Wannabe> That Nb5 is called the Blumenfeld Attack, a very interesting and complicated line that I play religiously as white. Unfortunately I haven't seen much written about it (Lane doesn't even MENTION it!), it's kind of like that second cousin no one likes to talk about. I've done alot of personal analysis, for what its worth, if you'd like to go over it on FICS some time.
May-23-06  Zebra: <Swapmeet: Lane doesn't even MENTION it!> Which Lane book is this?

<themadhair: Ever tried the Göring?> I am also interested in the Göring and Scotch Gambits. Are these lines included in the book you are reading?

May-23-06  themadhair: <Zebra>MCO style piece (http://www.rci.rutgers.edu/~goeller...)

Played a mini tournament in it at gameknot here (http://gameknot.com/mt.pl?id=11552) (needs a gknot account) and quite liked it. Phenomenal blitz weapon. Although if you are desparate for a win as white and your opponent knows what they are doing it can be a bit tame though. Did I mention the blitz potential?

May-23-06  Zebra: <themadhair> Thanks for the links, plenty for me to look at there. Great idea playing mini-tournaments to explore a particular opening. By the way I also play on GK - maybe see you there some time.
May-23-06  Swapmeet: <Zebra> The Lane book is "The Scotch Game Explained". I only mentioned it because I think <Open Defence> said she was using the same book.
May-23-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <WannaBe> I see that the USA national football team is playing against Morocco today! If I'm not mistaken, the match should start at 4:00 PM, Californian time.

Perhaps you should look up if this match is on television!

You can always follow the match on Internet here:

WannaBe: <EmperorAtahualpa: <WannaBe> I see that USA national football team is...>

Yeah, I think our QB is gonna throw for 500 yards against them!! And our running-back is gonna rush for 300 yards and 5 touchdowns!!!

WannaBe: On a serious note, team USA for preparation purposes, invited teams (that didn't qualify for the Cup, but is still ranked high by FIFA) to US for some friendlies.
May-24-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <WannaBe> Did you get to see the USA-Morocco match? You guys lost 0-1!

Also Reyna got injured..this is not looking good..

WannaBe: <EmperorAtahualpa> No, I did not get to see it, actually I haven't even read the morning paper yet.
May-24-06  Open Defence: <Swapmeet> yes Lane's book that I was referring to was Winning with the Scotch .. it seems a little incomplete and some of the lines are not exactly "winning"...but then again nothing guarantees you of a win unless your opponent walks into an inferior position and you can execute the win.

WannaBe: <Robin01> Check back tomorrow morning. =)
May-24-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <WannaBe> Luckily, Claudio Reyna's hamstring injury is not very serious. They were fearing he would be out for many weeks, so that he wouldn't be able to participate in the World Cup. But now it looks like he will be back in time!

Here's my source: http://www.vi.nl/vi/show/id=62802/c...

It's in Dutch, so you can use Babelfish to see if I'm lying to you or not. :)

How to read this...

First, is the move played, and then the first number in the bracket is the computer's evaluation. Followed by recommended moves and the evaluation if that line's played.

35. Kf2 <35. Ke4 Ke7 > does not help much.

37. fxg5 <37...hxg5 38. Kg3 > black can already relax.

May-25-06  brankat: <WannaBe> In a reasonably searious tournament, with solid oppostion, the openings like: the Scotch, the Evans, the K-gambit, etc, is something You want avoid like plague. Btw, the same goes for the Mora! Try to choose something more solid, without looking for any kind of "shortcuts".
May-25-06  EmperorAtahualpa: <WannaBe> Yikes, what happened to your chessbucks? :)
May-25-06  Swapmeet: <brankat> Not bad advice in general, but would you really lump the Scotch in with the Evans, Morra, KG? Don't forget Wannabe is playing in the U1200.

  WannaBe: <EmperorAtahualpa: Yikes, what happened...> I think <refutor> took it all. :-)

<brankat> I chose the Scotch for white is to avoid the multiple variations of the Ruy. Plus I haven't used the Ruy in a long time. For some reason, people tend to play French and Sicilian against me.

And yeah, I'm playing in the super-patzer section. :-)

May-25-06  Open Defence: I think the Scotch is a good choice even against more solid opposition... there are not many opportunities for Black to play the kind of opening trappy lines that White has... though I dislike trappy play... though I would suggest a more non committal opening like 1♘f3 if you are sound in the opening principles and try to stay away from the main lines... too many guys come to the board memorizing variations and they might out "book" you in the main lines.....
May-25-06  Robin01: <WannaBe> Thanks for analyzing that game for us.
