<Jer 20:10-13

Jeremiah said:

"I hear the whisperings of many:
'Terror on every side!
Denounce!
Let us denounce him!'
All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

Perhaps he'll be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.

In their failure, they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you, I have entrusted my cause.

Sing to the LORD,
praise the LORD,
for he has rescued the life of the poor
from the power of the wicked!">

<1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.>

<The Promise of the Lord's Coming

The Second Letter of Peter

Chapter 3

1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you

2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts

4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!?

5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.

7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.

11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness,

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire?

13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Final Exhortation and Doxology

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16 speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17 You therefore beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Amen.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.>
Aug-06-08  zsoydd: .
Hi <Hugin>, <Boomie> and team,
any (experienced!) cc player over 2500 is able to keep the White opening advantage until the late middlegame against arbitrary opponents (even such a strong team). I have demonstrated this in my 2004 game against the cw team, and I've been very much weaker at that time.
With Black it will be of course hard for the team. Even a loss can happen.
When we have the choice, we should better keep to the main lines of theory as they usually show the safest path to equality. We can be glad if we get an equal game at all.
best regards,
zsoyd
Maybe a hint, where to look for ccGM Nickel's weaknesses.
Aug-11-08  Duck McCluck: The electric eel, Electrophorus electricus, is a species of fish. It is capable of generating powerful electric shocks, which it uses for both hunting and self-defense. It is an apex predator in its South American range. Despite its name it is not an eel at all but rather a knifefish. GMAN is going to eat paintchips after we pull out another novelty win! I have began to read your forum but there are so many posts about the upcoming GMAN and I hope others are willing to invest 15-20 minutes and contribute to a coherent opening strategy. I like the french defense since GMAN has been waiting so long and growing impatient that he will blunder by not sticking to the 20 book moves required to maintain the initiative.
Aug-12-08  Ceri: Hi, all.
If zsoyd is right and we get to:
1. e4 c5 2. Bb5+, then that is the start of the Kasparov / World game.
The 10... Qe6 line in that game is now known to be a theoretical draw in most lines - several of the World Team played this variation in several games, all of which were drawn.
However, IM Regan had a d5 line for Black which I thought was worth exploring and started doing some years ago:
Kasparov vs The World, 1999
I am not certain whether or not it should be 15... d5, but that is where we should start looking if we see 2. Bb5+. In the actual game, I preferred 18... e6 to the played move f5.
Generally, my experience of almost all of these "World Team" games has been that the WT was unhappy about its position at some stage during the opening, before improving through the finding of resources or by sub-optimal play be the opponent. This is where we need to improve, IMO.
Cheers,
Ceri
I am curious what impact Fritz's Powerbook and Rybka's Opening Book will have on the GMAN game. It really is a new concept in preparation. Although designed for engine versus engine play, it uses statistics in a different way than has been done in the past. The outcome of hundreds and hundreds of engine versus engine games are distilled to determine choice.
Ideas from the Rybka 3 Opening Book
Not bad.
http://www.rybkachess.com/index.php...
Aug-12-08  zsoydd: .
Hi Ken,
in the advertisment for the new rybka opening books they mention a refutation of the 10.e5 attack in the poisoned pawn line.
I have analyzed this line in 2003 (with Shredder 8 and Fritz 8) to the very end. Unfortunataly I got no occasion to play it until now. But I see that in the depth of the chess oceans the first players are doing well with this move.
Some pages ago Kurt has already mentioned this refutation I'm talking about, and which I've named (for myself) Antitoxine line:
10.e5(?!) h6 11.Bh4 dxe5 12.fxe5 Nd5!
look here: chancho chessforum
A few of the other so called novelties are known 'in certain circles' for at least 5 years.
Btw. - with their assesment "Sveshnikov: black close to equality?" they're wrong. I could bet that no one would repeat Sveshnikov after having fought one of my main lines.
I'm currently working on the theory of some lines with high-ply Rybka232 eval of 0,30 or more, where the Rybka favoured side is going to lose. Maybe this knowledge will be of some value in future.
With new hard- and software I'll be able to deepen my old analysis of the Benoni and the Gruenfeld, in the hope to find a final refutation. According to my chess theory they're incorrect.
best regards,
zsoyd
Aug-13-08  kb2ct: <zsoydd:>
These ideas are in flux and it would be dangerous to adopt to adopt almost any of them in CC. It is important however to be aware of them.
Adams and Berliner didn't quite make it. (If I have understood correctly, I haven't read any of their original texts). Have you planned to publish <your chess theory> someday?
Aug-13-08  truefriends: We must expect GMAN to use the Rybka3 openingbook.
So maybe it is an idea to create an 'engine openingbook'-forum. I think all(!) members of the team must have the chance to see what kind of power some of the strongest openingbooks have to offer before they can make their vote on the openingmoves...
Just let someone with the Rybka3 book (or other strong openingbooks) display what the book thinks is best on the next ply...
Aug-13-08  kb2ct: <truefriends:>
Zsoydd's database is better than Rybka's. We need to be able to search it the same way. Zsoydd has mined it some, but not for lines GMAN is likely to play.
Aug-13-08  Boomie: <DPLeo: I wonder if he has any improvements in the King's Indian.>
I think the Team would love to play a KID. We've already played a QID so the early e6 is out. Some will want a Benoni but I find it too sterotyped and it hasn't done well lately. The KID is just fun chess.
<Ceri: 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. Bb5+>
This seems very unlikely to me. GMAN prefers d4 openings. Multiply the odds of 1.e4, about 10% in the OE, by the odds 3.Bb5+. I'd guess the chances are about 2% at best. Following the OE out a few likely moves show that black has had the edge.
GMAN will reasonably think that his best result in this game will be a draw. He will play an opening that give white the least chance of losing. This assumes that he cares about the result. Perhaps he is more interested in a certain opening as in our first game with him. I hope that we let him try out some new idea. I still think our Qb3 against GMT was rude as we didn't let him try something out in his Dutch.
Aug-14-08  zsoydd: ..
Hi <Boomie>,
in all his recent cc games with White ccGM Nickel has opened with 1.e4.
A typical example is
Nickel - Coleman
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.Bb5+ Bd7 4.Bxd7+ Qxd7 5.O-O Nf6 6.e5 dxe5 7.Nxe5 Qc7 8.Qe2 Nc6 9.Nxc6 Qxc6 10.Na3 e6 11.b3 Be7 12.Bb2 O-O 13.Nc4 Nd7 14.a4 Bf6 15.Bxf6 Nxf6 16.Rae1 Rad8 17.f4 Nd5 18.Rf3 Ne7 19.d3 Qd7 20.Rf2 Qd5 21.Rf3 Qd4+
Due to his low winning quota with White he might be inclined to try 1.d4 again (which imho is objectively better).
Cheers,
zsoyd
I am talking about an openingbook and not a database. And it's from Jeroen Noomen and not Rybka's. I find it hard to believe that <zsoydd> can do better than someone who is a leading expert who makes openingbooks for a living ;-)
