 | | chessgames.com: That's very kind of you Mr. Fiske, here's the link: Gift Membership Page As WannaBe said, do be sure to spell the name right. The software offers a link so you can check out their profile page to make 100% sure you've got the right user. |

| Jun-06-17 | | WinKing: Hi Daniel I sent you an e-mail. |

| Jun-06-17 | | Tiggler: <That being said we still have lots of room for fun, including chess variants (Chess 960, Lasker Chess, etc.)> Do you have a forum for chess variants? Deviants like me can contribute some doozies. Does this one have a name? Convert chess into an incomplete information game by only showing the move before last of each player. An arbiter (can be software) has to be available to announce illegal moves and take them back (without showing the other side what they were!). The details are easy to fill in. White's first move advantage can be annulled by announcing immediately only that move. After that, play proceeds as normal except that the moves only appear openly on the board when each player presses the clock after his next move. No present day engine can play this game! No present day human either! |

|
| Jun-06-17 | | Tiggler: <chessgames.com: Chess variants (000)> Thank you <CG>! But the last post there is 2013. Let's go there and wake that topic up! |
|
| Jun-06-17 | | zanzibar: Oh, Odds-games and Fischer-random really belong in separate toy bins. |

 | | WannaBe: They are in the Z (000) category. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Big Pawn: <______> Why do you litter the <admin> page with your personal flame war drama? Can't you keep this tripe on <rogoff>?> I couldn't agree more, and in the spirit of your comment, I will now delete both posts. |
|
| Jun-07-17 | | Big Pawn: <chessgames.com>, fantastic. What happens in <rogoff> should stay in <rogoff>. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Odds-games and Fischer-random really belong in separate toy bins.> I suppose we could have 001 for knight-odds, 002 for pawn-and-move odds, 003 for Kriegspiel, etc. But seeing that nobody has commented in four years, maybe that would be overkill. Oh but there is an exception: we do have a separate forum just for chess960: Fischerandom Chess Generator. |
|
| Jun-07-17 | | zanzibar: Yeah, <chessgames>, and I'd recommend deleting your own deletion comment - else it might be construed as a weed endorsement. Speaking of which - you have access to IP numbers of users. I've seen
official approbation of multiple user accounts - but I assume that only applies to legitimate uses - a la JFQ. What about Aunt Jemima, Mrs. Buttersworth, MrSmith, and the like? Just noxious, abusive, kudzu - flooding the <CG> plains, afaic. Oh, and for consistency, after reading, please delete this post as well. |

| Jun-07-17 | | WinKing: Website extremely slow 20:33 hrs.(8:33pm EDT) |

| Jun-07-17 | | WinKing: Something is draining the juice from this site. Is it because of Stockfish? |
|
Jun-09-17
 | | OhioChessFan: FWIW, the site has been really slow to load for the last 2 days on my mobile. |
|
Jun-09-17
 | | chessgames.com: <Server Load> I really am sorry: know that we're (forever) looking into server efficiency issues, but I can assure you Stockfish has nothing to do with it — it's a totally different server. We did discover a denial of service attack a few days ago that we at least temporarily thwarted but that can't account for all of the delays. <Posting Violations> About who may or may not be a troll, liar, racist, terrorist, anti-American, drug user, fan of Nickelback, etc. — this is NOT the place to hash out such accusations. Some of you prepared very well documented accusations to post here. That material would be fine to email us, but this is not an open forum to discuss which users are subject to infractions. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Speaking of which - you have access to IP numbers of users. I've seen official approbation of multiple user accounts - but I assume that only applies to legitimate uses - a la JFQ. What about Aunt Jemima, Mrs. Buttersworth, MrSmith, and the like? Just noxious, abusive, kudzu - flooding the <CG> plains, afaic.> Our rule about multiple accounts is: you can do it provided that you are not doing it for a "bad" purpose. Bad purposes may include: • Insulting other members.
• Cheating on the ChessBookie! game, Santa Claus giveaway, etc.
• Creating an illusion of a dialogue amongst your sockpuppets (for whatever reason).
• Creating an alternate account to use while your main one is on probation.
• Spamming.
(and too many other motives to list here).
In my observation many if not most sockpuppets are somebody's notion of a little running gag, like User: N0B0DY. I don't always find their posts hilarious, but I have no problem with that account. If you don't find it funny, just ignore him/her. To those that feel motivated to register sockpuppets may I suggest first that you reconsider if it's really necessary: if it helps you organize your use of Chessgames, if other people will find it useful or humorous, etc. Given that, please don't invent a new email address to go with your new account. If you really are up to no harm, you shouldn't worry about the admins knowing who you are. We have kept such information confidential in all our history. Members who attempt to cover their digital tracks from the admins are tacitly admitting wrongdoing. |

 | | Chessical: Can we have an indication in the Biographers' Bistro of when there are Collections to be voted for? Otherwise, there is no prompt to review submitted Collections. |
|

 | | Tabanus: <CG> Badly documented I'd say, if you look further down that page. Bad jokes, rather. |
|
| Jun-10-17 | | zanzibar: <<chessical> Can we have an indication in the Biographers' Bistro of when there are Collections to be voted for? Otherwise, there is no prompt to review submitted Collections.> Seems like a very valid point.
Also, is there any reason not to allow the general public to view what collections are currently nominated. (They'd still be excluded from voting on the collections, but shouldn't anyone be able to at least follow the process?) |
|
Jun-10-17
 | | chessgames.com: <Seems like a very valid point.> Agreed; I suppose I imagined that there would always be a constant influx of new things to vote on but things have slowed down to a trickle now. <Also, is there any reason not to allow the general public to view what collections are currently nominated.> I was not aware that they weren't! An oversight; I'll tend to it. |

| Jun-11-17 | | sonia91: <CG.com> I think you should at least upload the games from the <Asian> Continental Championships (open and women's) even if you didn't create a forum for this event, which is the second strongest continental championship in the world (after the European of course), though you did in previous years: Tournament Index search: "asian". This event qualified 5 players for the <World Cup>. This year Wei Yi (top seed), Wang Hao, Bu Xiangzhi, Kasmidzhanov (all 2700+ or former 2700+ players) were playing. Wang Hao did win.
The <games> are available from the chess-results.com page: http://chess-results.com/tnr279405.... Another continental championship is currently underway: the American Continental Championship in Medellin, Colombia: http://chess-results.com/tnr286140.... This event qualifies 4 players for the World Cup. This is also the continental championship for which US players are eligible to play. |

| Jun-11-17 | | WinKing: <chessgames> please take a look at the 'Spring Leg Standings' in the ChessBookie game. I don't know if a 'glitch' has developed or what but some of the player members are listed twice. #53 <Ilkka Salonen> & #110 <Pru> are listed twice - thanks. |
|
Jun-11-17
 | | chessgames.com: <WinKing> How bizarre, I'll look into it when able. I don't believe anybody's score is incorrect; just the presentation. <sonia91> Our apologies, that was an oversight with Norway going on and all—we'll get those shortly. |
|
Jun-11-17
 | | chessgames.com: <WinKing> I don't see the error. You are saying their names appeared twice in the list, correct? (I'm sure you know it's entirely possible to have the same ranking, due to ties.) Anyhow, it's not doing that now; if it does again bring it to my attention again. Thanks. |
